What are your favourite and worst clothes shops ? And why !

OP posts:
tulpe · 29/03/2011 18:27

Cannot abide New Look - it is always a total mess, the clothes are almost exclusively polyester and the changing rooms are rank.

Can't decide which is my favourite store.......

How about you Dinosaurhunter ?

SickOnMyShoulder · 29/03/2011 18:40

I'm loving Oasis at the moment, bought some lovely bargains in their sale. Their clothes seem to be designed for small boobs and they sell lots of lovely A-line skirts and wider leg trousers, great for pear shapes.

I also buy classic items from Hobbs and Boden, as well as more on-trend pieces from Warehouse, Uniqlo and H&M.

madammecholet · 29/03/2011 18:53

I hate All Saints...with all those silly sewing machines in the window and overpriced tat...

Loving H&M summer chino's at the moment, having a moment loving Hobbs T shirts (won't last though as rest of stuff frumpy), and IN LOVE with Viv Westwood Anglomania...suits my ample curves.....

spiderslegs · 29/03/2011 19:06

Mmmm - do all my shopping on-line sooo,

Love

Toast
Net-a-Porter
My Wardrobe
Whistles
Brora

Lovely websites & great packaging when you get your stuff

Hate

Asos - just too much gubbins - can't see the attraction
Top-shop - all looks like tat
Boden - Pah - mumsy

If I do shop I tend to shop in local independents where they know my likes/dislikes & always give me a sneaky discount

BelligerentGhoul · 29/03/2011 19:11

LOVE Vivienne Westwood but only have two items and haven't liked much of the most recent stuff.

I like M&S Autograph and Limited Collection for v plain t-shirts which wash well.

Hobbs for the v occasional sale classic - eg a good coat / a plain black cashmere and silk mix jumper.

Oasis and Warehouse for v occasional bits - eg recently bought some Oasis skinny jeans and I like some of the slouchy tops in Warehouse. I don't like either as much as I used to.

I hate Topshop and New Look and Gap has been v disappointing for a long time (used to get a lot there).

lololizzy · 29/03/2011 19:29

All Saints (but not the prices) as the flowy often asymetric styles seem to suit my tall frame well
Topshop for the styles and tall section, fave shopping is the Oxford Circus stores basement that has other labels
Primark for when i'm skint as their summer dresses are usually fab (but never EVER for leggings and jeans...NOT suitable for long legs!)
Zara or H+m for cute t-shirts
Office for shoes
Urban Outfitters for anything
but charity/vintage shops i love best, as i like to look different where possible eg Rokit and Camden

lololizzy · 29/03/2011 19:30

total no nos would be M&S, Boden, and Next except for Next leggings and occasionally jeans

spiderslegs · 29/03/2011 19:45

Agree with lolo, why anyone would shop at M&S is beyond me, always looks cheap & frumpy & their children's stuff is crap. And Next - too many synthetics & just feel depressed when I venture there.

lololizzy · 29/03/2011 19:46

i think M&S IS good quality but unbearably frumpy it has to be said , some pretty undies perhaps...

Dinosaurhunter · 29/03/2011 19:48

I love oasis for good essentials
Karen millan for bags and shoes
monsoon/ accessarize because it's just so pretty !!
I hate new look !!!

OP posts:
Dinosaurhunter · 29/03/2011 19:50

For my ds I love gap and john lewis

OP posts:
BelligerentGhoul · 29/03/2011 20:14

Lots of M&S is horrible but I think the Autograph section has a lot of nice stuff - quite Whistles-inspired at times. Most of it is too long for me though.

MarshaBrady · 29/03/2011 20:16

Liberty and Net-a-Porter (in the sales mostly!)
and theoutnet

lackaDaisy · 29/03/2011 20:35

I love Oasis, Warehouse, People Tree, and Urban Outfitters. Good quality basics from Hobbs and Boden, and on-trend cute basics from H+M and Zara. Bargains from TKMaxx.

Never set foot in New Look and Primark as it's so messy and has so many things on display that I get a bit panicky.

I think Next and M&S have lost their way...they may have their moment in the future, but definitely not now.

TaudrieTattoo · 29/03/2011 20:50

Love Whistles, Vivienne Westwood and All Saints for t-shirts.

Kinda like Boden and occasionally find the odd thing in White Stuff, though I try not to go for these too much as they are a bit of a uniform round here. I look for the plainer or stripy stuff rather than the florals/grandma's curtains.

All knickers and tights (well, normal stuff Wink) from M and S. The odd gem from Limited Collection, but other than that it's bobbins.

Absolutely hate the fashion hell that is Next. Why anyone would want to buy anything from there is beyond me. Overpriced tat.

I'm running out of ideas these days, the choice of places is shrinking as I get older and fatter.

TaudrieTattoo · 29/03/2011 20:51

I meant I only get t-shirts from All Saints, get lots of stuff from Whistles...and a bit from Viv

TaudrieTattoo · 29/03/2011 20:53

God, I forgot Gap! Loads of basics from Gap, though the quality has gone down a lot lately.

Mahraih · 29/03/2011 20:53

H&M - cheap and chic (mostly) - I still remember the first thing I bought there at 15, a 50's style strawberry print dress. And the latest thing, a cream linen jacket. Also perfect jeans. It's great :)

Primark - caters to my fickle nature perfectly, as the prices mean I don't feel guilty of buying and then getting bored of the item a month later!

COS - consistently brilliant: colours, tailoring, always on the money.

French Connection - not sure I'll be able to wear their little dresses again until I lose the baby weight, but before I had boobs, they were gorgeous.

TopShop - I'm 22, it is mandatory that I adore TopShop.

HATE: All Saints (ugly and expensive); Uniqlo (so many damn printed t-shirts this year!)

LargeGlassOfRedPlease · 29/03/2011 20:59

Love french connection, zara, coast, hobbs, crew clothing, warehouse, (some) Boden, Fat Face.

Hate river island, H&M, new look, Dotty Ps, Miss Selfridge, Next (kids ok)

I'm 36..so probably in line with getting old! I like classic tailored style.

BelligerentGhoul · 29/03/2011 21:01

Oh yes - Next...I hate Next...In fact, I'm astonished it's still open.

Dinosaurhunter · 29/03/2011 21:05

Oh I forgot I love French connection , great for special occasion dresses .

spiderslegs · 29/03/2011 21:11

If we're talking brands rather than shops I luurve

APC
Margaret Howell

Toast
Seven for all Mankind jeans
Paul & Joe
Vanessa Bruno

Dinosaurhunter · 29/03/2011 21:12
