what are the most flattering jeans money can buy?

Sorry if this has been done to death.

I need extremely cool jeans for a party - ones that are flattering to ladies of a pear-shaped persuasion with a small flabby tum.

I am a size 12 on top but 14 on the bottom and not very tall.

Any advice?

Anyone?

O mumsnet style gurus - I was relying on you to save me from teh horror that is Oxford Street [weeps silently into keyboard]

IMO, seven or fcuk.

orienteerer · 07/09/2011 21:03

M&S Autograph.

theyoungvisiter · 07/09/2011 21:07

Oh thank you!

M&S trousers never seem to fit me - I think they are made for women with flatter bottoms! But there is an M&S near me which wouldn't entail going into central London so that, in itself, is a good enough reason to give them a try. Grin

Thanks for the Seven and FCUK recommendations Mango. Do you know who would stock Seven?

I find ben sherman or replay jeans a great fit (the bs ones I have had got me so many compliments, just wish I could fit into them, toooooo many munchies this hols Blush )

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 07/09/2011 21:09

It's the million dollar question.

My most flattering pair are 7FAMs but I'm a different shape from you. I've also got on very well with Gap styles.

MrsCampbellBlack · 07/09/2011 21:09

Right well I am a small apple so not much help.

But do you have a good dept store or specialist denim store near you? You need to go and try on loads of pairs - i personally rate Citizens of Humanity and J Brand but it does vary so much.

latrucha · 07/09/2011 21:10

Everyone on another curvy girls thread reckons Gap curvy.

thestringcheeseincident · 07/09/2011 21:10

John Lewis or Selfridges stock sevens. Any large department store should.

therugratref · 07/09/2011 21:11

I am an hourglass size 12-14 and 5'6". I find J-Brand love story or monroe bell's with a pair of killer heels in dark indigo work or James Jeans are the other ones that I wear.

theyoungvisiter · 07/09/2011 21:20

See I'm not exactly curvy - I don't have a skinny waist, it's more that I have a sticking out bottom (A la J-lo, I like to kid myself Wink)

Thanks for all the recommendations - I saw the gap curvy thread but my last jeans from there were a total disaster - the material was bizarrely soft and they literally fell apart at the seams within a week. I took them back and exchanged them for a new pair, and the second pair did exactly the same. So I swore never to buy denim from them again. Maybe I'm being unfair though, perhaps they've mended their ways?

So... what you're all saying is I need to brave Selfridges. Arrrrrrrrrrgggggg. There are no words for how much I hate Selfridges. I get sweaty just walking through the doors. Maybe I can do it if I get someone to take the kids. [sweats thinking about it]

Paige are the best jeans ever imo. I have 7's too but I much prefer Paige ones. And yes, sorry, Selfridges it is!

Try the Paige high waisted ones - they are not stupidly high waisted, just right and so comfy. They look fantastic on, I have been asked a few times about mine when I have worn them.

theyoungvisiter · 07/09/2011 21:36

Oooh I quite fancy high-waisted ones. I find low-rise ones look ok when you first put them on, but then they slip down your hips and you end up with a horrible muffin-top arse.

Bellavita · 07/09/2011 21:37

French connection straight legged jeans - fabulous.

Bellavita · 07/09/2011 21:38

And they sit on the waist.

theyoungvisiter · 08/09/2011 18:29

thank you - much appreciated! Lots of food for thought here...

7's without a doubt. They are the most flattering jeans I have ever had.

WillPenn · 08/09/2011 21:13

A vote for Paige from me too. I am a 14-16 5'6" and curvy with a flabby tummy. The Paige Hidden Hills jeans with a slightly higher waist are muffin top reducing and very flattering on the legs. I've also got a pair of 7 For All Mankind in the Kimmie style - these are also v. nice.

BoogiesBunny · 08/09/2011 23:18

Totally agree with sevens and Paige jeans - just fantastic! I have also recently bought a pair from Levi - they now do women's jeans in shapes eg 'slight curve', 'semi-curve' etc etc. Their website helps you decide which you are based on the problems you have finding jeans (mine being that they never button!) and they do fittings in store. I have to say that I just love them - my waist size drop 4 inches from a pair of Paige jeans I recently tried - just because the cut around the bum & waist works for me! Good for the soul!

LemonDifficult · 08/09/2011 23:19

Paige Denim

I like Nudie jeans too.

wildfig · 08/09/2011 23:26

Another vote for Paige (Hollywood Hills), or Joe's Muse.

Go somewhere that has knowledgeable staff who can spare you the pain help you find the right style quickly, so you don't hit the self-loathing wall around the 23rd pair. Start is meant to be very good. The best jeans I ever bought were from Bloomingdales, where the staff will bring you as many pairs as you want, instead of rolling their eyes; they wouldn't let me give up and when they finally found the perfect jeans we all nearly cried.

theyoungvisiter · 09/09/2011 20:39

wow lots of votes for Paige and Seven here.

I can feel a sweaty trip to Selfridges is coming on....

update for anyone still interested! Grin

I went to liberty's and bought... Paige.

They are super flattering and I love them already. Although the sales person did badger me into getting a size smaller than I wanted, as he swore they would stretch.

OP posts:
BeeBread · 03/10/2011 19:50

I was about to suggest Paige too and see that you beat me to it! They will stretch, but not crazily.

Also like Goldsign for a great combo of flattery and stretchiness/comfort. And they feel like velvet to the touch.
