Navy top and black leggings...yes or no?

Have been trying to find a top to wear with leggings for my works do next week. Ordered a lovely kimono style top earlier this week which looked decidedly black (with a large red/white oriental pattern on it) on the internet.

It has just come and it is navy Sad but it is very flattering and lovely...so is it ok to wear navy and black and if not, do you think anyone would notice if I did Wink

Brown with black is a no?? I would only ever wear my brown boots (see above link) with thick black tights or leggings Blush

Well, or jeans...

stinkingbishop · 23/11/2011 22:33

All sorts of rules purple, and I hope you never wear brown in town ;) Red and purple is another apparent no no but I think it looks fab.

Ignore them all. If something's pretty, embrace!

It's a lovely top and I would definitely wear black leggings with it!

I just came on here to ask the same question - in my case I have a lovely navy dress and trying to decide whether to wear black tights and shoes.

So thanks for doing the hard work and starting the thread!

The problem is the shoes... My only decent shoes are black and I don't want to have to buy more just to go with this outfit. I think navy tights and black shoes would look odd, and coloured tights with a navy dress and black shoes would look bizarre.

I think your top looks black on the pics too, btw.

purplepidjin · 23/11/2011 23:02

Default colour for socks is black. Black socks and brown shoes = fine. Brown socks and black shoes = bleurgh. So, I think the same rules apply, Mos?!

MosEisley · 23/11/2011 23:06

Arrgh purple now I'm confused [dozy tonight]. Can I wear navy dress, black tights, black shoes?
None of my outfit is brown!

OP, you love the top, and confidence in your appearance is so important, so just go for it.

You will look gorgeous.

startail · 23/11/2011 23:50

The top is lovely, black leggings would be fine.
Navy is impossible to match.
DH has a beautiful, and useless, dark navvy suit jacket because he trashed the trousers. I can't find any that vaguely match.

Mos, I would say yes because to me black for stuff like that is neutral.

Today I am wearing a grey knit dress with black tights. I'm wavering between purple courts and brown lace up knee high boots when I finally leave the house...

ceebeegeebies · 24/11/2011 16:25

Well, no-one has ever called me 'parisian' and 'chic' before Wink

Having looked at the top again in daylight today, it is clearly blue and bordering on not really being navy so it does look quite different to black so I am going to go for it Smile

Just need to work out what necklace/earrings to wear (no need for bracelets as the sleeves are so long Grin) - going out is so much work isn't it??

I used to never ever wear black and navy but Holly willoughby said ( on this morning) that it is French therefore chic!! I do think navy trousers and black top wouldn't work but that top and black tights and shoes will be fine.

Top is lovely btw but please do not go tellin the whole Internet about peacocks! Is my fashion secret! I buy j brand jeans, expensive boots but have many ops from peacocks. And pearl Lowe stuff o die for.
