I think that the Mary Porters range

at House of Fraser is really vile. I went to check out clothes for 'real women over 35' and the first dress I touched was 50% polyester 50% Acrylic or some other man made sweaty fibre. I was honestly speechless.

Sorry it should be Portas I believe.

That's awful. It makes the models arse look massive on the back view. Oh dear.

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/11/2011 17:41

I have the skinny leather trousers and they're fab.

carabos · 22/11/2011 17:46

God lubey if you think that's a massive arse...

candytuft63 · 22/11/2011 17:50

The Antonio dress is nice, but £120 ? in the sale ?

I like the animal print shift dress Closs, is that the one that's polyester vile stuff? What I don't like, are the prices!! I think she's way over the top - I wouldn't have said that was worth 150 quid even if it's silk (is it?). And I defo don't like her shirts - what's with the breast pockets? No, no, no, Mary!

candytuft63 · 22/11/2011 18:01

Its the same old -people like Mary - tall, slim and loaded designing for themselves, not real people like me. Short, tubby and old. Oh, and poor.Sad

grumplestilskin · 22/11/2011 18:07

anyone else think that most of the reviews on that green dress (that does look nice, but as a cheap throw away 1 season piece, not for that price!), read as a little........ ummmmmm......fake? I sometimes right positive reviews for dresses I really love but the positive reviews on there sounded a bit more....... selley... than reviews where people just love a dress on themselves IYKWIM

JamieComeHome · 22/11/2011 18:08

I went off her after an interview in the Guardian. She said something pretty horrible about not wanting old biddies in her shop.

As candytuft says, it's aimed at people with a figure like hers, which is not all that representative of people her age.

I like how she styles herself, but it isn't suitable for most people

It is reminds me (sorry to mention the Guardian again) of the All Ages fashion section on a Saturday - All ages as long as you have the figure of a model or ex-model (and I'm not overweight myself)

pootlebug · 22/11/2011 18:14

I turned 35 recently and am utterly depressed if that is the kind of clothing I have to wear now I've hit my late 30s

KittyFane · 22/11/2011 18:18

It's exactly the style she wears herself and she looks horrid (sorry Ms. Portas but you do).

Clossaintjacques · 22/11/2011 18:31

Funnily enough when I went in I did find one shirt I liked but it had a biba label in Grin

Can't be 100% sure but I think this was the viscose dress, something similar anyway. www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Mary+Portas+Jersey+wrap+slinkly+drape+dress/158007887,default,pd.html

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 22/11/2011 19:07

Not my style. Of course, Mary Portas always thinks she's right so it's probably me who's wrong.

Gone right off her, arrogant old bat.

GirlWithALlamaTattoo · 22/11/2011 19:09

Now that wrap dress is how to make a small arse look huge!

Ifancyashandy · 22/11/2011 19:12

I love it, got a few bits. Get asked where they're from when I wear them. But I am 5'8 .

JamieComeHome · 22/11/2011 19:13

yes, that wrap dress is designed for an "athletic" figure - to create curves etc. A figure not unlike MP's

Clossaintjacques · 22/11/2011 19:19

That green dress is 100% Polyester and lining 100% Acetate....bargain at £150!!

And the wrap dress is 100% Viscose with 100% Polyester lining for an original price of £220. I have to say when I felt it it really did feel cheap and of course hand made in Sri Lanka I believe!!

OP posts:
Jellykat · 22/11/2011 19:20

Like zukiecat i only like the Cable knit cardi, but the original price was £99, and its 85% Acrylic Shock.. no wonder its at saleprice - i guess you pay for the name.

I actually quite like MP, but i bet she doesn't wear a great deal of Acrylic/Polyester pieces herself.

Clossaintjacques · 22/11/2011 19:23

Ifancyashandy Interesting you are tall and it suits you. What did you buy and what was it made from?

OP posts:
SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 22/11/2011 19:25

Oh I like the dress. But not at £150. Also 5'8".

ouryve · 22/11/2011 19:25

If I wanted something tacky and synthetic, I'd buy per una for 1/3 of the price. Or go to Millets.

lubeybooby · 22/11/2011 19:26

I meant that it looks massively bigger than it should do Blush considering she is a model and presumably size 8

I am a 16/18 so I do know what a massive arse really is. My own for a start.

That dress is really, really not flattering
