Watching with interest. A fantasy of mine - and I know exactly what would be on it .... and where Envy

ggirl · 14/11/2011 08:08

I must be able to get my legs under the table bit and it must have deep drawers

Been trying to work out how to fit one into my room for a while. I'm convinced it will be the thing that will make me 1) effortlessly groomed 2) actually use my BBH. Oh and would be handy for stopping DD using my make up too

recall · 14/11/2011 08:14

Yeah, I have dressing table fantasies, everything in one place all beautiful and a bit sparkly

recall · 14/11/2011 08:16

with t lights and a mirror and a padded stool

Mumelie · 14/11/2011 09:36

Oh I love mine, one of my fav bits of furniture. I've had one since i was about 11 Grin

BleughCowWonders · 14/11/2011 09:39

Haven't, but I don't think it would work for me. I have to get REALLY near a mirror to see myself

Love the idea of a defined space of my own - but I'd have to have a huge dressing room to put it in, and my own bathroom of course.

dreaming...

I have a lovely dressing table, that I picked up in a junk shop for £50. It is dated 1935, has a large oval swinging mirror mounted on a stand, and one drawer. I love it.
When I spotted it, we really couldn't afford the £50 at all, and had to persuade my dh to let me buy it and live off pasta for a week. I could not allow it to be passed into the hands of another. It was a bargain and I've never regretted snaffling it with the last of the month's wages.

marriednotdead · 14/11/2011 10:27

I have one but don't use it in the fairytale sense as it hasn't got a mirror. It was chosen because I have a small bedroom and it fitted best in the space on my side of the bed. It has loads of drawers for my vast lingerie collection and thick socks, and can accommodate a tv, radio, and a lamp as well as the normal junk lotions and potions.
Despite it's practicality, I do really like it Smile

Havingkittens · 14/11/2011 16:35

I have a victorian pine dressing table. It doesn't have a mirror, I have a Revlon mirror with a light (as discussed in the light up mirror thread!) standing on it which I can have as near to my face as I need.

I would be inclined to just do an Ebay search for dressing tables in whatever style takes your fance. My dressing table was my mum's but if I were to search for a replacement it would be an art deco one.

kickingking · 14/11/2011 16:46

No I haven't got one Sad

CointreauVersial · 14/11/2011 18:31

Yes I do, and I love it; it's my little sanctuary in the morning.

It's actually an antique pine chest of drawers with a large angled mirror on top and a wicker chair. All my make-up, jewellery and hair stuff is close by, and my hair dryer sits in a basket beside it, all plugged in ready for use.

For years I had one which was passed down by my mum (it was hers when she was 16) - classic mid-1960s G-Plan with a three-part mirror. At the time I thought was really old-fashioned, and eventually upgraded, but now I wish I'd hung onto it.

ggirl · 14/11/2011 19:04

Havingkittens yes have had a look on ebay , there are some bargains to be had. I just have to convince dh that I need one Grin

I have one. It's not antique or anything but it has lovely deep drawers on either side and I bought a lovely padded stool and a mirror for it.

However - it is not my little sanctuary in the morning. I can't keep the bloody DC away from it. It's like a massive magnet saying "come over here and jump around while mummy is doing her hair / ironing out her eye bags / trying to get herself looking reasonably human in time to go to work" - I have had to instigate a reward/sanction chart purely to keep them out of "my" space in the mornings!

I still love it though.

MrsMcEnroe · 14/11/2011 19:09

And whenever DD (aged 5) has a friend round to play I can guarantee that I will go upstairs to find two little girls pulling all my nail varnish, bras and other womanly items out of the dressing table drawers and spreading them all over the duvet with glee ...

MrTumblesBum · 14/11/2011 19:12

Yes!

Never had one before but we moved at the beginning of the year into a house with a massive master bedroom.

I got something similar to this

I love it because I can hide all my crap under the lid and it looks really tidy. Our house also already had spotlights over the dressing table area with a cord which I can pull while I'm doing my make up for extra light.

AvadaKedavra · 14/11/2011 19:15

Mine is like this but without drawers there, there is another part that bolted on with drawers on and then the mirror. In white and all French and curvy looking. I love it!

My absolute dream of a dressing table is this:

But, having realised a few months ago that my budget will never stretch that far, I bought one of these off ebay :

With matching stool. It is the best thing I've ever bought, even considering how much I hate cleaning mirrors and glass Grin

Havingkittens · 14/11/2011 21:40

Ohhh, StantonLacy that's gorgeous. And yes, I had my eye on that fold out one too. I almost mentioned it on my earlier post but couldn't remember where I'd seen it.

onepieceofcremeegg · 14/11/2011 21:44

I don't own a dressing table. I would love one, as all the "bits" that would go in it are distributed around various areas in my bedroom. I think I have room for a tiny one, still looking for ideas.

There was a really lovely thread a while back. One day I will probably go on a bit of an internet search and find one and buy it. :)

onepieceofcremeegg · 14/11/2011 21:47

Avada I really really really love the one on that link. I may go and measure up my potential space. It's gorgeous. I really love it! Grin

AvadaKedavra · 15/11/2011 13:08

I got mine from Homebase about 5 years ago and am totally in love with it still, I sit on the bed and go all dreamy gazing at it Blush even though it's literally shoehorned into my present bedroom and taking up space I really need a chest of drawers in resulting in piles of clothes all over the place - not! on my dresser!! - I couldn't ever get rid of it

StantonLacy · 15/11/2011 14:22

HavingKittens - I do love it...although it's never quite as glam or pristine as I'd like it to be as it seems to acquire daily accessories of sticky toddler fingerprints and bits of Lego/small cars/grotty bits of cereal bar. A friend had one very similar so I kept searching ebay and finally found it. Lovely art deco...nice to see a fellow appreciator (if that term exists ?!) on here Smile

I remember linking to that Marie Galante one in a thread earlier this year. Sucker for a dressing table thread, me Grin

chipping · 15/11/2011 15:24

of course!!

It's dark wood, had a glass top made to protect it, 3 mirrors & secret drawers either side. Love it Smile
