Oil cleansing method - I have questions!

OK, started this about three weeks ago, am using 1/5 castor oil with 4/5 olive oil and a few drops jojoba oil.
I really like it, my skin does look brighter, but in the last few days I've come up with two big spots, one near my hair line, and one on my jawline, and this morning, seven little spots on my chin.
I think it's because I'm not cleansing the oil off properly, but I can't figure out how to if I'm just using water, as water doesn't clean oil.
Any advice, as I say, I like the OCM, but don't want spots!

I like the Origins oil cleanser but it's bloody expensive as it does feel like the oil is removed once you've done the cleansing. . .

I've read about pure coconut oil is a great cleanser (and cheap) but I'm a chicken and haven't tried. I worry about spots so am still fence-sitting until I hear more. Shall we have tea and cake whilst we wait?

are you using a flannel or muslin cloth with hot water???? that is key
and I was the one that wrote about the coconut oil :)
why dont you just use the jojoba alone? or jojoba mixed with sweet almond?
I personally hate castor oil and find olive too heavy....

I am using a flannel with hot water, yes.
Didn't know I could just use jojoba oil alone, agree that the olive oil seems too heavy.
Is there something else I should be doing other than holding the hot water flannel to my face. It just doesn't feel cleeeeeeeen when I've finished!

I have questions too! Do you do it in the morning as well as night? How long do you leave it before you can put make up on? Do you need moisturiser?

Hold over your face, then rub softly in small circular motions as this gently exfoliates the dead skin. Perhaps rinse your face with the flannel more than once - this should remove excess oil.

I only do it at night (combo skin). If I use it in the day, my make up slides off a bit and even though I use SPF 50 tinted sunscreen, I do feel that I'm more sensitive when using oil in the day.

I thought jojoba oil was for moisturising after cleansing.

I've been using it at night on clean skin as a moisturiser.

I am so confused

I have a question also. It says you shouldnt do it everyday/night but a few times a week. So on the days you dont what are you supposed to use? If you go back to your cleanser wont that upset the ph balance!!! I wear make up everyday so its not like i can just use water

This happened to me when I started OCM about 5 months ago. My skin calmed down again and is now lovely and silky and clear. I think you go through a purge stage when starting with it, and then thorough removal is key or you do get spotty.

Castor oil is a good cleanser but you only need a few drops of it in your oil mix as it's so viscous and can actually be drying to your skin. Olive oil is good but heavy. Make jojoba oil the main oil in your mix :)

I used cotton wool soaked in warm (not hot) water and hold it on, then rub gently to remove the oil. 2 cotton wool squares used both sides are usually enough.

Don't put coconut oil on your face! It's a comedogenic which means it blocks your pores. Good on your body and hair though (and to eat!)

I use OCM at night to remove make up, and finish with a tiny amount of jojoba oil, well rubbed in. I just splash with water in the morning and then use an SPF moisturiser.

DD has come out in a few pimples which is extremely unusual for her since we started the ocm. I think i may stop using extra v olive oil and switch to almond oil, its not as heavy.

I'm waiting on some avocado oil arriving in the post after reading a thread about it here. S&B encourages me to fritter money away invest in good skin care :o

glad you liked the almond oil, either this or jojoba are both brilliant for eye make up removal, as well as OCM.
re the flannel/muslin, yes hot water and rub, not just hold on face
and yes you can use either or both oils as moisturisers as well as cleansers
enjoy! (as well as the avocado oil as per the other thread)

But but but missfoodie how can it cleanse as well as moisturise? They're two different things, no? This is why I'm getting so confused I think - I thought some oils were fro cleansing and some for replenishing.

I only use a tiny amount of jojoba oil to moisturise, and I rub it in thoroughly. When you cleanse you use a lot more then remove it, and aren't trying to rub it in, as such.

no, it's just that the oils all have different "weights", so suit some skins differently - generally, whichever suits you will work for you well as a cleanser and/or as a moisturiser.
EG I love Jojoba, rosehip, avocado, coconut...but sunflower, olive, wheatgerm not so much; having said that, some of the face oils I use contain the latter, just in small proportions; I wouldn't use them as a cleanser, but it just depends on your skin/preference.
If you've tried the sweet almond and like it, then stick with it! or use jojoba for eyes and sweet almond for face?
