What are your favourite and worst clothes shops ? And why !

Like: Oasis, Warehouse, H and M, TS and Zara. Also Net a Porter when I cam afford it. Have bought a couple of nice dresses in Phase 8 in rhe last 12 months.

Dislike: Next, M and S (still get underwear there....and did buy a dress from there last year actually.) Boden- tbh, I think is just the catalogue that annoys me- and the fact that the kne item I have bought fell apart in weeks. Oh, and Jack Wills- all those rugby type shirts to be worn with the collar turned up by girls called 'Tamara'.

I will give most places a try, but if I was short of time the ones on the top list are where I would try first. I am nearly 40, but age is just a number darlings ..... Grin.

spiderslegs · 29/03/2011 21:14

Oh & Goat knitwear & Belstaff boots are both devine

Verso · 29/03/2011 21:15

Love too many shops to count as only recently let loose on High Street due to weight loss Grin.

Hate? Hmm... agree Next can be synthetic beyond belief at times but still manage to get some nice bits for my DDs (and me) in the sale, at which times the not-quite-rock-bottom prices (divided by two) seem more appropriate. Gone off Boden in a major way this year - very frumpy and overpriced. Love the look of Zara but found when trying on that often badly made alas. Karen Millen - some lovely things but only managed to justify one single top to myself (though is one of my most favouritest things in wardrobe so therefore logical and sensible purchase).

Best recent purchases have been from eBay, ASOS and JulesB sale (online), so not sure real shops do it for me anymore! Shock

Themumsnot · 29/03/2011 21:17

I think I'm automatically disqualified from this thread, because I just bought two dresses in Sainsbury's! They are nice though, honest. And I buy bits in Primark, in fact I bought a very nice midi-length black jersey dress in there last week. But then I live in a town where Monsoon, Marks and Wallis are the three best options on offer. And they are not very good. I long for Cos or Uniqlo or even H&M.

Verso · 29/03/2011 21:20

Ooh COS is lush! Good choice, themumsnot (and I have several "pieces" from Sainsbury's too )

spiderslegs · 29/03/2011 21:20

Yep verso Next horrid, Boden vilely frumpy (ohh - look at me in my ditzy print - I've still got it....), Zara, good for fast fashion but poorly made.

& yes Verso the things you spend most on will be those that you love & treasure & so, are therefore a cost-per-wear investment & can be passed on to any DDs, I HATE, fast fashion & cheap clothes with a passion - buy less, buy better.

Oh - & Agnes B, love her too.

Dinosaurhunter · 29/03/2011 21:24

I never think to look for myself in sainsburys - but may now !
Though I get my ds loads of bits in there.

Brilliant in Kingston On Thames for jewellery

LaurieFairyCake · 29/03/2011 21:33

Love: Boden, White company, monsoon, Brora, meandem, all of my favourite clothes are from these shops.

I HATE Next, can't believe I used to queue for the sale. Also dislike primark, new look - too much polyester.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/03/2011 08:33

I buy all my clothes from Karen millen, but I get them in the sale on their website and there on the eBay fashion outlet too. I check both every day.

It lasts really well I've got little vest tops from 1999 that still look new.

Avoid the slingback shoes with elastic near the buckle though, when the elastic goes your shoes won't stay on.

dexter73 · 30/03/2011 09:59

Like Monsoon (some nice dresses), Brora (buy their fab cashmere in the sales), Oasis (good jersey dresses), Fat Face (like their jeans), M&S (undies, tights, socks, T-shirts), Gap (merino knits), Uniqlo (jeans and knitwear), Phase Eight (jersey dresses).
Dislike Uniqlo (agree with someone on here about their printed T-shirts. The Cath Kidston ones are beyond hideous!), White Stuff (clothes make me look pregnant and prints are so recognisable), Boden (not convinced of the quality for the price).

aquavit · 30/03/2011 10:06

As a shopping experience I like going in Brora and Jigsaw, though have to be pretty selective in both

Loathe, loathe, loathe Primark and other shops where the point is that it is super-cheap - I know that you can't guarantee that less cheap places are any more ethical in their sourcing, but your chances are better (and don't give me that crap about bulk buying)

Next - ugh - but have got some decent jeans from them recently

M&S - shudder (wrt women's clothes: YUM to food)

ImeldaM · 30/03/2011 10:35

I go in most shops to look as I think if you're picky then can find nice stuff but when I go shopping (usually one day every weekend) I rarely buy anything, but in general

Like (hope to buy in): Zara, Mango, H&M

Dislike (don't go in): Primark, Jane Norman, La Senza (unless DP is in luck & I want to look 'cheap' Wink)
