Last time you had deep outfit-envy of someone, what was she wearing?

At a birthday party this weekend, one of the mums was wearing a ditsy print floral playsuit with wedge sandals - never in a million years could i carry that off but she looked so stylish that I was virtually following her round for an ogle.. I usually get this same awestruck feeing with those girls who work the expensive camel and blonde-highlights look... What outfits make you style-envious?

I work with a (lovely) woman who is just effortlessly sylish no matter what she wears. Jeans and white T shirt, but with high heels and a fab chunky necklace, simple jersey dress with amazing boots and scarf, almost anything she wears just looks...finished, well put together, stylish. Hummph.

I saw a very glamorous young woman wearing skinny jeans, heels (& matching bag), t-shirt and blazer/jacket and she looked great. Nice hair and make up too. All simple but I envied her. Mind you, she was also taller than me and slimmer than me, so maybe that explains some of my Envy. Oh, think she was younger than me too! Grin.

A girl in Asda had some really comfy-looking pyjamas on.

I can't remember the last time I looked at someone and thought, she looks really great in what she has on

Most women look a bloody mess

musttidyupmusttidyup · 22/08/2011 21:19

Maxi dresses don't suit me. I look like a fat 9 year old in a party dress.

cyb · 22/08/2011 21:20

maxi dresses dont suit anyone IMO

Georgimama · 22/08/2011 21:22

Catherine Middleton.

A wedding dress.

pamplemousserose · 22/08/2011 21:22

Romola Garai in the hour. Her whole wardrobe.

Camel and blonde highlights

I couldn't work out what you meant here...do you mean their highlights are blonde and camel-coloured, or they're wearing camel and have blonde highlights?

wannabefree · 22/08/2011 21:50

I know what you mean, cyb.

That's why I love coming on the style and beauty section. Most people don't seem that interested in style.

Sushibo · 22/08/2011 22:04

Yes, sort of toning camel/nude shade clothes, usually some sort of layered garments which I can't work out (got to be able to afford/organise self for dry cleaning/not have kids probably) and then thoe really expensive looking multi-tonal blonde highlights.... although an actual camel would also be impressive....

The people I admire the most are those who don't spend in the higher end shops, but still look great. My SIL buys her clothes in New Look, Dotty P etc and always looks perfect.

gapants · 22/08/2011 22:09

Me in the mirror!

Seriously though, I am 7m pregnant and am loving my shape, my thick glossy hair and my flawless skin. Confidence like that should be bottled for when my hair starts to fall out, my bump is a saggy empty vessel and I look like death warmed over.

wannabefree · 22/08/2011 22:12

Good for you, gapants, I remember that feeling! Smile

Gingefringe · 22/08/2011 22:19

I've never seen anyone look smart on a camel.
Mind you I did see someone fall off a camel once when it was trying to stand up and it looked very painful. Confused

NasalCoffeeEnema · 22/08/2011 22:24

I rewatched the Thomas Crowne affair (2) recently and once again suffered envy of Rene Russo in it

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 22/08/2011 22:31

ergh I can't bear camel clothes. they remind me of support underwear and american tan tights. Then again I am probably one of those women who looks a mess. Grin

gapants · 22/08/2011 22:32

wannabefree thank you

chickenlickin · 23/08/2011 06:52

I saw a woman with really funky coloured patterned tights on with a plain skirt and boots. If I tried it I would look my 4 year old! She looked great!

peggyblackett · 23/08/2011 07:05

YY to Romola Garai in The Hour. That blue dress she wore for the shooting party.....

Apart from that, black M and S Autograph dress worn by a fifty something year old woman Blush

BuckBuckMcFate · 23/08/2011 07:13

Envy: a woman at the museum. Black vest top, black cardi, black tights, black boots, beige skirt, nice jewellery, hair tied up in a way that I have tried, and failed to copy.

Not envy but enjoyment at watching 3 girls who live locally, one who I have known since she was 4 grow up into young women and develop their own style. They all dress differently and each have their own way of dressing, very trendy but not clones of so many other girls. Great confidence too. And IMO they appear to be dressing for themselves not to attract boys. I always hope I spot one of them when I'm out as it makes me feel all nostalgic and positive and motherly towards them Smile

EttiKetti · 23/08/2011 07:27

Anyone who looks good in a bikini :o

Ambernj1 · 23/08/2011 08:22

The other day at the zoo, a woman in white skinnies, a white cami and a tan Hermes belt. She just looked very chic, even though she didn't have a perfect figure (slim but bit of a mum tum). This may be due to the fact any time I try to wear white my toddler smears peanut butter on me but still...

HeavyHeidi · 23/08/2011 10:01

well it was last weekend, we had a training and another instructor was wearing just a bra top and a pair of tiny shorts and had the most amazing abs :o show-off..

Otherwise, a woman on the street had such a gorgeous gray fitted dress that I had to ask where its' from (burberry). Drool...
