What sandals are your 5/6/7 year old girls wearing this spring/summer?

Gorran · 27/04/2011 10:14

I always buy my DDs a pair of Birkenstock Roma sandals for the summer - nice and supportive, can walk for ages in them, and pretty colours.

Have bought the younger DD a pair of Rios instead this year (a little bit daintier than Roma) but the older one wants Gizeh (www.amazon.co.uk/Birkenstock-Birko-Flor-Style-No-Sandals-Regular/dp/B000KBZSPG/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1303895524&sr=1-2-fkmr0) instead - I'm reluctant as I'm not convinced toe-post sandals are supportive enough for a 6yr old (but our very good local independent shoe shop do sell and recommend them) - what do you think?

Have also bought a couple of pairs of frippery sandals (Next, H&M et al) for parties/meals out etc. - but the Birkies are their walking/day out sandals if that makes sense...

Marking my place, as I never find decent sandals for DD to wear to school: they're either too fancy (she will ruin them!) or have an insubstantial sole.

Clarks are missing a trick here ...

Bonsoir · 27/04/2011 13:20

Start-Rite

dolceebanana · 27/04/2011 14:05

My girls are younger but both have Start-Rites. Lovely, traditional sandals.

tassisssss · 27/04/2011 14:12

I have just bought these in white They have a fab cushioned sole but I'm a little in shock at the price and really hope dd wears them and not just her crocs/doodles all summer!

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 27/04/2011 14:24

At 6 they still need the heel to be held so I wouldn't buy the gizeh for my DD (6) TBH.
We had lots of start-rite too in the UK, now we have italian (primigi, very good) or spanish (biomechanics) not sure they are available to you.
geox?

Francagoestohollywood · 27/04/2011 14:33

We haven't bought sandals yet. I would love a pair similar to Bonsoir's, but I am sure a pair of Birkenstock's would be the wisest buy, since I usually take the dc to the park after school, and dd runs around a lot.

I have these for my 4 year old. She loves them and they are fine with or without socks..... Great for in the heat here too.

RtHonLadyEuphemiaOfCaledonia · 27/04/2011 16:58

£55.50?! Shock

popcal · 27/04/2011 17:50

Watching this thread! I have a real struggle to get sandals/ summer shoes for my daughter. She's 6 soon to be 7 and takes a size 4 (adult). I find alot of the styles of shoe look too old for her. Currently she's got Mary Jane style crocs and she has some Birkenstocks Madrids (which she pestered me for to be like mum!) Any ideas?

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 27/04/2011 18:04

we had www.spartoo.eu/Agatha-Ruiz-de-la-Prada-FLEUR-x38012.phpthose last year (horrible!) but the only one which fitted DD1 (5) at the time goes up to 34/35 I think.
Campers & Kickers should also go up to adults sizes, and have kids designs.
french brands like les tropeziennes have also sandals with the same design kids and adults like that

imnobody · 27/04/2011 19:13

RtHon I am in Greece so a different price, but I must admit I didn't buy them for her, her godmother did...

Also unfortunatly that is the normal price of kids shoes here. Clothes and shoes are horrendously overpriced..

It pays me to do orders from Sports direct and pay the 50 pounds shipping fee than shopping here...

JemimaMop · 27/04/2011 19:19

My 5yr old DD is wearing these Doodles. Not particularly stylish but fit her well and can be thrown in the washing machine!

dolceebanana · 27/04/2011 19:59

You can get Primigi in the UK now. Ds has boat shoes by that brand and yes, they are very good.

mumwhereareyou · 27/04/2011 20:14

Have just brought my dd who is 6 these www.northshoes.co.uk/Girls-Shoes/Ricosta-Tally-69259-Brown-Girls-Sandal-by-Ricosta.aspx although hers are a grey colour

Waswondering DD1 had those (in white) when she was 4 they were very good. DD1 is a climber and a runner and ruins any shoes within seconds, they hold on! for the summer and a bit more (indoor shoes for school after a scrub).
I always buy last seasons models to get them cheaper.

If you don't mind paying £40/45 Camper kids are lovely:http://shop.camper.com/productos.xhtml?type=K&lng=en&gclid=CPm98uC4vagCFcoa4QodTxx2Bg here

Or John Lewis do Clarks, Startrite, Birkenstock and their own brand.

DD has sev pairs from TKMaxx can't resist the frippery.

teej · 28/04/2011 10:33

Oh - lots of lovely sandals here!

Granny v kindly got these for DD for an Easter pressie, but bought in the UK (just couldn't find a UK linky that shows both shoes). All three of us were smitten, it has to be said.

I love Noel, Primigi, Birks too - but might have a nosey at TK Maxx as I've picked up some Primigis there before.

RtHon the Geox look expensive but DD had a pair like these a couple of years back and they were worth every penny; they are just dressy enough to be "proper" sandals with a dress but also robust & sporty enough (trainer sole) to be a godsend for playing in parks/climbing trees all spring/summer, especially with the closed in toe to help protect against the inevitable bumps and bashes!

bishboschone · 28/04/2011 18:25

cgi.ebay.co.uk/TIMBERLAND-Girls-Sandals-/130513124189?pt=UK_Clothing_GirlsShoes_GirlsShoes_GL&hash=item1e63303b5d..or these Timberland

My dd is 7 and very active.

Hi Mumsnet,

My name is Eleanor and I work at Sarenza.co.uk, I've seen some support on the thread for Sarenza which is great!

Just a quick heads up, we are running a private sale from Thursday to Sunday for kids Naturino shoes: www.sarenza.co.uk/naturino that i thought might be of interest.

As I said, the sale isn't live until Thursday but there will be up to 50% off!

All the best,
Eleanor

snail1973 · 16/05/2011 14:57

Bought these for my DD (almost 5)
www.doogies.co.uk/primigi_flilippa_girls.html
They are a bit ££ but she wore them out of the shop and then for 3 hours around the playground and they have been super comfortable. She even wore them as bridesmaids shoes this weekend.

Hoping we continue to have lovely weather so we can get our money's worth!!
