Comfy shoes for school run - ideas please

lorisparkle · 28/03/2011 11:12

Our school run is about 20 minutes each way with 2 on scooters and 1 in the pushchair. I'll be doing this 3 times a day (or should that be 6!) when DS2 starts playgroup.

I need some shoes to wear in the spring/summer that look good with skirts and dresses but that are really really comfortable!

I have trainer type shoes for when I wear cut off trousers but only uncomfortable sandals.

Budget is tight too so any suggestions will be gratefully received.

I have a similar school run to you, and bought these last year here. They are brilliant, and lots of different colours. I got lots of admiring comments too.

berri · 28/03/2011 15:04

blossoming - can you wear those without socks or do they rub the backs of your heels?

lorisparkle · 28/03/2011 16:02

They look fab blossoming although I am interested in your answer to berri's question!

No socks necessary. Unbelievably comfy. And I have large wide feet and bunions Blush. I got the black, and bought them originally for a Sunday School walk! Definitely fill a hole in my shoe wardrobe!

MikeRotch · 28/03/2011 16:56

those clarks ones are gopping

WhatsWrongWithYou · 28/03/2011 17:02

I've just bought these.

I don't have a long school run but I am one for comfy shoes!

SnailWhaleTail · 28/03/2011 17:37

Birkis are very comfy to walk in, TK Maxx usually start to have loads in at reduced prices at this time of year.

Lots of variation in style/colour too.

wahwahwah · 28/03/2011 17:45

Just a warning - I completely buggered up my ankles wearing ballet pumps and flat slip ons. I was doing the school run (20 mins both ways) and lugging shopping... always rushing about (rather walk than take a bus or train and don't drive), for about 5 years.

Aparently, they were 'too flat' , 'didn't hold me feet properly' and didn't have enough support. It really knackered my back tool. Ouch. But then, I am getting to be a right old crock! And to think I used to wear really high heels and still be able to run in them when I was working. How the hell did I do that??

stylenotfashion · 28/03/2011 18:22

Fitflops are what you want. Comfiest shoes ever (sandals, sneakers, clogs, boots...) and you get a firm bum & toned legs thrown in for free.

MillsAndDoom · 28/03/2011 20:34

Wahwah - so should we be buying shoes with a wee heel then?

Fimbo · 28/03/2011 20:41

Converse

Wow thanks everyone for your suggestions. Loads of research now to be done.

Thanks for the advice wahwahwah I do find that completely flat shoes make my legs ache as much as heels make my feet ache so will look for something with a little more support.

I'm still up for suggestions though.

Well that's about 6 miles a day so I'd take care of your feet if I were you. How about some of the less lumpy Teva sandals?

greenlotus · 28/03/2011 23:05

Or Merrell? mary-janes?

I third the vote for fit flops, which come in various styles not just flipflop. They are the comfiest shoes ever, I'm yet to meet anyone who has bought some and doesn't love them.

Rexy · 28/03/2011 23:26

I bought the Short Superboot and are honestly like wearing slippers. Got 4 pairs of their fit flop sandals and love love love them - well worth the money.

stylenotfashion · 29/03/2011 08:03

madamdeathstare you need the fitflop boots for cold weather - the superboots are brilliant but the mukluks have a shearling interior so are toasty as can be. I've not once had cold toes, even when standing in the pouring rain in the playground - or when sledging with the kids!

They're in the end of season sale at the moment.

Cloggs, shoetique, mozimo & boots online are all good prices.

Northernlurker · 29/03/2011 08:07

I got this from CLarks last year. Was so comfy I got it in two colours. It'snot the prettiest thing but it's ok and I could wear them all day every day.

wahwahwah · 29/03/2011 09:58

Definately something that holds your foot (laces or strap) and a firm sole.

MooM00 · 29/03/2011 10:15

I have a similar walk and wouldn't consider any ballet flats. I wear big ugly teva sandals. I have always put comfort before style in footwear so maybe I shouldn't be posting about my footwear on style and beauty.
