Who are the women sized 18+ who are wearing this dress...

www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Dresses/Knee-Length-Dresses/WH251/Womens-Smart-Shift.html?NavGroupID=4

This puzzles me. I have ordered this dress after agonsing over whether i really can do sleeveless- my upper arms are a bit soft.

I am a size 10 .

Having had a peak at the dress again, I see that it is sold out in larger 18+ sizes.

Why would anyone who is that size wear a dress which is going to reveal so much flesh?

(Ducks bricks)

Maybe they just haven't made asmany? fwiw, I am a size 10 and that dress would look way better on my size 18 friend than on me. SHe's got the norks for it

Pagwatch · 04/04/2011 18:45

perhaps other peoples arms arn't as shit as yours are?

cabbageroses · 04/04/2011 18:46

Perhaps Pagwatch.

yeah, anyone over a size 12 really should be covered from head to foot to avoid offending anyone...Hmm

Maybe some people are wearing it with a cardi or jacket over? Or maybe, just maybe, it's possible to be a size 18 and have toned arms?

DottyDot · 04/04/2011 18:48

I'm size 20 18 and I'd wear something like this - the top half of the dress flatters those with large norkage, which frankly is all anyone ever seems to notice, so who cares about arms?! Grin

Pagwatch · 04/04/2011 18:48

some people have good bits and bad bits

I am a 10 too and my arms are good. but my knees are horrible.

people can have very varying bits and pieces.

i think that dress would look better on someone curvey than on me

BooBooGlass · 04/04/2011 18:49

Yep, when I was a size 18 I still had good arms. Now I'm a size 10 they're amazing. Clearly you're slacking cabbage

Pagwatch · 04/04/2011 18:49

Grin at dotty

yes. that may be true

BoysAreLikeDogs · 04/04/2011 18:50

so what size do YOU think would be acceptable to wear a frock such as this one, OP?

HaggisNeepsnTatties · 04/04/2011 18:52

It looks awful on the model. She's not curvy enough...my boobs would look great in that dress....Grin

lubeybooby · 04/04/2011 18:53

Maybe their arms are toned. Maybe they are wearing it with a cardi. Maybe you are being paranoid over nothing, and subconciously jealous of women at ease with themselves despite in your eyes being not as attractive or worthy as you.

cabbageroses · 04/04/2011 18:53

it all depends on proportions. and age.

I am 50+ so that's my excuse for having flabby arms but i am working on them very hard.

But generally, just generally, larger people have larger arms and they are not usually in very good nick.

Unbeleivable. When I clicked on the link I was expecting fluresant pink hot pants (not that a larger lady couldnt wear them if she felt so inclined!) but this is just a rather normal dress, it would be flattering to all shapes and sizes. Not particularly revealing...

If you are a size 10 and deliberating over whether youre too fat to wear this dress because your arms will look fat, I suggest that you have some insecurity and/or body image issues that you should look at rather than pass them on to other women.

Blu · 04/04/2011 18:57

The women who feel OK about themselves and just like the dress and don't want to spend summer draped in hot fabric for the sake of some irrational worry about their dimensions? Not sure why people over a certain size should swelter away in a cardi!

was only recommending style and beauty to someone yesterday. based on a recent thread of a larger woman wanting advice on what to wear to a wedding, i said it was supportive and helpful. hope she's not looking today

cabbageroses · 04/04/2011 19:03

yes I deffo have some body image issues that i want to pass on to my MN sisters. Deffo.

Just like the person who posted about why linen trousers should be banned as they show everyone's fat arses.

Talk about double standards on threads.

Weird question! I too expected something truly outrageous. I would not orser the dress myself, but, if your arms are fine (or you feel happy baring them) and it generally suits you, why not? Surely you wouldn't prefer to see us Size 16+ people covered from head to toe in a nice tent, would you??

(I do also think Boden make less items in the larger sizes, btw).

If you are a size ten and worried about revealing your upper arms then you have serious ishoos imo. I am size 14 and happily bare my flabby upper arms in the summer - do you seriously believe women should cover up any part of their anatomy that is slightly less than perfect? If so, I suggest counselling.

polyhymnia · 04/04/2011 19:04

'Order', not 'orser' ! On the linen trouser thread I personally just said I didn't generally like them, regardless of wearer's size.

cabbageroses · 04/04/2011 19:05

it's so funny here...

anyone who makes any comment about something that may not suit an ahem, larger lady, is pilloried.

or accused of having some kind of psychological disorder.

it's not me who needs to be defensive, ladies. Oh no. You all take the bait far too easily Smile

Agree, was expecting to click and find a handkerchief amount of material... not a Boden dress FGS.
IMO this dress could work for women of any dress size with the right accessories.
I have to say I find your post a little bit Hmm.
I am 5ft and a Boden size 8 - there are bits of me I love and bits I would rather disguise.
