Are dresses the way forward?

I don't enjoy buying clothes that much. I buy separates I like, but can never seem to find the top to go with the bottom and vice versa.

I have had a revelation today that dresses are the way forward. Cheaper than separates, easy to wear etc.

Does anyone have anything they would recommend for everyday school run type stuff. I am 5'8" size 12-14 but with broad shoulders, so sometimes size 16, flat chested! I suit brightish colours - I have brown hair and grey blue eyes.

Ok thank you! I'm taking lots of notes here,
Sheepskin
Thermals
Cashmere
Layering (def the way forward for me)

Actually my mum was horrified with how much I was packing for a 3 day break in Edinburgh until I explained that these clothes added up to 3 daytime outfits.

A vest, poloneck, sweater, cardigan, tights, long socks, jeans.

I haven't bought any winter boots yet, I can't open links on my phone but sheepskin ones sound GREAT.

M&S Autograph merino tights are good.

hmmm maybe I could....I may order one to see.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 09/10/2011 13:50

Lovely dress. Sadly none of the colours would do me any favours. I'd love to wear the orange one but it ain't going to happen!

lec0rnsillk · 09/10/2011 13:51

I fancy the red one

Bunbaker · 09/10/2011 14:22

I like the Gok designs in Sainsburys as well. In fact I am off there tomorrow to see if there are any left.

I bought this last week and I found it very flattering and comfortable. It washes well and doesn't even need ironing. And at £10 it is a bargain. (I am 5'7" and size 10/12, and flattish of chest)

ThePosieParker · 09/10/2011 14:26

just bought this

AnnetteProfit · 09/10/2011 15:08

i think every single dress linked to is pretty vile.
i find dresses impossible - with the exception of the phase eight janice

it hink as i am short waisted with not much of a waist.

also hate the polyester " tea dresses" ew ewew

OliviaMumsnet · 09/10/2011 15:09

to OP = Yes.

AnnetteProfit · 09/10/2011 15:11

oh ignore away.
i am Biased Against Dresses

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 09/10/2011 15:16

Annette, they're not for everyone, and I loathe and resent how many potentially nice dresses are ruined by being made from cheap and nasty fabric. A tunic dress might work for your shape though?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/10/2011 15:25

I'm another one who hates polyester dresses. I like some of the jersey dresses in the White Company and I have the Janice, although it currently has a hole in it from a Drunken Kitchen Accident.

I'm short waisted too. Vivienne Westwood dresses work on me, though the more fitted ones tend to be too big across the back and shoulders but I can't size down because of norks and tummy.

This sort of shape tends to suit me too.

lec0rnsillk · 09/10/2011 15:29

phase eight jackie was perfect dress for my shape but can't find one anywhere now

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/10/2011 15:31

This looks as if it could be v flattering but Hobbs dresses are way too long for me.

lec0rnsillk · 09/10/2011 15:43

I am coveting this here

AnnetteProfit · 09/10/2011 15:44

Bunbaker · 09/10/2011 15:45
