Ooh - I've just learnt how to thread - and it's berluddy brilliant!

I've never had threading done before and had run out of wax and thought I'd give threading a go so looked up some tutorials on youtube and thought it looked pretty straightforward.

It's bloody brilliant - it took about 10 mins to get the hang of it (I might get some thinner cotton) and then I was off - 'tache is no more and I discovered fluff where I never knew it existed - why didn't my friends tell me about my bumfluff side burns :o

Anyway - I had to come and post about how easy it was before I threaded my entire face off as it's scarily addictive :o

Good for you! I once tried to learn by looking on youtube but it looked too hard so I didn't even get some cotton out. Hmmm maybe I'll have another go

I found that I needed a smaller loop of thread - probably about the width of my hands together - any longer and I felt that I didn't have enough control over the thread - perhaps as you get more proficient you can have a longer piece of thread?

I've had threading done before and been pleased with the results but didn't think I'd be able to do it myself. I've had a look at the video & it looks so easy I'm tempted to get the cotton out! Just had a glass of wine though so maybe it would be better to wait .... unless it would deaden any pain ...

yy off to find some cotton, but mine could do with a proper shaping again, so I'm worried about... you know, taking off my eyebrow

Yes - report back hadagutfull.

I did my top lip, then chin, then sideburns, then had a go at tidying up my eye brows. I'd only recently plucked them but threading did really tidy them up - and picked up lots of little hairs I didn't know were there.

My top tip is to work in towards the middle of your face - so you are threading into the growth of the hair iyswim.

And it wasn't particularly painful either - had heard about it making your eyes water and it really wasn't anything like that.

Alright, I had a go!
It took me about 3 pieces of string until I finally managed to 'get' it, I needed much smaller than I was initially using - v small piece of thread.
I found the biggest problem I had was twisting my hands around to move the thread in a different direction iykwim, when I should have just been... well, moving my hands, not twisting them and the string. My right eyebrow was more difficult and I still didn't quite get it, I don't know what I was doing wrong but it felt quite strange to pull the thread > that way for the left iykwim, so I just tried threading the right >> this way like I did the left, and it did hurt eye-wateringly, though the left eyebrow didn't.
The knot I tied in initially was moving about (to do with the twisting hands?) and that caused a bit of trouble, so I just got a new piece of thread rather than try and sort all the knots out. I definitely didn't need 7 twists, I used 4 and found it a bit easier.

I take my hat off to you blabala - all this time and I only managed to remove about 4 eyebrows! And they were long ones from the top of my brow if you know what I mean. How on earth do you get the little ones?

I managed to get the cotton a length that felt controllable, and practised moving the knots back & forward, but applying that to my face was another matter! Tried to have a go at my tache and chin but failed miserably, I just couldn't get the cotton to go the right way to grip the hairs! Think maybe I will try again tomorrow before I have any wine. DS was staring at me the other day and then said "Whoa! You've got a shit load of hair on your face!" Nice .... but true, sadly. I've been removing hair since I was about 12 years old but now I'm a lady of a certain age it seems a never ending battle.

Off to pour another glass of wine and resume trying again tomorrow.

You did better than me iEmbarrassed! I know what you mean about twisting your hands, I was getting in a right mess. Even managed to get my hair caught up in it somehow at some point! Maybe practice makes perfect ...

well done for both giving it a go - perhaps it depends on the thickness of the cotton. The cotton I was using was quite thick - although I thought I'd try a thinner cotton next time.

I did find it a bit tricky at first working out which way my hands went - I found it much easier doing my right hand side of my face - I'm right handed so perhaps that made a difference.

I didn't aim for any particular hairs - just threaded all over the area and it seemed to pick up lots of invisible ones as well as the darker ones that I could see.

I think perhaps it must be to do with how close you hold the thread to the skin. I think I had it about a mm above my skin so just above it so catch all the smaller hairs.

Will definitely try again tomorrow blabala - thanks for the diagram. I tried sticking my tongue under my lip but i did use my epicare thingy his morning so maybe I need to wait a day or two. Love the bikini waxing comment - have just snorted my wine over it! Out of the mouths of babes eh?

Thank you OP! Your video was much better than various ones I looked at.

I took to it quite well actually the only thing I would say is my cotton doesn't "glide" well - it has a slight tendencey to sort of catch or drag on itself (the point where the twists are moving against each other) - I probably just need better cotton!

I had my actual eyebrows threaded the other day by a proper Indian lady so I've been doing my tache instead (which isn't really a tache but there are little golden hairs there which aren't bad enough to pay to get done but good enough to practice on!)

Blimey - that's impressive! I've just had a go on my tache, and it was fine - bit of redness, but not too much. But I'll leave doing more for an evening, when it's got overnight to calm down. Thank you for that link - I've never had anything threaded, and I'm still not sure about doing my eyebrows, but I'm definitely going to be able to do the rest of my face [bearded lady emoticon].

Brilliant - glad some more of you have had a go too

Lowlevel - have you tried doing it on your cheek or other flat surface to get the hand of it - try your thigh for practice? How many twists have you done? Perhaps if you have less twists it might glide more easily?

I don't think you are over-reacting - it will actually change my life - so easy and quick to do - and no more faffing about with wax, trying to book appts at the beauticians etc.

Tatty - my cotton doesn't glide particularly well either - the only cotton we had in the house was more of a darning thread so I used that instead of waiting patiently til the shops opened to buy some more :o

Jackie - I reckon once you get the hang of it you'll easily be able to do your eyebrows.

I did 8 twists, I'll try 6 and practice on my hairy thighs.

Blabala - it's not that I can't, I reckon I could in theory do it, but I'd be worried about taking too much off, and ending up with nothing/bald patches/strange shape . I reckon a professional would do a better job of shaping them, but once they'd been shaped, I reckon I could keep them in trim after that.
