Does anyone get a lovely brown face and arms with self tan but orange legs?

I am using Johnsons Holiday Skin atm but have found it with other brands, despite my face and arms going a gorgeous tanned colour my legs always go orangey! Does anyone else have this problem? Any solutions (I already exfoliate etc)

TIA

Lurking for solutions.... Smile

Yes yes yes!! Stripy legs :-( !! I am now trying a traditional fake tan rather than the gradual tanner to see if that makes a difference.
AlwaYs use San Tropez and have actually just bought their exfoliator called 'polish' to see if it helps.

MarmadukeMarmalade · 07/05/2011 09:01

Yes!! and me I'm using Johnsons Holiday Skin too, it wasn't like this when I used it last year so I'm wondering if they've changed the formula.

The3Bears · 07/05/2011 09:19

Mine do this with the Johnsons holiday skin one, but with st tropez moose with the mitt they're fine and if you put the moose on the mitt first then rub in it isnt too dark and blends beautifully :)

AuntieMaggie · 08/05/2011 15:08

well my arms and face are a lovely tanned colour, but despite using gradual tanner and fake tan on my legs they're still white!!!

wendihouse22 · 08/05/2011 22:22

This is very strange!!

I'm the other way around.....my legs arems and decollete go a lovely honey tanned colour and my face and tummy stay white.

What's it all about?

Oh, and my feet go stripey but that's cause I'm hopeless at doing my feet.

HouseOfBamboo · 08/05/2011 22:27

I think fake tan looks better against skin that is already leathery seasoned by the sun, as face and arms tend to be.

It's pretty shit on milk bottle legs though, hence the orange glow.

wendihouse22 · 09/05/2011 10:52

You may have something there....being hypersensitive to the sun (spent one Greek island holiday as a twenty something, stuck in the hotel, coverved in natural yoghurt and needing hydrocortisone injections to de-swellme!!) I've had to stay out of the sun or wear 50+ cream ALL MY LIFE. Without the self tan I AM permanently pale.

AuntieMaggie · 09/05/2011 13:00

well it took 3 applications of tan yesterday and I finally have a light glow to my legs!

Emo76 · 09/05/2011 13:22

The L'Oreal spray can one for pale skin gives my relatively pale skin no colour at all so could be worth a try if you are very pale and wanting subtle colour- or it could just be rubbish!!

"It's pretty shit on milk bottle legs though, hence the orange glow."

hmm that's a good point, my face and arms usually already have a slight tan.

nice to know I'm not the only freak Wink out there.

Also the same. And I'm using St. Bleedin' Tropez.

DollyTwat · 09/05/2011 15:32

My dilemma is do I put more on or wait for it to fade?

AuntieMaggie · 09/05/2011 15:42

problem is despite having spent hours in france with my legs out I still had no colour so had to do something as the difference between top and bottom was looking really odd!

frandango · 09/05/2011 20:11

I bought some organic stuff by Green People - you can dress ten mins after application and its not that dark which is fine for a whitey like me. also doesnt smell bad either and looks really natural - it was more expensive though but worth it. www.greenpeople.co.uk think it was £16 for 200ml. you might like it! PS Havent tried it on face though...
Also - if you have streaks then a baby wipe helps! or a scrubbing mitt!

constantlywrong · 09/05/2011 22:31

TEN minutes after application?! Waiting that long would drive me up the wall.

theothermrsclooney · 09/05/2011 22:56

I've just bought some Perfect legs from This Works it is gorgeous! It's a wash off (I'm too pale and always look tangoed!) and gives my legs a really nice golden sheen.

budgieshell · 09/05/2011 23:15

I have decided orange and stripey still looks better than white with blue and purple veins.

budgieshell · 09/05/2011 23:18

Must add white with blue and purple veins is a description of my legs. Nothing else honest.

wildstrawberryplace · 10/05/2011 11:01

I actually find something like Airbrush Legs by Sally Hansen is better on my milk bottle, blue veined legs than fake tan. It's a kind of spray on make up with some tan colour - sounds awful but its not. It it is sort of like those spray on tights you could get. Um I'm not making this sound attractive am I?

Anyway, I find with the spray on stuff you can get away with bare legs, it makes your legs look like your legs, but better - sort of soft focus, with some colour. If that makes sense.

Once it is dry it needs soap and water to remove it so it won't smudge on clothes etc.

Worth a try?

wildstrawberryplace · 10/05/2011 11:02

Ooh maybe Perfect Legs is a similiar thing?

HouseOfBamboo · 10/05/2011 11:15

Yes it's ironic that fake tan works worst on the parts that need it most!

Agree that the 'make up' options are better than fake tan (and don't smell - MAJOR bonus). I've just tried the Vita Liberata 24ct Silken Shimmer that was mentioned on another thread, it seems good.

badkitty · 10/05/2011 11:59

Normally I have this problem as well - legs seem completely immune to the sun and fake tan (or just go a bit streaky orange) - have tried all the gradual ones, St Tropez, etc. Last week got a Vita Liberata one after seeing it mentioned on another thread, it has a tint in so legs immediately look brown after putting it on and then tan develops after a while. It is AMAZING. First time in my life that my legs have looked vaguely healthly (usually horrid blotchy white). Put it on yesterday morning and went to work in a dress with no tights (normally not even an option despite the fact that I know that nude tights are a huge fashion offence and I hate them). I had to keep going in to the loos to look at my brown legs I was so pleased :)

NotFromConcentrate · 10/05/2011 12:02

I have the opposite problem too (using Garnier gradual tan). My legs and forearms tan nicely whilst my face, upper arms and decolletage stay a nice pasty white colour.

Back to Clinique Self Sun, I think.

AuntieMaggie · 10/05/2011 12:57

OOh I got a spray on thing from Soap and glory in a set I had for xmas - maybe I should try that ?!
