Skinny jeans. Should the curvier figure avoid at all costs? Discuss!

Ok my dh has just said he'll answer this one for me in one word...'YES'. However I'm choosing to ignore him. Have reluctantly hung up my boot cuts and I'm thinking what now? Is it possible for the curvier amongst us to get on the skinny jean tip?

Whoever 'decided' skinny jeans were back in fashion should be hunted down and lynced IMHO! They were awful in the '80s and they are awful now ... They only look good if you have a figure like Kate Moss quite frankly!

I had a pair of stretch skinny jeans when I was 16 and I didn't have a bad figure at all and I still cringe at the photos ... they make the curvier woman look like she has turkey drumsticks for legs. To add insult to injury they are now made with the low rise style so not only do we have turkey drumsticks we also have the gorgeous wobbly muffin sitting on top! YUK YUK YUK!!!!!

I think that these days there are so many styles of jeans that women really can decide to wear styles that suit them and still look fashionable without succumbing to what the likes of Paris Hilton et all say we have to wear despite the fact that very few of us have the figure of a 6' model.

I have a decentish figure in the right clothes (size 10 - 12) but 2 10lb+ babies have made it a necessity to consider carefully before I buy low rise, tight fitting jeans, trousers and skirt and tight fitting, cropped tops ...

Rant over ...

No dear,

Don't scream too loud, you'll wake the kids up!

colditz · 01/01/2006 23:01

Mutter, mutter, hmm, how can I blame this one on hormones......

(I was sure I spoke to you a few weeks ago and you are 24.......mutter, mutter....)

redredpants · 01/01/2006 23:08

well, in a good(i.e. very dim) light, maybe, if stretch skin back with high ponytail!

made me feel girly though.
God I had a nice but when I ws 24!
Still wouldn't have worn skinny jeans though!

colditz · 01/01/2006 23:14

Right, now I know, I got you mixed up with Blondie14, I don't know how or why, but I did.

Sorry

Blossomhill · 01/01/2006 23:17

I have to disagree here. Noddyholder very kindly sent me a lovely pair of dark blue skinny jeans and as they are so tight they hold it all in and I look slimmer in them, honestly!
I couldn't wear a tight cropped top with them but don't wear things like that anyway!

I have to tuck mine into boots. Couldn't get away with wearing them with little ballet pumps or anything.
Mind you I am starting my diet tomorrow so will not be a size 12 but a size 10 very soon

Blossomhill · 01/01/2006 23:20

I think jeans just have to be bought carefully, whatever shape the cut.

redredpants · 02/01/2006 09:49

Could I get away with pretending to be 24, must try to look younger, must try to look younger, must try to look younger................middle-age crisis, here I come!
PAH! Mutton dressed as lamb.....whoever coined such a ridiculous phrase?.........skinny jeans...................if I half-close my eyes.............wear high heels I can't walk in....do "model" poses...call myself Kate Moss, oooooooh the possibilities...........

notasheep · 02/01/2006 10:29

Wear what ever you feel good in,whatever size your bum is.
I felt a frump in those flare/bootleg jobs.

My vote is for skinny or alternatively straight are a good cut

PeachyClair · 02/01/2006 15:07
