Does anyone have the humming bird or bee - are they sharp and do they jag your chest

OP posts:
cardoon · 08/11/2011 13:44

*hummingbird

henrythecat · 08/11/2011 18:53

I've got a baby bee and no, not sharp at all and don't catch on clothes either. If you haven't seen them in real life I suggest doing so as it's really difficult to visualise their size in real life - e.g. the bee is huuuge (hence I picked the baby bee) whereas some of them are teeny tiny. You will love it though, best present I've ever had.

cardoon · 08/11/2011 18:59

Thanks henry, that's reassuring......hadn't really thought about scale! Do you know who stocks?

OP posts:
henrythecat · 08/11/2011 19:04

London-wise, I've seen them in Liberty but not a Londoner so don't know anywhere else. They've just started stocking them in my local John Lewis so that might be worth a look. Otherwise maybe email them and drop them a list of their local stockists? It's also worth a look on their facebook page as they have lots of pics of their staff and celebs wearing the pieces which can give you a better idea of what they look like in real life? Good luck!

henrythecat · 08/11/2011 19:04

*ask them for

Oh dear, not a good night for grammar!

SeeLyon · 08/11/2011 19:07

i have the birdy thing

cardoon · 08/11/2011 19:28

Is it the hummingbird? No snagging or jagging to report seelyon?

Can try JL in Edinburgh

OP posts:
Taranta · 08/11/2011 19:33

I have a silver bee and a gold bee, and a hummingbird. (Um, I'm a Monroe obsessive...) I love the weight of the bees, the reverse is just as perfectly formed and bee anatomically accurate as the front. Hummingbird is tiny, would go for the bee it is a design classic IMO

cardoon · 08/11/2011 20:00

Wow Taranta you are a fan, I can't decide which design to go for (love most of them)!.......but was a bit concerned they might be difficult to wear.

OP posts:
Taranta · 08/11/2011 20:18

Seriously go for the bee cardoon they are just beeootiful! I actually also have the birds and nest ring, with a pearl, but that really does snag big time so hardly ever wear it...also since having the bairn my fingers are still too fat to get it on!

cardoon · 08/11/2011 20:40

Do you have big bee or baby bee (or both!)?

OP posts:
Taranta · 09/11/2011 15:30

Normal sized bee I think, wingspan just under 3cm, body 1.5cm top to bottom...last Christmas the website did an advent calendar of different special limited edition bits - sold out really quick but were just some lovely bits - little gold bird on a silver milk bottle etc, 12 of one thing, 11 of another and so on. Really hoping theyll do it again this year, tho can't afford it!

cardoon · 09/11/2011 15:59

Do you find the 16/18" chain long enough? I think I'd like mine to dangle a bit lower...

OP posts:
Taranta · 09/11/2011 16:04

Yes, long enough - any longer it'd get really tangled as it's very fine. I like the bee to nestle in the hollow of my throat, or a little lower. If I had any cleavage to speak of though, I might go for longer!

Pinot · 09/11/2011 16:21

I have the "Mr and Mrs Bird" necklace in silver. The one where Mrs Bird is sheltering under Mr Bird's wing. God, I love it SO much. Much much more than my fancy pendants that are ££ more. It's so delicate and means such a lot to me (the sentiment that went into DH choosing it I mean).

I'd like the baby bee necklace. Not a fan of the rings, too snaggy and I don't wear occasional rings anyway.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Alex Monroe to anyone. Best thing MN has rec'd, IMO.

cardoon · 09/11/2011 18:33

Awww, that's very touching Pinot!

Taranta I have a cavernous cleavage so don't want it anywhere near "choker".

funnypeculiar · 23/11/2011 14:04

I have the twig & snail one - even though there are lots of details & corners they don't seem to snag somehow & certainly don't catch on your skin. Absolutely love it - 10th anniversary present from dh.

amonroe · 23/11/2011 17:51

Hi cardoon,
You should give us a ring! My wife wears the humming bird necklace constantly and occasionally it jabs me when we hug. (She's fine though!). If you were cuddling a baby I reckon a baby bee or something else just in case. Anyway do phone any time if you need advice.
(p.s. from Alex, a friend copied me your question!)

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/11/2011 20:03

I have the baby bee, dragonfly and long feather and love them all. The dragonfly is slightly more scratchy than the bee.

And ahem if that is Alex - how about a mn discount Smile

funnypeculiar · 23/11/2011 20:24

Hello Alex Grin

I actually don't want a mn discount as I want to keep you to myself - there's a shop in our local town that has just started selling your stuff and much as I'm happy for you, I liked it when you were my little secret!

IceCreamCastles · 23/11/2011 20:30

I have the baby bee and love it. Not snaggy or jagged- just hangs there perfectly.

Great customer service too- my bee somehow detatched from the chain and they had it fixed and returned within the week.

I'd like the butterfly-is it really small does anyone know?

henrythecat · 23/11/2011 21:20

Hello Alex!

If you do anything with a cat on, I will love you forever.

IceCream - I saw the butterfly in JL and it is small but still lovely.

silver28 · 24/11/2011 08:20

DH has now ordered me a baby bee necklace for Christmas on the strength of this thread. I hope it's as nice as I'm expecting! (well, when I say he ordered it, it was technically me but he was aware of what I was doing!)

bigkidsdidit · 24/11/2011 08:48

I've just put the birds neckalce down as my present on the family secret santa this year (enormous family, we all get one brilliant present). I can't wait!

Would like the dragonfly too actually. Wonder if they'll be included in the Astley Clarke sale?

belgo · 24/11/2011 08:52

I didn't get the bird or bee one because of the possibilty that it would sag and be uncomfortable.

Instead dh bought me this one, without the diamond, so it was cheaper but just as pretty.

It broke the first time I wore, so I exchanged it for a new one.
