8?

I'm really really bored of i). feeling like a freak of foot in shoe shops ii). not being able to wear pretty shoes in my size 9 and iii). having to shell out ££££ more for a larger size.

Gah.

I feel your pain, either I went up from a 7.5 to an 8.5ish after pregnancy or sizes have got smaller!
Buying summer shoes is suddenly a nightmare. Winter's fine, I can live in my Uggs and Converse but am struggling to find sandals and wedges that fit well.

KateMiddletonsMum · 10/05/2011 17:13

My feet are 8.5, I live in flip-flops in summer (the ipanema ones from cheapy shoeshops are lovely, comfy, colourful and trendy) and hush puppie boots in winter.
Rocketdog boots are also a good size, but schuh boots labelled as 8 are a 7.5!! The best boots I ever bought were from ASOS in the sale, sadly they are now relegated to gardening boots as the suede wore off after a year.

madammecholet · 10/05/2011 17:25

I am soooo with you. I am a size 42, 8 in some shops, 9 in others. It drives me potty. Duo does some nice shoes, although some a bit grannyish too. I buy cheap ones from Next and Big Shoe Boutique, but they're normally crap and don't last.

Jones the bootmaker stock bigger sizes, bought the best pair of winter boots last year from them.

But I struggle....generally.

madammecholet · 10/05/2011 17:27

here is a prime example of crapness. A new online etailer and retailer of after 8 shoes.

Oh yes! I cried when I saw the store open. Sadly, I was still crying when I left the shop:

after8

I mean, just shit. I am not a granny, I have taste, I have style....and for gods sake I HAVE FEELINGS!Angry

ExpatAgain · 10/05/2011 17:32

poor you - can relate as i@m tall and therefore have to put up with the crapness (and lack of value for money) that is Long Tall Sally! Unfashionable, badly made, overpriced crap anyone?? and yet most stores do petite ranges... grrrh..

madammecholet · 10/05/2011 17:39

LTS is hilarious. WHO is their demographic???? WHO Knows? They don't.

Hulababy · 10/05/2011 17:40

Probably the same person who decided that women's feet only start at a size 3, and in many shops a size 4.

I am only just a size 3, in some shops a 3 is too big.

The alternative is children's shoes - but that really isn't ideal for going out wear!

wildfig · 10/05/2011 20:09

It's a monumental pain. M&S is so embarrassed by the nation of Big Foot women that they only seem to stock 1 pair of size 42s in any given style. I emailed them once to ask why they didn't stock as many 8s in store or on line, and the Customer Service response was 'because we don't sell many'. I pointed out if they'd had some in stock I'd have bought them, as would the other three women next to me in Marble Arch searching fruitlessly for a 41.5 or 42.

Am also annoyed by Carvela/Kurt Geiger's 'size 8' actually being a small 7.

When I die, some glamorous transvestite is going to have a field day with my collection of enormous designer stilettos...

TooManyBlossoms · 10/05/2011 20:11

I have the same problem with poor dd (13). She's a size 9 already, I'm hoping and praying her feet don't grow much more!

OmicronPersei8 · 10/05/2011 20:16

I walk in to shoe shops, ask which (if any) shoes they have in a size 9, then try not to look at all the pretty shoes available in smaller sizes.

I used to go to a shoe shop in Hammersmith which had a policy of stocking every single line in size 9s. It was wonderful. Smile

Carlywurly, for summer birkenstocks are pretty good.

My sil has size 13 feet. She struggles to get any shoes to fit.

woowa · 10/05/2011 20:20

madamecholet, rofl, Long Tall Sally not knowing who their demographic is!! They are the worst shop I have ever had the displeasure of HAVING to buy clothes from!! Rubbish quality, bad fit, horrible design, poor stitching. Glad to know their shoes are similar. I cannot understand why they don't just sell themselves to Boden, or some other place, and get Boden or whoever to make their clothes in LTS sizes, instead of producing utter rubbish.

Sorry OP, hijacked you. Just makes me so cross!

SpeedyGonzalez · 10/05/2011 20:26

Another 8.5 here. Huge sympathy. Have you tried Next online, or searching hard through the Ecco website - they usually have about one gem among all the horrific frumpery.

Birkies, of course, are a godsend.

Omicron, is that Hammersmith shop still there?

WinkyWinkola · 10/05/2011 20:27

LTS are rubbish.

SpeedyGonzalez · 10/05/2011 20:28

Oh, and Clarks usually do some styles in 9, as do Office and Amazon shoe shops so you might possibly find something you like there.

BunnyWunny · 10/05/2011 20:32

shoegalfi.blogspot.com/2011/05/outfit-shoeper-challenge-47-and-cropped.html Check out my friends blog- she has size 9 feet and is shoe mad. he will have tips on here of where to find large shoes.

carlywurly · 10/05/2011 20:34

There are so many of us! And I know lots of people in RL too. Our M&S is exactly the same for 8's - it's infuriating and I rarely go there now.

White Stuff have come up trumps with a couple of pairs of sandals in a big 8, and I've found some in Jones where size 42 is apparently a 9!

Kurt Geiger, Nine West and the like tend to come up really small. Next can be a bit hit and miss too, but at least there is the option to go up to a 9.

accessorizequeen · 10/05/2011 21:37

Ooh, didn't know white stuff did big 8's, shall have a look. Joules 8 is a 42 if that's any help to anyone. I have a few pairs of El Naturalista shoes which are funky and comfy. I'm a 42/43 and they fit beautifully. Unfortunately £££ or I'd have more pairs. Fitflops come in 9 although only a few styles not the pretty new flower sandals. It is extremely frustrating and I've pretty much given up lately. I can't wear anything flat as I have foot/hip probs so that rules out a lot of what's available in a 9.

Maybeitsbecause · 10/05/2011 21:44

I was a 41 until having kids, but am now a 42. It is a fucking pain.

WinkyWinkola · 10/05/2011 23:25

42 is not a 9.

OP posts:
RobynLou · 10/05/2011 23:28

I have so many shoes that are too small for me because I just needed a pair of shoes and gave up finding ones that fit.
it's a pita.

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 10/05/2011 23:32

If your feet are wide then Evans are great. You might find yourself going down a shoe size. They go up to 10, 11 in selected styles.

piprabbit · 10/05/2011 23:33

Viva La Diva has quite a lot of larger sizes...but suffers from the problem of trying to pick out the odd gem from the rest.
