what is the most coveted handbag right now?

My sister is 40 this year and loves handbags. I thought it might be nice to buy her a fancy handbag as a birthday present. I will go in with my sister and my dad and hopefully my brother so looking to spend about £250. What do you reckon? This is after all the fountain of knowledge...!!

It really depends on what your sister likes. Leather/plastic/other skin/prints

Does she like 'designer' bags? Or is she happy with a bag from TK Maxx? They do some nice bags in various styles and materials.

I'd like to go for leather, something that will last. She buys quite a lot for herself! But never that expensive that is why I wanted to find something 'posh'...! What bag have you got Jax?? I have a gorgeous J&M Davidson one but that is a bit beyond out price range...

I just bought this yesterday. And I cannot describe in words how soft it is! I have had my eye on this Mulberry for ages. But could never bring myself to buy it. I now know that it is because I wasn't actually that into it. But I just fell in love with the Jigsaw bag yesterday...would definitely recommend that you give it a look.
And that is a fab birthday pressie too!

I have many handbags. I darent count them because then it will be 'real'.

To list a few; I have 2 Mulberry in Tan and brown and a DKNY in Chocolate leather, a Fenn, Wright Manson in Black leather. I also have a LV in a creamy beige patent style, but dont use it v often.

A suede Black & Silver a suede Purple, a large red leather 'bucket' bag.

you see the problem? I fancy an Anya Hindmarsh bag but the bits of gold 'blingy' bits put me off a bit.

Mulberry Tillie is very on trend now, but if you want something more classic go for a bayswater.

I have bought bags from Peony & Moore, I saw this one in RED magazine in Feb and bought it, its super soft grainy leather. I've been really pleased with it...

Tiffany have a new tote out though have a feeling its a bit more that £250. Comes in some gorgeous colours.

The Tiffany reversible tote bag is £305 for the small size and £460 for the large size, and comes in 6 colours. I bought one last week but I cant really afford it

dancergirl the Lucia is not huge, but its not tiny iykwim. It sits under my shoulder and has slightly longer straps so fits over every coat i own..which I like. The sides are adjustable, so you can let them out when you've got loads of crap essentials for the day, and I then make it smaller when its just my phone, lippy and diary etc.... I love it, as it has pockets. I like pockets and zips and places to hide store things..

OP, of all of them, I think the Lucia is the best. I ahve serious bag envy. Just my opinion!

madamme I dont buy bags for the name, I buy them because I like the look of them, it just so happens that I have expensive taste.

Not liking the bag whore tag, that isnt very nice is it? Could it be jealousy?

I love the Anna bag, the tan colour is beautiful. I have a Celine Nautil bag which I use daily in tan, so can't excuse it but have been eyeing it up.

Have you considered an oversized clutch? I have a Marc by Marc Jacobs black leather clutch with a bow and gold clip that I think was around £220. I use it a lot during the day as well as being a fab going out bag. I've had it for a couple of years and it still looks modern. Just another idea, but I suspect you're prob right going for timeless classic.
