brightened nude-ish lipcolour?

this is a long shot, I've recently discovered Brothers and Sisters (US family drama) and love the natural but not dead-looking lip colour they have on (even the men have lovely natural-bright lips). I only have one lipstick in the world Blush and that's a bright pale orangey coral, the only thing which doesn't make me look dead, but I can't wear that every day as it's a bit too much of a "look". I've been searching for another lipstick or lip balm but can't find anything: I had another pointless afternoon in John Lewis yesterday.
I want something which is a pale-ish, natural looking but brightish colour for everyday. Proper nudes make me look like the undead (I am very pale but with a greyish cast to my skin, gorgeous huh?). Do you have any thoughts?

MAC's Ultra Darling is lovely too. I use it a lot on clients to just enhance their lips' natural pinkness. Or sometimes Midimauve, which is slightly more mauve toned. A lot of people do actually have a hint of mauve to their natural lip colour, hence the mauve name mentioned earlier in the thread which is not so insane after all! The other thing worth trying is Dior's Ultra Glow Balm which is a lip balm that works with your own lips' ph balance to bring out the natural colour most flattering to your own colouring.

There is a lot of confusion with nude or natural lipsticks. A beige tone is not a natural lip colour, contrary to popular belief, and is only flattering to a certain handful of people. Beiges and browns can actually be really draining on a lot of people. The most flattering natural shade is something just slightly deeper/brighter than your natural lip tone. This fades as you get older so mimicking your youthful lip tone will have an anti ageing effect.

Yep, completely agree Havingkittens. Chanel Coco Rouge Gardenia and Camelia are a good match of my natural lip pigment (just ever so slightly enhanced), but they are nothing like sand beige, more like medium pink. But they make me look a lot younger. Brownish reds, on the other hand, add many years to my real age.

Thanks knitknack - sounds intriguing. I agree Havingkittens - which is why I've been obsessed with "brightened" pretty nudes. Amazing the number of tones which exist in any skin! I am looking for something which is bright and youthful but not a "look" - eg my orange lipstick which is great for mad men looks but not every day and not with strong eye makeup
DonaAna - will be calling in at chanel soon!

Rimmel show off shade 050 Have Fun. I have pale cool- toned skin and this is as pale as I can go. It's semi matte. Pink with brown hint.

Have you had a look at Une lip colours? they do a range of lip toned ones which range from barely there colours to darker reddish pink shades (ie a darker version if normal lip colours). In Boots at the mo on 3 for 2 with lots of other make-up. I got some at the weekend and they are lovely! My previous fave was Clinique tenderheart which is a brownish pink nude colour.

I've never found a proper nude for my lips - I have yellow-toned skin and pale pink lips - anything that actually matches my lip colour makes me look really drained, and anything darker doesn't look nude. Not usually a problem as I like reds, strong browns and purples usually for lips anyway, but as I get older (37) I think I need something more natural for everyday. I have BB Nude and love it, but it's not something you wear as a natural look. I actually bought Mauve it Over from this thread and I like it, but on me it has a retro-60s type look, not totally natural.

BUT, yesterday, going into Boots to spend a No7 voucher I saw the Poppy King lipsticks for the first time and I think that these are the nudes I am looking for. Really lovely formulation, quite sheer but still with good colour - not really like they look in the tube. They didn't look that interesting looking at them, but when I did a test on my hand, I really liked it. I found that 2 of them worked as nudes on me - Confidence for a peachy nude and Intrigue for a more pinky nude, which is great as I can alter them depending on other make up, and more proper pinks just look wrong against my skin. Also got Seduction which is more my usual comfort zone - a lovely sheer plum, as it was a 3 for 2 offer - so with the £5 voucher as well I saved £17. I am well impressed!

Sorry to say that BB nude does not work on me at all. Shame as the texture is lovery. It is too pinky. But clinique black honey really does though its staying power is very poor. I imagine that would suit anyone really.

Marking my place.

Purchased the Kate moss Rommel one at weekend but on wearing it I think it is too pale iykwim

moragbellingham · 06/10/2011 13:06

Have just tried a few (No 7 chic,Revlon mauve, Mac freckletone) and they make me look deathly.
I did try the Dior glow stuff but balked at the price but right next to it in Boots found L'Oreal Universal lip glow for £6.49! So I tried and like it - not nude at all but just enhancing and glossy.
Burts Bees rhubarb balm (another perfect one kittens!!) is nude on me so I must have very rosy lipsConfused

Thanks for the tip about the Poppy King ones Elemental, I went to Boots today armed with a big wad of vouchers and bought the Intrigue (plus a load of other stuff), it is lovely, just a slightly deeper colour than my natural skintone, brightens my face up nicely. In case anyone else is looking for them, they weren't with the main No7 stand in the shop I went to, but were on a little promotional stand in the corner of the beauty area, so you might have to hunt around a bit for them.
