Not sure if this should be in S&B but thought you stylish ones would maybe help!

About to renovate bathroom and am going to try and persuade DH we should buy nice new towels (ours are ok but very mismatched).

Bathroom will be beige or grey and white ie very neutral. Generally speaking I like neutrals.

Is white a very bad idea (with young DCs)?

Thanks

you want colour coding
then you know who didnt pick upt eh towel

headfairy · 18/04/2011 20:11

It is a good website Alouiseg... I do like designers Guild for the same reasons, bright colours and designs. There's too much beige in this world for my liking :o

spongefingerssavedmylife · 18/04/2011 20:11

White! I have 2 DCs and they are fine. Only wash together. They all match and there's nothing like wrapping up in a clean white towel after a bath. DCs look super-cute all bundled up too.

I have 2 colours - White and Apricot (well, I think its apricot...) They are from NEXT and wash really well.

RustyBear · 18/04/2011 20:19

I had a mishmash of towels so I bought a couple of packs of dark blue dye and I now have lots of blue towels in my blue and white bathroom - they are slightly different shades depending on the colour they were before but they all go together nicely.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/04/2011 20:38

I have White I wash them in sains basic powder and soda crystals. I use twice the amount of powder advised for a load on the pack and two dessert spoons of washing soda. They make my eyes hurt if I look at them on the line in sunshine.

Dh aunty has the softest fluffiest towels ever. Primark. I am not joking. They pile is thicker than my hideously pricey christy towels.

noddyholder · 18/04/2011 20:45

White here too They do not look shit lady muck! I only wash them together though hot with bio and a bit of soda crystals whiter than white.

tulpe · 18/04/2011 20:51

Our towels are burgundy (sounds v old fashioned name!) and dark taupe.

They go with our bathrooms which are very spa like: dark wood, glossy pale beige tiles (with one gorgeous but v expensive chocolate coloured tiled wall), everything hidden away in v practical but stylish deep drawer cabinet, dim-able(sp?) lighting.......ooooh I love my bathrooms.....

tulpe · 18/04/2011 20:52

Oh and my towels are cheap - Tesco Finest range - but stay soft, fluffy and no fade.

cybboid · 18/04/2011 20:54

tuple thats why I called my towels 'dark grape'

think mine are tesco's too

i fancy orange next

Nagoo · 18/04/2011 20:55

I didn't understand having individual towels, but folornHope, i do enjoy apportioning blame Grin

i have lots of 'tuffley' type ones in my natural stone and cream bathroom.

chocolatecoveredrationalist · 18/04/2011 20:56

All white, fine with 2 small children although I do tend to wash them with the bedding at 60 - thanks to dd1 we do now own a disney princess abomination too.

cybboid · 18/04/2011 20:56

If your family had had threadworms as often as mine, you would have individual towels

Nagoo · 18/04/2011 20:59

no kids at school yet cyb.

I'm sure it's in the post

ChupaChups · 18/04/2011 21:22

White definitely.

Wash at 60 with persil bio and lenor or comfort fabric conditioner. Everyone has their own hook or rail here....

bristolcities · 18/04/2011 21:40

I have grey hand towels, small and big towels, one Cath Kidston bath sheet and a couple of grey and black checked big towels(used for the beach). So yes colour coordinatedish here.

jamaisjedors · 18/04/2011 22:50

No individual towels?

We also do colour-coordinating per person, so I have yellow and DH blue.

The DS have whatever is hanging round and old the rest.

ruffletheanimal · 18/04/2011 22:53

we have white for the house, yellow for the hot tub, blue for the pool and brown for the sauna.
hth

bristolcities · 18/04/2011 23:12

In my defense and actually it does sound a bit anal and so not me, I'm early 20s so haven't had that much time living on my on to accumulate an array of towels.

I asked for my grey set as my 20th birthday present (yes sad I know and I got bedding for my 19th, rock and roll) so got them in one go.

I am very much looking forward to feeling like a proper adult with an assortment of towels Grin

HappyAsIAm · 19/04/2011 09:04

We have a dark grey and white bathroom. My towels are white, white with a grass green stitching, and grass green. All matching, but not all identical IYSWIM. They are Christy ones from Debenhams in last summer's sale. Bargain, as they were 70% off.

ullainga · 19/04/2011 09:29

I have matching ones, but different colours so we would know who uses which one. from:

here

takingchances · 19/04/2011 11:50

I'm the same as Lynette. I only have white towels and sheets (and loo roll). DH bought a RED towel one time, I didn't know what to do with it. So after a few uses I cut it up for dusters!!!

higgle · 19/04/2011 12:18

White for us, black ( from John Lewis ) for DS1 & 2 - originally bought for sports at school but they are lovely thick towels that seem to last forever.
