brightened nude-ish lipcolour?

this is a long shot, I've recently discovered Brothers and Sisters (US family drama) and love the natural but not dead-looking lip colour they have on (even the men have lovely natural-bright lips). I only have one lipstick in the world Blush and that's a bright pale orangey coral, the only thing which doesn't make me look dead, but I can't wear that every day as it's a bit too much of a "look". I've been searching for another lipstick or lip balm but can't find anything: I had another pointless afternoon in John Lewis yesterday.
I want something which is a pale-ish, natural looking but brightish colour for everyday. Proper nudes make me look like the undead (I am very pale but with a greyish cast to my skin, gorgeous huh?). Do you have any thoughts?

ooh doglover, I wonder if that's similar to the mythical BB nude

This might help. Bobbis Browns lip shade chart here Basically you find the colour closets to your own lips (top row) then underneath it suggests lipsticks in different finishes that will compliment your lip tone.

This is important as what looks nude on one person will be too light/dark on another depending on the pigmentation of your own lips. I look ghastly in anything pale as my lips are fairly dark pink.

Not sure if Im going mad but I cant see infamous "Nude" on this chart. Bizarre. Anyway, plenty of other options (I like Brown and Brownie too, Sandwash pink nice on pale lips etc). I find Bobbi Brown does the best "nude/natural" shades and variety of textures

Hope that helps

I've bought and thrown out 100's of nude lippies over the years. All of them made me look dead.

I then discovered Mauve it Over by Revlon - Lisa Eldridge (much MN reference make up artist). Don't be put off by the name, it's not mauve! It is, however, a revelation! It's my natural colour but better. I've worm it pretty much every day since I found it.

Ifancyashandy · 19/09/2011 20:01

Arrgghh, don't know what happened there! Lisa Eldridge recommended it on her website.

Sorry for big missing bit in middle of post!

SayItIsntSo · 19/09/2011 20:05

thanks Gillybobs, I find it really puzzling how different lipsticks can look on different people (I think this is how I lost my mojo).
Am wondering if the infamous BB nude might be "rosy nude"? Have never seen it IRL ...

I'm still upset BB discontinued Ruby Stain..
A lovely nude is Nars Dolce Vita.

SayItIsntSo · 19/09/2011 20:07

Ifancyashandy will have a look on her website, the mauve-ish name would normally put me off (what do these cosmetic companies drink while they're choosing these names?!) but if it has nothing mauve about it, I'll have a go.

coffeeinbed sorry to hear about your discontinued favourite, once I do find a lippie I can actually wear, I'll stockpile it.
I think Nars is another new discovery for me today, the formulations look lovely and luxurious.

I think it depends how you apply it.

SayItIsntSo if you like your orangey lipstick but feel it's too 'much' for every day, try putting on just a very very little amount. Even apply it with your finger, so its barely there; just enough to give a tint of it. Then blot with a tissue and put some clear gloss over the top.

Gillybobs · 19/09/2011 20:17

BB "nude" def not a rosy nude, more an orangey brown nude

SayItIsntSo · 19/09/2011 20:24

thanks Bendybob, I'll have a go at dabbing it over my faithful chapstick.
Gillybobs, I shall have to track it down and have a go.

Op just got your PM, will mail back now.

UnrequitedSkink · 19/09/2011 20:37

My perfect nude is Clinique 'Blushing Nude' (the clue is in the name Wink). It's got a lovely creamy formulation too. Just in case you needed another one to check out!

moragbellingham · 19/09/2011 20:41

Laura Mercier Baby Lips is a pinky nudey colour and very wearable with no other make up on.

SayItIsntSo · 20/09/2011 01:29

Thanks Tigerbear.
UnrequitedSkink, that Clinique "Blushing Nude" looks very cute. moragbellingham, love the name of that Laura Mercier one!

I was about to suggest Clinique's Blushing Nude, but UnrequitedSkink beat me to it!

ednurse · 20/09/2011 02:48

MAC Creme Cup or Hug Me are both lovely nudes.

auldspinster · 20/09/2011 08:02

Revlon Colorburst in rosy nude is about the only nude that doesn't make me look dead.

corlan · 20/09/2011 08:39

Debenhams have the Bobbi Brown nude lipstick in stock at the moment here

notnowImreading · 20/09/2011 08:40

I agree with Morag - Laura Mercier Baby Lips is great.

polyhymnia · 20/09/2011 10:13

I think that's in their lipshine range which I really love - it's been my favourite for years. Enjoy!

ameliagrey · 20/09/2011 10:35

There's nude and nude- if you mean mauve/brown then count me out.

I like nude but with more of a coral tawny tone.

I like Clinique Adore U in the Buttershine range, and Dior have lots of nude shades in their High Shine Addict range.

I also like B brown lippie- it's not the full lippie but the softer one - in baby- which again is a peachy pink- their website describes it as an icy pink but that's rubbish- it's browny peach.

ScarletLady01 · 20/09/2011 11:41

I wear Myth by MAC. It's quite a cool nude (think pale coffee/mocha colour), I can't wear warm lipstick colours they look awful on me. I'm really limited for lipstick as anything even slightly reddish toned looks terrible (so all those reddy browns are out).

Myth is gorgeous though, I'm very pale as well.

SayItIsntSo · 21/09/2011 00:09

Thanks ednurse: I'll give hug me and creme cup a go. Auldspinster: have noted Revlon shade, it's bargainous. Thank you for finding the BB nude - I'll pop into my local Debenhams and investigate. Notnowimreading, polyhymnia, baby lips is fast approaching most popular lip colour in the thread!
Ameliagray, I agree I can't do mauve/brown. Adore U sounds nice. The peachy pink BB shade sounds lovely.
ScarlettLady I'll have a go at Myth too - MAC won't know what's hit them when I turn up with my list. I am super pale but warm toned (I'm peaches and cream) so we'll see what it does with my complexion.
Right, I shall report back ...

Nars 'dolche vita' is a great nude, but an even better one for those of us who need a little pink not to look 'dead' is bobbi brown's 'blue raspberry' (which isn't blue, or really raspberry!). I'm a brown eyed red head, so can't do nudes at all without looking alien, but blue raspberry is amazing....
