Does anyone get a lovely brown face and arms with self tan but orange legs?

I am using Johnsons Holiday Skin atm but have found it with other brands, despite my face and arms going a gorgeous tanned colour my legs always go orangey! Does anyone else have this problem? Any solutions (I already exfoliate etc)

TIA

I end up with orange knees! Mainly because they are a bit dry and scaly, so I try to put a little moisturiser on them before applying the Johnson's Holiday Skin.

I'm using a bottle from two years ago, but I think it might have gone off - it smells really strong. Are there any gradual tanners which aren't so stinky?

lostlady · 10/05/2011 13:52

I find Holiday Skin hopelessly orange. Am very fair, and use Famous Dave's fake tan for fair skin - natural colour to hide the greyish blue whiteness of my legs Grin

I've got stripy legs at the moment :( Not a good look. That was with the L'Oreal gradual tan one. I've never used one of the make up ones but maybe that's the way forward. I'd be worried about it rubbing off on clothes though.

My legs are impervious to fake tan, even the posh stuff Sad

However, Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs has rescued me from fake tan disaster on a few occasions now. It can be a bit orangey but as a previous poster said that's better than pure white!

xen-tan is the the way forward. ABout £20 from feelunique. Goes on dark (Dh always, always asks if I've been creosoted) and smells vaguely almondy. DOESN'T STREAK! I do it on Sunday evenings and keep it topped up with Dove gradual stuff every other day. Use vinyl gloves though, cos it stains like buggary. Lots of people have complimented me on it and even asked if it's natural, and I am someone vampires are usually jealous of. Smile

OK, on the basis of a few comments on this thread I bought Fake Bake wash off tan stuff on the way home. Hopefully it will smell better than the other stuff if nothing else!

Librashavinganotherbiscuit thank you for this post. I am so pleased to meet ppl just like me! I thought it was just me that has milk bottle legs that repel or glow orange when using any type of fake bake!

I have used the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs spray (about £9) on special occasions and it does give a really nice effect. In fact bought it more than once so that's testimony in itself! Colour and airbrushes any veins etc.

theothermrsclooney · 10/05/2011 20:46

Perfect Legs has a really natural wash off colour but also has Arnica in it to help with bruises (result of playing football with 3yo) has vitamins in it to help heal shaving nicks. It smells amazing too!

Indaba · 10/05/2011 22:52

can't give any leg solutions but for face and neck the Clarins one (for face & decollete (spelling?) is bloody amazing and I have never never never had any tidemarks......really subtle....amazing....can't recommend highly enough!

nappyaddict · 10/05/2011 23:44

With airbrush legs and perfect legs i would be worried DS or I would spill a drink on me or it would rain and start running off everywhere.

wildstrawberryplace · 11/05/2011 09:50

nappyaddict, it's waterproof - it doesn't rub off until you wash it with water + soap

nappyaddict · 11/05/2011 13:21

fake tan challenge

wendihouse22 · 11/05/2011 15:49

Indaba...does the Clarins one smell funny?

Indaba · 11/05/2011 21:08

Never noticed a smell at all. Just checked my bottle....its called Eau Lactee Auto Bronzante ie Liquid Bronze Self tanning for face & decollete.

Comes in bottles of 125ml.

Not cheap but a bottle lasts months and months. (sorry live overseas and its hideously expensive here (30 GBP?) but definitely cheaper in England?

I'm really pale...I put it on every two to four days....no need for foundation.....you just look healthy.......cos its so pale you don't get tidemarks unless you've been really really stupid and do wash hands afterwards. Its enough to give you a matt glow. I reckon after two applications you'll totally get the hang of how much you need. I'd build up slowly over he course of a week.

Want to very very very upmarket spa last year. Got chatting too my therapist....she said EVERY one of the women who worked there who were white skinned/caucasian used it ALL the time!

good luck

(and no, am not on commission!!!

Indaba · 11/05/2011 21:09

but only for face and chest...too subtle for legs

Collision · 11/05/2011 21:11

I went for a St Tropez spray tan last Saturday and it is fab!

Brown arms and legs and chest. Lots of compliments. Have booked a course of 5 tans and will ask for more on my face next time as it came off quickly.

Some things should be left to professionals - fake tanning included!

AuntieMaggie · 12/05/2011 12:51

I think fake tan fades more on your face depending on what you use to wash it iykwim
