I was searching for some petite clothes, and up popped this lady. Very bizarre, with all her modelly type poses and her old mumsy shoes.

Put me right off. I mean, for all I know, she sells thousands of the strange designs, but...honestly. And why do all the tops all end right on her waist? And look rather supermarkety?

That woman is creepy! Tbh I'd call her 'dumpy' rather than petite! This actually annoys me about some 'petite' clothing ranges, instead of scaling down an item, keeping the proportions the same, they make the legs mega short.

just read the bit about her on her website and she says she is proud to be the "oldest, most realistic model on the internet"

I think you're being a bit mean ... but maybe I've crossed the line myself from petite to dumpy

Tell you what I hate, its when I see an otherwise nice 'petite' dress or skirt which hangs below my feet... maybe its meant to be worn with huge heels, but I reckon huge heels look stupid on most small women. (and anyway I can't walk in them)

OK, not my thing, but why so bitchy? If you don't like it, don't buy it. I think this reaction to an older, shorter woman modelling clothes just goes to show how skewed our opinion is of what is acceptable/attractive in fashion advertising. IMO, what is more bizarre is that nearly all the clothes we see in the media are modelled by women who are above the 98th percentile line! (courtesy of DS's red book)
Would you rather see petite designs on a woman likely to be a foot taller than the target market? In much the same way that teenagers advertise wrinkle creams? Perhaps there is no market for models who are more, well, average?

I don't get petite. I am 5 ft and I have never bought anything petite. If things are too long I get them shortened but have never found tops or anything too long. I so hope I don't look like her , she looks dumpy in most things :( ( jeez I really hope I don't )

And how she can say that that is a petite range when the inside legs of the jeans is 30in is beyond me. I am 4ft11 so definatly petite and my inside leg is 27in so that would be 3in to long for me and who the hell would pay £75 for a pair of jeans that look like they could come from TU or George?

I know, I know, it's good to have real models, not skinny things...but honestly...have you seen her "modelly poses". They look mad!

Honestly, I am in favour of using real life models, but she looks bonkers...

And petite models are great, cos obviously if you used great lanky girls, the clothes would look like hankerchiefs.

But if I was running a clothing business, I wouldn't suddenly think "I know! I'll put on all the clothes myself, and strike "fun" poses...that'll sell more clothes!"

bishbochone do you buy petite jackets? Cos you're the same height as me, and I find if I buy jackets for taller people, the shoulders are too big, and I look like I'm channelling Maggie Thatcher.

OK, I'll bite. You are in favour of real life models as long as they conform to your expectations of what models should look like, which, in turn, are shaped by an industry which discriminates against old, short, fat etc. It's a bit of a closed circuit with little room for variety, non?

She may not be 'selling' the clothes in the way we are accustomed to, but she is trying to run a business and reach out to a largely ignored market. I may not be a fan, but for one reason or another it bothers me that she is being put down on the sole basis of her appearance, although, I do get it, we expect fashion to promise to make us look amazing.

Of course you're right Youngblowfish, but I think your last point is the thing, we want to believe we look like the model in the clothes, not to have the illusion shattered! I think the thing with this woman is the clothes & poses all look a bit dated, rather than what she looks like per se. She's not actually flattering her shape.

Actually, I don't think it's about her as a model, but that her clothes don't suit small, slight women. I look at them and just think they're frumpy and not at all stylish often with unfortunate choices in fabrics.
