Ok my dh has just said he'll answer this one for me in one word...'YES'. However I'm choosing to ignore him. Have reluctantly hung up my boot cuts and I'm thinking what now? Is it possible for the curvier amongst us to get on the skinny jean tip?

yes yes ..

spacedonkey · 01/01/2006 16:33

you should wear exactly what you want and sod what anyone else thinks!

PrincessPlumPuddingHead · 01/01/2006 16:34

YES

and skinny jeans are OVER

Pinotmum · 01/01/2006 16:34

Depends how curvy, how tall and what you intend to wear on your feet but basically yes the curvier figure can wear this cut.

Twiglett · 01/01/2006 16:35

YES of course they should be avoided

skinny jeans are for teenagers and anorexics

Joso · 01/01/2006 16:48

Yes...yes you're all SO right...what the hell was I thinking!! Think I'm loosing my mind. Ok let me re-phrase this one. What is the most flattering and vaguely fashionable cut of jean for a curvy girl, with hips n' bum but slim on top?

OP posts:
spacedonkey · 01/01/2006 16:48

straight cut, but cut a bit looser on the leg and well fitting round the bum

Boot cut or wide leg look better on curvy people as they balance you out more - otherwise you end up looking like a spinning top

Heathcliffscathy · 01/01/2006 16:59

don't listen to spacedonkey. she has legs up to her armpits

edodgy · 01/01/2006 16:59

bootcut, flared or wide leg.

spacedonkey · 01/01/2006 16:59

with a huge muffin top gut balanced on top

v attractive

Crystaltips · 01/01/2006 17:01

trinny and suzannah - say that if you are curvy - the straight leg makes curvier ladies look more top heavy ....

spacedonkey · 01/01/2006 17:03

I suppose it depends how "fashionable" you want to be - bootcut and flares have now been deemed mumsy

I think there is a difference between curvy and lardy. I am lardy, with small breasts and hips but lots of wobble. Sometimes curvy is a euphemism for fat...and the fat and wobbly should avoid skinny jeans IMO. They look crap on me anyhow!

PeachyClair · 01/01/2006 18:01

Well, I'm curvy (in the structural sort of way) and I was given skinny jeans for chrsitmas, Sis who lives purely to be rude to me said they suit me so it can't be THAT bad, (can it?)

SueW · 01/01/2006 18:03

Have a look at Beyonce's House of Dereon jeans, modelled on not skinny (IMO) models' legs and decide which styles are most flattering to the model?

bunny3 · 01/01/2006 18:24

It depends on your shape. I consider myself curvy (I am tall, slim legs, but think I look ok in skinny jeans. I always get loads of compliments in them. I think skinny jeans really suit my figure as they accentuate my legs (Im 5'10) and take the focus away from my wobbly stomach. I hide my muffin belly under a looser top - can do tight bottoms but not tops! I dont think short women with chunky legs look good in them though.

Joso · 01/01/2006 18:42

Ok, I'm now thinking that, straight rather than skinny is where I'm heading jean-wise. I'm definitely not a fashion victim but after shedding a load of baby weight I reckon a well-cut, up-to-date pair of jeans is gonna be a worthwhile addition to my wardrobe. I suppose that basically I'm looking for a current cut of jean which is flattering to a curvy (ok ok pear-shaped!) girl.

Miss Sixty Eden One jeans are THE skinny jeans for non-skinnies, according to the Guardian.

I agree that bootcut is old news. Most people can do a straighter leg - you just need to try some different cuts on.

SueW · 01/01/2006 20:31

Just spotted this on oprah.com.

Would you take style advice from this woman?!!! She seems to completely ignore her own adivce (there's an article on the site on how to choose jeans)

harpsichordcarrier · 01/01/2006 20:35

er yes
avoid

redredpants · 01/01/2006 22:01

Well I tried some on yesterday, sister advised me to, think she wanted a laugh!
I looked awful! They were black aswell, in Oasis, thought black was meant to be slimming!
I did buy some straight leg ones though, and I must say they were very nice for forty odd suid.

colditz · 01/01/2006 22:16

Hold on a minute, redredpants, how curvy is curvy? Cos I remember you are only 24, so your idea of curvy may not be as curvy as a 40 year old's.......
