My sister is 40 this year and loves handbags. I thought it might be nice to buy her a fancy handbag as a birthday present. I will go in with my sister and my dad and hopefully my brother so looking to spend about £250. What do you reckon? This is after all the fountain of knowledge...!!

I am not liking the Mulberry Tillie. Its too blingy and the third eye in the middle!!!!!!!! whats that about.

madammecholet · 12/05/2011 07:56

chipstick I am glad I am not the only one who dislikes the Tillie, it looks childish somehow, not something a grown women would want to carry about. I am also left cold by the new Taylor satchel...Confused

Op, which bag are you liking??

JaxTellersOldLady · 12/05/2011 08:01

I hate the way they describe them "oodles of new..." "perfect for work or play" I think that is what makes it child like.

poncy knobheads in advertising and marketing!

madammecholet · 12/05/2011 14:19

LOL jax

brookeslay · 12/05/2011 15:37

madammecholet you coined that phrase I wondered whether there was a word that was bag lover as make up lover are called junkees i thought that might be called bag sluts as that word isnt taken yet ! It was meant to be a joke.

hey ho !

madammecholet · 12/05/2011 15:58

brookeslay I've been called a bag whore by many many people....Grin don't worry, I was not referring to our conversation...

brookeslay · 12/05/2011 16:21

okay was worried Confused

Dancergirl · 12/05/2011 22:47

After all this bag talk I have been to Westfield tonight. Looked in Mulberry and decided I don't really like after all the Tillie or the Alexa.

But I loved the LK Bennett one (the smaller one though at £245) and still really like the Lucia bag.

I like the L K Bernnett Annina bag - the smaller, zipped version of the Anna - you can see it on madamecholet's link. Hard to decide which colour I like best.

Have the Modalu Bristol on order because I've been searching for a good grey bag with outside pocket/s for ages. Hasn't arrived yet, so don't know if it will fill the bill.

Anya hindmarch maeve tote bag in pink. Only £195.00. It comes in other colours but the Pink is the one I am considering.

keep · 13/05/2011 16:31

Apologies, my last post was wrong price. It's £395.00 and is the embossed bow one with tassel. I am flitting back and forth looking at bags.

carciofi · 13/05/2011 17:13

Keep, I like the pink Maeve tote too. I keep saving for it but then blowing the money on other things.

madammecholet · 13/05/2011 17:22

keep & carciofi I like the anya tote, i've had my eyes on this celine block colour one:

<a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=www.salerehab.com/uploads/3/5/6/5/3565998/1330593.jpg%3F279&imgrefurl=www.salerehab.com/1/post/2011/02/celine-tote-swap.html&usg=__BstggMS48g4_5TYjCz7sAYuVRdM=&h=209&w=278&sz=5&hl=en&start=0&sig2=ShntIzM420z0C9gcSDsAJA&zoom=1&tbnid=Lsk7Xv1MTkinkM:&tbnh=144&tbnw=179&ei=GlrNTdmaOsmo8AOcl8DmDQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dceline%2Bblock%2Bcolour%2Btote%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3DiJb%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26biw%3D1267%26bih%3D622%26tbm%3Disch&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=351&page=1&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:0&tx=88&ty=93" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">celine block colour tote - but its £700!!!

but then I saw this:

cheaper tote

I'm just not sure, would you use leather tote all the time, ie, on the beach/shopping or would you end up being precious with it and not actually using it at all??

carciofi · 13/05/2011 19:53

The Peony and Moore tote is lovely. I wouldn't use it on the beach but definitely everywhere else!

Coccinelle also do great bags.

madammecholet · 13/05/2011 20:59

ooh will google carciofi...Smile

keep · 13/05/2011 21:39

I like the block totes. I've never seen a Radley bag I liked then then I spied one on a woman whilst out shopping and found the name online. It's St austell in red which is a tote with short handles and a long one.

When I got it I couldn't decide whether I did like it or not! It's never been carried and relegated into storage. I do love tote bags though and if I sell the st austell on ebay I could put the money towards the AH Pink Maeve one. I'm annoyed that I misread the price as my spending mega bucks on bags days are over due to the children so £200/250 is my limit.

madammecholet · 14/05/2011 19:16

Radley are my pet hate. What's with the frickin' dog? I love bags, no, I ADORE bags, but I really detest all the radley bags....blurgh..ebay it keep!

polyhymnia · 15/05/2011 00:00

Me too - can't really explain it but they really turn me off.

ManicAnnie · 15/05/2011 09:02

That LK Anna is gorgeous.

poorbuthappy · 15/05/2011 09:14

I called my sister a bag whore once, just after she'd bought a mulberry (can't remember which 1), and yes it was jealously which made me say it! Grin

madammecholet · 15/05/2011 15:15

I'd call her names too if she bought a Mulberry for herself and not you. Envy

polyhymnia · 16/05/2011 12:09

Just to report back - my two grey Modalu bags arrived. Formerly known as Bristol, I see they have now renamed the style the Pippa (oh, well...). I ordered them not because I'm a slavish royal-watcher, but because I'd been looking for a nice grey bag with outside pockets and a detachable strap.

Anyway, am delighted with them. Ordered a medium and a small, and decided to keep the small in 'Shark':

www.modalu.com/product/bristol-small-grab-bag-1?colour=tan

because I wanted a reasonable-sized everyday bag, not a 'brief-case' type one to carry lots of papers, laptop, etc. If you did want that, the 'medium' (ie, the one originally pictured with Pippa) would be great - it has massess of compartments, pockets, etc yet looks elegant. Would be good for work. The small is not too small, though. It also has several pockets and plenty of room for a book.

Definitely going to keep my eye on this brand, as the prices, whilst not cheap, are not 'It' bag, or as high as most Russell and Bromley bags, but, on the evidence of this style, the design is good - stylish, not too bling, would go with casual and smart clothes - as is the quality.

madammecholet · 16/05/2011 19:18

Well done polyhymnia it looks really lovely.......hilarious that they changed the name - but who wouldn't?!!

Ambernj1 · 16/05/2011 21:12

I too bought the Modalu Bristol in Shark just yesterday, but got the medium cos I need to carry loads of crap very important stuff! I love it, has usurped my Mulberries as hot favourite at the moment...
