Anyone Else Think Avon is Rubbish?

My neighbour's daughter recently started selling Avon and every 3 weeks or so I've browsed and bought something - usually trying to stick to things I reckon I'll use. She's a nice girl and obviously trying to make a bit of money. But is it just me or is Avon stuff just rubbish??
Worst things I've bought
Curl enhancing mousse - it's actually like mousse I used to use in the 80s/90s - once it was near the end of the can and didn't froth up any more and it left my hair looking frizzy
Creamy eyeshadow - within minutes it has smeared into nothing
Shower gel - more suitable to pre-teenage girl and not the usual type of moisturising luxury gel that I can get for same price in supermarket
Lipsticks - always have the feel that they've been left in the heat and started to melt
Cream blusher - was supposed to be pink and could be used on eyes, lips and cheeks - the actual colour is lilac.

Anyone else find the same? appreciate I've not been wanting to splash lots of cash but seriously unimpressed and wouldn't buy the really expensive stuff

I forgot bronzing pearls and illuminating pearls. Fab.

I look at the handwashes etc and the footcream is good but I woudn't touch the make up with a bargepole. I'm tried and tested dyed in the wool Clinique and it spoils you. (Sorry)

Msarsebiscuit · 17/06/2012 00:00

I'm a dyed in the wool make up snob - I wave my Kevyn Aucoin foundation and By Terry mascara in the face of Clinique and their like but Avon Supershock and Glimmerstick eyeliners are bloody marvellous.

Not using it at the moment but in the past I have got on well with Anew and the pot of blusher/ highlighter balls.

My sister got me an Avon perfume for my birthday.

Does she not know me at all ?! I've dis-owned her.

:o

I had the Avon fitflops and thought they were good. Unfortunately I put in the washing machine (as I got white and they were dirty) and that was the end of that.

I have since gotten real Fitflops that have lasted over 2 years but didn't put them in the washing machine so not a fair comparison

Thanks for views on fit flops

I like their glimmersticks and their Anew skincare range. I do get their eyeshadows sometimes and the colour payoff is not great but fine if I wear a primer. Wouldnt buy their foundations as I need to test colours first, same reason I wont buy foundation off the internet.

I've just been handed an Avon catalogue. I haven't seen one of these since about 1984 so this thread has been interesting to read what's good and what's not.

I've looked at the Skin so Soft and it only used to come in one type, it was a greenish transparent bottle in 1984. I'm interested in using it as an insect repellent. Would one of you who likes it for that please tell me exactly which thing I should be buying as there are about 10 different SsS products in the catalogue and two different fragrances. Thank you!

SwitchedtoEatingCheese · 22/06/2012 16:58

For midge repellent the sss original fragrance dry oil spray, the one in a white bottle with a green lid is the best

MaloryMad · 22/06/2012 17:30

Thank you Switchedto. Now you've described it I can see it in the current brochure #12 -its taking up the whole of the back page Blush.

Shocking actions for a large company.
I received and email from Avon with several tempting offers, and on 15 November I ordered £29 of good from Avon online and paid immediately and received a confirmation email of my order. When they had not arrived after 2 weeks I phoned the helpline to be told no record of your order exists and all you can do is claim a refund.
Unbelievably this turned out to be true. After many emails, this is all they will do !!!!! No recompense for keeping my money for two weeks or the hassle I have had. Barely and apology, blaming it on "a glitch". They even spelt my name wrong on their emails>
To reorder the items I bought, would now £56 without the special offers, so the only possible conclusion is that Avon is a rip of underhand company and not to be trusted at all.
I will never buy anything from Avon or their parent company Estee Lauder ever again.
