What colour are your bathtowels and do they all coordinate?

Not sure if this should be in S&B but thought you stylish ones would maybe help!

About to renovate bathroom and am going to try and persuade DH we should buy nice new towels (ours are ok but very mismatched).

Bathroom will be beige or grey and white ie very neutral. Generally speaking I like neutrals.

Is white a very bad idea (with young DCs)?

Thanks

We all have different colour bath towels. But then I am all for practicality and not much bothered about living in a show home. I have white, the dc have pastel colours, dh has dark colours. No chance of him accidentally using one of my towels on his undercarriage, see.

cybboid · 18/04/2011 18:03

I would go bright

Mummyrev · 18/04/2011 18:05

We have white ones. They wash fine but I do them at a higher temp. Have 3 dc and it works fine. Although I do sometimes wonder if I should colour code the kids.

Ours are a righ mishmash, but we have a brightly coloured hand towel from \link{http://www.next.co.uk/shopping/homeware/bathroom/4/4?extra=sch&n=homeware&pid=499-708&returnurl=%2fshop%2fcategory%2dtowels%2dproductaffiliation%2dbathroom%2d0%3fx%3d1%26cnt%3d123%26nxti%3d0%26nxtv%3d0%23499%2d708&bct=%26quot%3bShop%20By%20Product%26quot%3b%26nbsp%3b%26gt%3b%26nbsp%3bTowels%26nbsp%3b%26gt%3b%26nbsp%3bBathroom\this range from Next}, which also has grey or brown variants - they're really nice, imo.

LynetteScavo · 18/04/2011 18:06

You mean there is any other colour apart from white when it comes to towels?

I only have white towels, white loo roll and white sheets. (Apart from on DCs bed)

FolornHope · 18/04/2011 18:08

We have diffi collies so we know whose is whose

FolornHope · 18/04/2011 18:09

White ones always look shit

LynetteScavo · 18/04/2011 18:09

My white towels do not look shit.

cybboid · 18/04/2011 18:15

I ahve deep grape (arf) in mine and H's bathroom, kids have red white and blue, one colour each

Bucharest · 18/04/2011 18:17

I have a mishmash of old towels, but last year bought a humungous bundle of blue ones from M and S in their sale. 6 bath, 6 normal, 6 hand for about £25. Brilliant.

Lynette, how do you keep the white white though? My Mum has just done all her bedroom in white but she's a WI member who lives alone so knows about stuff like starch. I can't keep anything white.....

leavesleaves · 18/04/2011 18:27

Many years ago I decided to have white towels only because as some wear out and need to be replaced the new white towels will always match the old ones. I am always happy to share this tip as I feel it is one of the few sensible household management decisions I have made.

I keep them white by a) never washing them with anything other than other whites and b) using Vanish. They can always be washed at 90 and even bleached if necessary.

WMDinthekitchen · 18/04/2011 18:28

Have grey and white marbled bathroom tiles and until last week had light grey towels. Wanted a change & so dyed them all dark grey. Also have some old green and rust coloured plus beach towels. Think we are towel city!

sancerrre · 18/04/2011 18:37

Dark blue and white. Whites are kept white by banning DH from using them.

Adair · 18/04/2011 18:39

My mum got me new towels from Sainsburys for my birthday (yes, yes, i know)- all different bright colours - pink, green, blue. Thought would look nice in our inherited black n white bathroom. Didn't realise we'd be so on trend - will be v dated in a few years i am sure! Dh keeps putting old ones out though, annoys me enormously Grin.

Would never manage white towels, we are not that sort of household (hence why i am inordinately proud of our smartish bathroom)

We've got a really neutral bathroom too - light stone walls, dark stone floor, a dark wood table. We have some white towels, but I actually don't think they look too good in there. So I bought some beautiful John Lewis classic towels in 'Truffle'. I've had them a year and they still look brand new, and very luxuriant.

Also I was given an Orla Kiely bathmat in charcoal as well, it goes beautifully in the bathroom and I don't mind that it doesn't match my towels.

headfairy · 18/04/2011 19:52

If you wanted to bring some colour in to a plain bathroom I've always lusted after these Missoni towels

headfairy · 18/04/2011 19:56

or I love these colourful - and cheaper - ones

I'm a Missoni towel fan, after years of boil washing White towels I had my bathrooms replaced and went mad in Missoni outlet shop

They look fab in a white bathroom don't they Alouiseg?

Al0uiseG · 18/04/2011 20:04

They look fab in my moodily dark bathroom and my vaguely lighter one. I'm very tempted by the dressing gowns but I'd probably never get dressed. That website you linked from is fun isn't it! I've only been looking at it for a couple of weeks, I think it's based quite locally to me.

create · 18/04/2011 20:07

We're still using our wedding present so ours our mint and peach (80s wedding!) now with the odd bleach mark, but soooo much wear left in them Grin

I do occasionally think about changing them....

DirtyMart1ni · 18/04/2011 20:08

Ooh, Missoni Envy

Our towels are all pale neutral shades from John Lewis sales ... I don't like white ones. We have some cream ones though.

Broadly speaking, I think towel quality is vastly more important than the colour. Cheap textures make towels look and feel horrid.
