Not keen on Birkenstock or FitFlop, love wedges...but need to be able to walk a fair distance in my summer shoes - what can I wear??

Any help would be fab please ladies.
I have the old flat flipflops - but they kill my feet if I wear them too far. I'm not keen on Birkies - I just don't think they look very nice! FitFlops - I cannot get my head around them, they are overpriced and I don't really like the fat soles.
I love wedges, but am crap in high shoes, I also need to be able to walk lots in my summer shoes.
What on earth do I wear?
Please help me!

Am on the hunt for something exactly the same wrigglytummy. Those Fly sandals look rather nice!

miche8 · 13/04/2011 10:05

i think once you try the fitflops and realise just how comfy they are - you'll get over the fact they are actually quite ugly.

Soups · 13/04/2011 10:14

I love those Fly shoes, what are they like for width?

Ooh, thanks ladies, I didn't expect so many replies, I do love those fly shoes - I'm weirdly drawn to the red!
Miche8 - I hear what you say about fitflops - my friend said the exact same thing...btu I just can't bring myself to do it!

Am I the only one who thinks those fly sandals look like something that my 70 year old Mum would wear????

brimfull · 13/04/2011 16:28

christ those doc martins are vile

gemmummy · 13/04/2011 16:29

don't like either of those

Ragwort · 13/04/2011 16:29

Mills I thought the same but didn't like to comment Grin.

I second FitFlops - I also thought they were ugly/overpriced/trendy - but now I love them !

frankie3 · 13/04/2011 16:30

I normally love fly shoes but those sandals look like old fashioned bhs shoes from the top, although I like the sole.

AnonymousBird · 13/04/2011 16:34

The fly shoes are AWFUL, is this a joke?! Even my mum wouldn't wear those!!!! Bleugh.

Butterbur · 13/04/2011 16:34

The Fly ones look llike orthopaedic shoes, and the DMs are flowery Jesus sandals. I would prefer to be uncomfortable in the summer than set foot in either.

LorrieS · 13/04/2011 16:34

I bought some Oxygen shoes recently - the sandals are quite Birkenstock-ish but they are really comfortable. You might not be keen if you don't like Birkenstocks, but worth a look.

reikizen · 13/04/2011 16:38

dammit those fly ones are nice! And I usually hate Fly stuff.

Pixielovescake · 13/04/2011 16:43

These are supposed to be very comfy , but i dont have them myself ive just been told. : sandels

and these wedges

SeymoreButts · 13/04/2011 17:00

what about gladiator style sandals? I find them much more comfortable than flip flops. I quite like these in tan:

Marks and Sparks

Celery · 13/04/2011 17:22

I have the Fly sandals. I think they look nicer in real life, and they are very comfortable.

polyhymnia · 13/04/2011 18:23

I'm a Fitflop fan. If you can accept the thick sole - which is super comfortable - they have some pretty styles this year. Am intending to go for the limited edition ones coming up on Net a Porter.

Have to say, I think those Fly shoes look fantastically comfortable but, at my age, think people would think they were 'old ladies shoes' - and not in an ironic way. Just like something from Hotter, in fact.

May sneak into Fly shop and give them a try next time I'm in Covent Gdn anyway, out of curiosity..

sassyTHEFIRST · 13/04/2011 18:28

These are my Fly London wedges.

Nicer than the sandals IMO.

And the DMs Shock

Barftastic!

ullainga · 14/04/2011 06:34

i have those in beige. very comfy, can walk long distances and actually look cute.
