Have Had My Hair Cut Short and Dyed Very Red.....Now I Look Old And Worn Out! Help!!!

Had my really long boring lank hair cut off, reeeeally short as it nothing one side and just a bit longer the other and dyed very bright red.

I can't carry it off Sad

I am really skinny and this new haircut makes me look tired and old Sad

I had the re vamp to boost my confidence and it has had the opposite effect.

So how do i look less tired (wrinkled, bags under eyes and pale worn skin)

I think that hairstyle - although cool - is quite hard-looking, and difficult to carry off if you're not 21. I think you need something softer to show your lovely face.

SunnilyEnough · 30/07/2011 20:52

I also think you can carry off grown-up, understated and feminine glam (ie Hollywood, Michelle Williams etc.), and you should be aiming for that more than edgy!

LRDTheFeministDragon · 30/07/2011 20:56

magnolia - I just clicked on this thread as I've just had mine chopped really short and am sitting waiting for the results of a patch test for red dye! But about it going flat - my hairdresser says with short cuts, no-one ever really gets the wax into the hair enough. You can't just rub it into the tips - you have to sort of scrunch it right through the full length, or it won't work. She says people use too little, too near the ends - so it just goes flat again. I dunno if that helps but thought I'd pass it on! When she did mine the other day she was practically giving me a head massage to get the stuff in, but it did work.

SharperSeven · 30/07/2011 21:04

I think you look better without a fringe! I use a Wella product called Pearl Styler, from hairdressers, which gives texture and lift without going flat- my hair is short too.I use it in the morning and it stays for the day, you only need a tiny bit.
Do you wear colour on your lips? I find if I have a really short cut, if I use extra mascars and a touch of liner, and some lip and cheek colour, that I look more balanced.:)

lawnimp · 30/07/2011 21:09

i quite like it

the lighting in the pic is making you look more liney than you are in real life

good for you for being adventurous!

magnolia74 · 30/07/2011 21:15

Well i need botox now then coz i am not losing the fringe until the frown line goes (its a permanent crease not just when i frown Blush )

I don't wear lippy but would if it makes a difference Grin

I look better without a fringe and had botox in the end

magnolia74 · 30/07/2011 21:21

I've seen your threads noddy, just trying to find the money now Smile

You will save a fortune on hairdressers fancy creams and even make up! It is a big initial cost but for me it has been amazing. This second lot is really lasting. I often just put moisturiser and mascara on now and look better than I did before with a big face of slap!It is weird not younger just softer

magnolia74 · 30/07/2011 21:31

Where abouts are you? I'm in surrey so looking for here or london....

This is a gorgeous softer look.

sungirltan · 30/07/2011 23:18

hi op. hmmmm. i think its because you have strong eyebrows and sharp cheekbones so the sharp cut makes you look a bit hard - if that makes sense.

you could get it cut in a more gentle style with some feathery bits around the face to soften it all. i think short crops only work on strong features - which you defintely have but agree with others that its not short enough - get the botox (if you want it) and get rid of the fringe.

also makes usre your make up is really soft too - avoid loads of black eyleiner and hard edges - go for peachy toned blush or bronzer and only warm colours on your eyes like a mid brown. in the pic with you with long hair and a blue top your make up is much softer and warmer - go fro this kind of look but with even less dark eyes.

sungirltan · 30/07/2011 23:19

agree with rolling re that shannon girl - i was thinking natalie imbruglia - and notice neither more much make up with that hair do.

Bourbonchops · 30/07/2011 23:31

You're stunning Magnolia.
I agree about sweeping the fringe sidewards and letting it grow so it will become a softer look.

TattyDevine · 31/07/2011 10:06

You are very attractive Magnolia (god I sound like a pick-up line) don't worry, whatever you decide with hair/botox etc you will be fine. Can't believe you've had 5 kids!!!

gapants · 31/07/2011 10:14

You need to get rid of the fringe! Ages you alot and you are very striking so it is a hard thing to do.

I would go for a more classic cut, something that you could sweep to one side, even just tuck behind your ear <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=shorthairstyles.org.uk/short_hairstyles_pics/short_hairstyles_sienna_miller_02.jpg&imgrefurl=shorthairstyles.org.uk/sienna_miller_short_hairstyle_photos.htm&h=492&w=300&sz=36&tbnid=GG87Z5yss1kN_M:&tbnh=107&tbnw=65&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsienna%2Bmiller%2Bhair%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=sienna+miller+hair&docid=zZeHp05Az0fKNM&sa=X&ei=rBw1Tp73K4WnhAfW7rTxCg&ved=0CB4Q9QEwAQ&dur=399" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> sienna miller and maybe go more golden than red, as the colour does wash you out. Golden/Blondey is way more flattering and literally lightens your face.

gapants · 31/07/2011 10:16

If you are very self conscious about your forehead, make sure that you are waering minimal but perfect eye makeup- concealer, highlighter, mascara, and then go for very glossy lips to focus people attentions down.

Bugger i missed the deleted bit Grin

Thanks for all your input guys Smile

I am now toying with the idea of cutting the other side shorter or growing the fringe a bit and sweeping it (after the botox which I will be having regardless of hairstyle as its something I have wanted for a while now)

I have tried softer make up and it does look ok so just need to find a good lippy Smile

Magnolia, do you like any of the hairstyles we've shown you?
