Don't you think this woman would sell more petite clothes

if she didn't model her designs herself?

Am I being mean??

I was searching for some petite clothes, and up popped this lady. Very bizarre, with all her modelly type poses and her old mumsy shoes.

Put me right off. I mean, for all I know, she sells thousands of the strange designs, but...honestly. And why do all the tops all end right on her waist? And look rather supermarkety?

strange outfits

Perhaps I'm just in a bad mood about the whole petite clothing type of thing (slouches off in a grumpy type manner)

PetiteMummy, PigeonPie, point taken, I for one have no idea what flatters a smaller frame. Still, the OP stated that she thought the clothes would sell better had they not been modelled by the designer and that is what I have an issue with. I don't disagree, I just think it is terribly unfortunate that we are so conditioned by the media that a middle-aged woman advertising clothes made by her business gets such a bitchy reception. She seems out of place because we are so used to idealised images and she gets ridiculed because of it.

More generally, I just think the fashion industry is a bit bonkers, although I do love clothes. SIL is petite any my MIL alters literally all her clothes. At 5'10", I shop on the high street and never have anything altered as most things fit me straight of the peg, despite the fact that over 99% of women are shorter than me. Isn't that crazy?

frutilla · 30/09/2011 22:27

Just be grateful there's no lingerie section...

youngblowfish · 30/09/2011 22:29

Sorry, *straight off the peg

I'll shut up now.

mad pose

Well if you can look at this without laughing, you're a better woman than I.

RantyMcRantpants · 30/09/2011 22:45

ROFL

Old bag .. No I don't buy petite jackets. I am a size 8-10 and find those fit fine in normal sizes. In fact I bought a petite next coat in the sale by mistake once and it fits really strange , as if it's too short all over

Blueberties · 01/10/2011 09:01

I think it's quite nice to see a normal person modelling. I don't see any reason why petite should mean tiny - petite normally means short, bu including sizes smaller than you'd normally get.

What's wrong with the clothes - they aren't that bad. For a particular demographic they're actually quite nice.

Blueberties · 01/10/2011 09:02

Some of the responses are a bit ott - it's just a website with a normal looking woman modelling clothes. Are you all models or do you all look in the mirror in the morning and laugh yourselves to death?

caramelwaffle · 01/10/2011 09:20

I like the Tulip dress and would look really nice in it with my colouring. I am too tall for her range overall and do not conform to her target market.

How many of you who are laughing conform to the 5ft 11in - no breasts above an A cup - no hips - size 6 (Uk) Gay designers Ideal?

MatLeaveForever · 01/10/2011 09:22

I don't think any of us are laughing at what the lady looks like, to me it's just her poses I find amusing. If a 5ft 11in, size 6, 20 year old model posed like that I'd laugh just as much.

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 01/10/2011 09:52

her poses look no different to me than any other catalogue model poses.
You get up any catalogue on line right now and flick through it and you will find the same sort of poses.

I do hope the reason you are laughing isn't because she is an older woman and not a 5ft11 skinny blonde 20yr old...
