I've been using to Jo Malone's Vintage Gardenia perfume for years. I find that it lasts really well, without being overpowering - you don't need to respray much, if at all. Ordinarily, I'd get through two of the 100ml bottles a year, if used everyday; since having my daughter, I've only used a quarter of a 30ml bottle since July! It's better value to buy a large bottle if you're sure about the scent - £36 for 30mls or £72 for 100mls. I occasionally think that I should try one of the lovely other Jo Malone fragrances, but I think I'm wedded to it for life, as I've not yet got bored of the scent...

HTH

I love JM bath, body stuff and candles, but I have the Lime, Basil & Mandarin perfume but never wear it as it's overpowering and a bit cloying imo.

ujjayi · 08/11/2011 22:00

I can't abide Jo Malone perfumes. I once tried a huge range in Selfridges and didn't find a single one that smelt like the supposed ingredients (I trained as an aromatherapist so have a good nose).

Ormonde Jayne perfumes are beautiful if you are looking for something unusual and natural.

stickyLFDTfingers · 08/11/2011 22:03

I've never used it myself but have a good friend who does - she wears it for nights out and I always think she smells delicious!

CointreauVersial · 08/11/2011 22:26

I was given a bottle of Jo Malone Lime Blossom Cologne, but it was so vile I gave it away to the Smellies stall at our school fair.

I'd sooner daub loo cleaner behind my ears.

polyhymnia · 08/11/2011 22:34

No IMO. Vastly over rated. Just another Lauder brand. So many much better eg Miller Harris, Annick Goutal, etc

timidviper · 08/11/2011 22:39

Sorry to disagree but I love Amber and Lavender, even when I think it's worn off people will say they just got a little waft of it. It's the only perfume I regularly get asked about as it's so lovely.

I also love Pomegranate Noir which is much heavier and good for evenings

CroissantNeuf · 08/11/2011 22:44

After reading about it on here a few years ago I convinced myself that I wanted some as the fragrance blends sounded so lovely.

When I eventually found myself in Selfridges I tried out a few and really didn't like them.

I was so glad that I hadn't bought any

I really like the Vanilla and Anise perfume but I found I had to reapply it more often and went through 30ml in just a few months. I have other perfumes I've had for years.

EnjoyResponsibly · 08/11/2011 22:56

I have a 100ml bottle of Grapefruit per year, then a 30 ml of Vanilla and Anise for my winter birthday and a 30 ml of Nectarine and Honey Blossum for Mothers Day.

I LOVE it, but get it discount flying through T5.

yousankmybattleship · 08/11/2011 22:57

Only ever had a bottle once - given as a present and really didn't like it. I used it up because it was expensive and I felt guilty but it wasn't nice!

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/11/2011 22:58

I think you could get something she would prefer. She obviously likes quite strong perfumes! Apart from Pomegranate Noir, I don't find that any of the ones I've had last on me. If you are in London, I would recommend that you go to Les Senteurs, tell them that your Mum likes Opium and see what they recommend. I would also take a look at some of the older Guerlain perfumes such as Shalimar, Mitsouko, L'Heure Bleue, Vol de Nuit, all of which are fairly punchy.

scarlettsmummy2 · 08/11/2011 23:00

I really like the pomegranate noir fragrance, but some of them can smell a bit like cleaning products rather than perfume.

sfxmum · 08/11/2011 23:01

I am very fond of Miller Harris Noix de Tuberouse not for everyone but it is my evening perfume of choice here

sfxmum · 08/11/2011 23:02

and I like the old Guerlain perfumes

Northumberlandlass · 09/11/2011 07:53

I love Jo Malone perfumes - (pomegranate noir / english pear & freesia, ultimate favourites). I think if you love it, then that's all that matters.

However, they don't last on my skin and I do begrudge paying that amount of cash for a short lived scent. Part of the problem is they are all eau d'toilette and I'd really prefer perfum.

When it comes to Jo Malone, I tend to buy my favourite in the body creme (scent lasts ages) and then an extra spray to add on.

I don't like chemical / un-natural smelling perfumes - they just smell false to me.

ZacharyQuack · 09/11/2011 11:25

If your mum likes Opium, she might like Jo Malone 154

ColdSancerre · 09/11/2011 11:29

I love English Pear and Freesia and do what Northumberlandlass suggests, body cereme and a light spritz of cologne. Lasts fine.

Is Jo Malone really owned by Estee Lauder then polyhymnia?

RottenRow · 09/11/2011 11:36

Second the body lotion. I find the scent lasts for ages. Haven't noticed it so much with the perfume

LaDolcheRyvita · 09/11/2011 11:52

Hmmm... They all smell like posh room (air) fresheners to me.

I've had Grapefruit given me as a gift but wouldn't re purchase. Not long lasting and who wants to smell like breakfast, all day? Also, wore it in the summer and was a constant wasp magnet.

A "KING'S NEW CLOTHES" product, in my opinion.

laptopwieldingharpy · 09/11/2011 12:25

Yes air fresheners is quite apt

TopazMortmain · 09/11/2011 13:03

Love Jo Malone but I only like scents that actually smell of something real eg roses or amber.

timidviper · 10/11/2011 22:22

ColdSancerre I think Jo malone sold her business to Estee Lauder a while ago, she is now setting up another business and bringing out fragrances called "Jo Loves" for Christmas IIRC
