Perfume for a teenager

plainwhitet · 21/05/2011 18:08

can anyone suggest a lovely, light perfume for a teenager? My dd wants me to choose one for her, for her 15th birthday and I have no idea where to start. As all I have worn for the last few years is Clarins red bottle one whose name I cannot even remember, I am not a particularly good role model here ...

There's one by Marc Jacob called Daisy which has a nice bottle...not sure about the smell!!

pointydog · 21/05/2011 18:28

Benefit has a range out which is popular with my 14 yr old. Have a sniff of them. I can't remember which two we have in the house.

Also, that green one in an apple shaped bottle. Delicious, I think.

BulletWithAName · 21/05/2011 18:39

Harajuku Lovers by Gwen Stefani come in an awesome bottle and they smell rather nice too!

dexter73 · 21/05/2011 19:32

My dd (14) has DKNY Be Delicious.

Asinine · 21/05/2011 19:33

Have just bought Kate moss from amazon as good reviews for dd13

Cattleprod · 21/05/2011 19:35

I like the Avril Lavigne one. I think it's called Black Star? CK1 also nice.

usualsuspect · 21/05/2011 19:36

I was just going to suggest CK1

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 21/05/2011 19:59

DD1 uses the Kate Moss ones but aspires to Chanel!

The Gewn Stefani ones are VERY strong - not nice imho although the bottles are cute.

Hail fellow lover of the red Clarins one btw.

Oh if you are rich, Naughty Alice by Vivienne Westwood is lovely - dd1 yearns for that too but won't be getting it!

enidroach · 21/05/2011 20:10

My 18 year old DD wears DKNY Be Delicious - green apple
MIss Dior Cherie and also Daisy by Marc jacobs

She has also worn Ghost (blue original one) which I didn't like

My 15 year old wears Cherry blossom by L'occitane which is beautiful and light

A lot of her friends wear Light Blue by Dolce and Gabanna which is sort of strawberry and grapefruit and clean smelling

I bought my DD a coffret of mini dior perfumes a few years back which she loved (not great value per ml but meant she had a variety)

sue52 · 21/05/2011 20:38

Benefit do a nice range of perfumes which are all stylishly packaged. DD's favourite is Carmella.

plymouthmaid · 21/05/2011 23:25

My 13 year old DD loves Touch of Pink.

midori1999 · 21/05/2011 23:30

I've got the Marc Jacobs 'Daisy' one. My DH bought it for me as the sales woman told him it was all the rage. My teenage stepdaughter recognised it and said all her friends had it, so I suspect it is 'all the rage' with teenagers. Grin

brighthair · 21/05/2011 23:44

Paul Smith is nice - the original in striped bottle and also the Floral one

I like citrus perfumes, and wear DKNY original and everyone always comments on it

goes to consult perfume shelf

Gucci Envy and Gucci Rush 2 are nice and Marc Jacobs Splash range

oh and Soap and Glory perfume - only £15 ish but really lovely

Can you go to a shop and have a sniff with her to get an idea of what she likes?
Selfridges have some fantastic individual perfumes which are nice if you want something different - the Jo Malone counter is great for smelling!

wanders out of thread muttering " brighthair does not have perfume addiction"

i used to love amor amor when i was a teen, it's not cheap, but it's not as expensive as some others.

teafortwo · 22/05/2011 00:25

OK - first thoughts...

Cacharel Anais Anais for a romantic, dreamy, arty girl.

Tommy girl for a fun loving sporty and practical lass.

Coco Mademoiselle for a thin and tall sophisticated Sloane ranger wannabe with floppy hair.

Bodyshop's White Musk for a simply styled and naturally lovely girl.

Alien - for a punky and rebelious but underneath very sweet and sensitive young woman.

strawberrymewmew · 22/05/2011 00:30

I love the Ed Hardy perfume(and it's in an awesome bottle).
And Insolence by Guerlain. Smells so pretty.

Also, I'm only 20. :o

NotaMopsa · 22/05/2011 00:30

i wouldn't do it
scent of teen pervades and taints even the sweetest smell
you will soon loathe it ...oozing from the teen room along with sullen -ness and self righteousness!

teafortwo · 22/05/2011 00:34

onebadasp... Amor Amor... you're right - some 15 year olds are ready to have a heavier sexy scent - Let me add - Amor Amor for the school 'it girls' who are clever and beautiful and picked up at the school gates by older handsome men in sports cars.

teafortwo · 22/05/2011 00:41

strawberry - I have a terrible Guerlain perfume addiction but thought their scents are too refined iyswim for a fifteen year old... I was thinking of suggesting l'instant do you think I should or does it smell pretty Granny-like to your young nose??? Grin

teafortwo · 22/05/2011 00:45
strawberrymewmew · 22/05/2011 00:54

Tea Not sure I know that one. Confused

Mind you even with my young nose, my favourite perfume is Chanel No5. Would never have suggested it though as that does have a more, adult smell.

Another of my favourites is L'ancome Magnifique, but that does have a strong smell. :o

animula · 22/05/2011 01:01

plainwhitet - are you London-based?

Benefit does seem to be a popular teenage choice. The other thing I was thinking was of the "Les Nereides" eau de toilettes. they have the virtue of being cheaper than most (though they are just toilettes) and a bit unusual (owing to being sold in the two London shops).

They are a lot like the sort of cheapish perfumes teenagers through the ages have spent their pocket money on, so it won't hurt her pocket if she wants to stick with it. But they are also unusual enough to be a bit "birthday-present"-ish.

"Vanilla douce", the pathchouli one (no - it isn't like your usual patchouli) and the oppoponax one are nice.

teafortwo · 22/05/2011 01:19

Oh yes - chanel number five is too too lovely and sexy and knowing... if my daughter wore that at fifteen I would be on panic mode!!!!

I am in my thirties and am yet to feel experienced or sophisticated enough to pull off wearing Chanel no. 5 with the exceptionally high level of pure self confidence the scent simply demands of it's wearer.

teafortwo · 22/05/2011 01:25

strawberrymewmew - IMVHO to know l'instant is to love it. Go and spray it all over yourself in Boots next time you can... and tell me what you think?

DontHassleTheBOF · 22/05/2011 01:36

My 15 year old likes Calvin Klein's Eternity Moment. It's fresh but substantial, if that makes any sense Grin
