Who are the women sized 18+ who are wearing this dress...

This puzzles me. I have ordered this dress after agonsing over whether i really can do sleeveless- my upper arms are a bit soft.

I am a size 10 .

Having had a peak at the dress again, I see that it is sold out in larger 18+ sizes.

Why would anyone who is that size wear a dress which is going to reveal so much flesh?

(Ducks bricks)

I think we're all in danger of missing the real issue here-

That dress is fucking awful.

Clarnico · 04/04/2011 19:11

OP it's just that some people do the pisstaking with more panache and wit than you have.

I think you might be horrified and offended by someone size 18 wearing that dress, but I would expect that that woman has more confidence than you. Or maybe you wouldn't.

But I think your about-face is more to do with trying to dig yourself out of a hole.

You may now lol and try to patronise me.

ginmakesitallok · 04/04/2011 19:11

Thing is - that dress would suit a larger lady??

Meggles76 · 04/04/2011 19:12

Grin @ Tethers - A Boden 'finest' wouldn't you say!!!

Themumsnot · 04/04/2011 19:12

You know what OP, you remind me of those people who preface really rude remarks with "I'm not being funny, but..." What they mean is I'm about to say something completely out of order, but I'm not going to let you call me on it.
Take the bait indeed.

FFS people!!

Having issues about any given body part is not size dependent. Slim women have "fat days" and have as many insecurities as larger women. Doesn't mean they have "issues" that require counselling Hmm

I don't think the OP is suggesting that women sized 18+ should cover themselves from head to foot. She is simply saying that she is surprised at the popularity of that dress in the larger sizes. And yes, tbh, given the number of threads on here asking for advice for an outfit but one which "must not show upper arms" then I don't think she is alone in that.

Agree with OP that it is a great example of double standards given the smart-*rse comments and links which were posted on the linen trousers thread.

And whilst I have seen many comments joshing other people, I have never seen anything but support for women who express their insecurities on S&B threads. Why should OP be treated any differently? Why is it okay to tell her she has issues and should seek counselling merely because she is only a size 10? Oh yes, how very dare she be insecure!! At what size is it okay to be insecure then?

morethanthisprovinciallife · 04/04/2011 19:13

Why do you even care if the dress is suitable for a 'ahem, larger lady'. When shopping for my size 20 body the last thing I am worried about is if the item would suit a size 10.

Gingefringe · 04/04/2011 19:14

It must be a popular dress for the size 18+ because they're either low stock or sold out in all the large sizes so I'm assuming it suits the larger woman!

Icoulddoitbetter · 04/04/2011 19:18

OP I understand what you're saying, it's the kind of thing that goes through my mind sometimes when I see clothes in larger sizes in shops but I wouldn't say it out loud! I'm a size 12 but am not particularly fit and hate wearing sleaveless tops. Even at my skinniest, I was never comfortable. But I've got friends / relatives much bigger than me who are more than comfotable in vest tops / sleeveless dresses in summer. It's me that has the problem, not them.

Gok needs to come and have a word with you!

Emo76 · 04/04/2011 19:22

Doesn't it depend on how tall someone is as to how in proportion they might look in that dress?

Meggles76 · 04/04/2011 19:47

As I said earlier, I am 5ft and a Boden size 8. I can't wear any Boden dresses. The proportions are wrong and they are invariably way too long on me. It would look like a sack on me and I would look vile (but I do have toned little arms OP Wink)

cabbageroses · 04/04/2011 20:01

thank you tulpe.

Just to satisfy you all I have now booked myself in for 6 sessions of counselling to overcome the issues I have with my body. It is obviously something I have neglected to tackle now that i am in my 50s and I need to get myself sorted.

I have also booked places for all the style gurus and women over 45-50 who rightly ( most of the time) believe that women's upper arms, whether a size 22, or in middle age, are not a pretty sight.

If anyone asks for opinions on S&B over what suits their mummy tummies or their big bums, or god forbid they are now over 30, I shall implore them to wear what they want, not give a fuck, because if they do the they really need counselling. .

I love you tethers who got right to the heart of the matter Wink

LaurieFairyCake · 04/04/2011 20:20

I'm planning on buying it in a 20. I buy lots of sleeveless summer dresses but I never wear them without a cardigan.

Actually I never wear anything without a thin summer cardie.

madammecholet · 04/04/2011 20:30

OP, tbh, I think you should be more worried about purchasing clothes from Boden...

Blurgh.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 04/04/2011 20:37

Just had another look and I thought as much, Boden are all out of sackcloth and ashes in a size 18+ so the fatsos have had to buy something else.

And don't give out when people attack you for being a prat. Stop being a prat and then you won't get answers you don't like. Easy.
