Loved your long hair but had it all cut off anyway?? Any regrets??

I have long hair, and im bored with it! I do love long hair, but i feel like i have no style, im on my own with 4 kids, so i dont have much time to do anything with it, im lucky though as its nice thick hair with a good natural wave to it so i can easily wear it straight or curly and when i do go out i can do a variety of styles (i used to be a hairdresser so ive got many tricks up my sleeve lol) but i find myself staring at ladies with a lovely straight simple bob and be very tempted! Anyone else had there loved locks chopped??? Did you regret it, or did you LOVE it??

Don't :( I had mine cut from half way down my back, into an inverted bob, the longest front part just touched my collarbone, the back of it was on level with y earlobes.

That was just before Christmas, and whilst I loved it at the time, I soon got sick of having to wash and style it every single morning otherwise it just looked rubbish. I'm sat here now looking at hair extensions because it is at a crap length now and nothing can be done with it really. I really miss having length to play with!

I did what RabidRabbit did a few years ago - 3 years later I now have my long hair back and I feel much more like me again! Don't do it!

If you don't have time to do anything with long hair, then unless you have very compliant hair, it will drive you nuts.

How about having a bit more style cut into it, and look at ways of quickly putting it up

Can I chime in and agree that shorter hairstyles do take up much more time, you have to wash and style them every day (well, that's if you're me. YMMV.*). Long hair is lazy hair most of the time, but still looks fab when you do it properly when the occasion suits

I chopped it off to just above shoulder length 2 years ago because I was just gagging for a change, but TBH I regretted it almost right away. Won't go that short again for a long time.

*YMMV = your mileage may vary... i.e. everybody's experience of a thing is likely to be different

Agree with the above - its soo much easier just being able to scrape hair back if you've not got time to do anything with it - I can't do that now I have a bob :( considering re-growing it, at least a bit.

me too, it was a year agp now I think, it just ghot shorter and shorter, ended up with a half skin head, hated it, it is just growing back a bit now, but I always thought I scrubbed up fairly pretty before, now I feel ugly and middle aged and frumpy. dont do it.

Thanks for your stories im like that right now CYF - gagging for a change, but it seems i have forgotten that short hair is hard work too! I need to find a good hairdresser and get it 'styled'! My friend washes her longish hair and blasts it for 2 minutes with a hairdryer and it looks fab if i do that i genuinley look like ive taken 30,000 volts! Maybe a set of wigs should be considered!.....

She has Weird Hair. Don't listen to her. Just wash it less maybe... is it truly dirty/oily or are you just doing it cause you think you should?

Would kill myself if I ever have really short must-wash-and-dry-every-day-cos-of-bed-hair hair ever again.

hmm, I'm where you are with my barnet. it's long, a bit layered, a bit shapeless and I only ever wear it up. I look at women with really short, edgy crops and get a hankering to lop it all off.

I really regret having mine chopped into a bob. I will be spending the next two years growing it out. :(

I had my waist length hair cut to a bob before christmas, it is now growing out got it below by neck now.

I wouldnt do it again I'd go to a better hairdresser for a different style but keep most of the length

I had very long hair, I cut it to just below my shoulders. Initially it took a bit of getting used to but I loved it. Also my hair grows insanely fast so it doesn't matter too much.

I went for an easy to maintain style otherwise I would have hated it!

Mine is fairly short and i love it. I'll never have long hair again. Long hair is just 'there' and looks boring on me. I wash and straighten it every other day and just run the straighteners on the other day. It doesn't take too long and I'd rather do that than scraping long hair into a ponytail.

I had really long (longer than bra straps) that I cut off after my wedding. Hated it soooooo much. I had it cut into an inverted bob and it was a disaster, without the weight to pull it straight I just resembled Worzel Gummidge [no mocking emoticon]

Spent the 6 years growing it back. Was all one length and just hung there, got sooooo tempted to cut it off again but didn't. Instead I got it layered and messed up into an EMO style with a big sweepy fringe and I LOVE it. Wish I had done it years ago, its just my style! Still nice and long but can be backcombed into mad shapes with the layers, or sleek and smooth

i've got waves/curls and just can't go shorter than shoulder-length without spending all my time avoiding rain, and humidity, and steam...

I'm beginning to think that there are those of us who love long hair and those for whom short works best and that it is difficult to cross over to the other camp.

My compromise was to go the layered choppy route, I have enough length to still be long enough to wear up and do things with but the layers add interest.

I'm a wash and wear girl, always have been and don't see that ever changing. I think the key to retaining long hair is that it must be in good condition - and not have split/bitty ends that just look awful. And dependant upon age, I think long should never be too long. But that's just in general as some can carry very long hair for a very long time.

I loved my long hair - and it was very long - down to my hips at the longest part (V shaped ends ) and I had it cut above shoulder length last year and have not regretted it. My hair is now wavy rather than sort of straightish and isn't 10 year and crispy at the bottom. I get it cut twice a year and it doesn't look terrible between cuts either.

Well I am saying sod it and going for it this week. After having a lot of colour put in my hair recently due to a hairdressers cock up I am going back to my natural dark blonde and having my bra strap length curls cut into a choppy long bob (possibly with a side fringe). I have just bought some GHDs and have a Babyliss big hair so hopefully styling won't be too painful. I am having the bob just long enough to put back.

My hair is naturally curly so I will have to style it but with straight hair that can be done every two days. Hoping that I can wear it like Kristen Wiig does in Bridesmaids for a curly style (may need some tong help there).

Sick of it long now - haven't had it above shoulder length for about 14 years. Just fancy trying something new and if I hate it my hair grows pretty fast so it is no big deal.

Angryfeet - I don't do styling so it's just wash and go (or spritz with Batiste and go ). I do sometimes dry my hair with a diffuser but usually I just towel dry and brush knots out.

Takes 2 mins to wash 2 mins to dry. I sometimes forget that I don't have long hair anymore but I don't regret it - everyone has long hair. And besides, everytime I leave my hairdresser I look like I've had my hair cut and I get a real buzz from it. PLus its an excuse to have it done evry 6 weeks

My hair goes up and down like a bleeding yo yo. Fortunately it grows about an inch a month (not even joking). However I had it cut from almost waist length to a chic, expensive, beautiful blonde short bob in January. Everyone loved it. I loved it for about a fortnight. It simply wasn't me. I'm sort of vintagely untidy, all battered silver jewellery and old fur coats, and I had this ridiculous sort of French banker-lady do. I am now frantically growing it again; it should be respectably long by Christmas.

The thing with a proper hairstyle is that it's an unholy ache in the hole to look after - and unless you're prepared to put endless time and effort it in always looks the same. Long hair can be a chignon, a messy up do, a Kate Middleton half-up, down and sleek, down and untidy, a pony-tail...whatever suits really.

Gah! Now I am in mourning for my hair!

Someone remind me that the next time I get sick of my long hair, a trim, some layers and some highlights will be quite sufficient, and there is no need to lop a foot of the stuff off
