Comfy shoes for school run - ideas please

lorisparkle · 28/03/2011 11:12

Our school run is about 20 minutes each way with 2 on scooters and 1 in the pushchair. I'll be doing this 3 times a day (or should that be 6!) when DS2 starts playgroup.

I need some shoes to wear in the spring/summer that look good with skirts and dresses but that are really really comfortable!

I have trainer type shoes for when I wear cut off trousers but only uncomfortable sandals.

Budget is tight too so any suggestions will be gratefully received.

my GOD there are some HORRORS on here

Fimbo · 29/03/2011 15:03

Well find a shoe that looks ok and fits well for walking in that actually looks fashionable! It doesn't actually exist, a bit like the school run dress and the essential winter stylish mac.

Yes there are some horrors out there but its the best of a bad bunch. Looking glam and walking for miles don't marry up. Short walking distances or going in cars you can look fab.

MikeRotch · 29/03/2011 15:07

i think id wear trousers if i had to walk three miles every day
or wear trainers then change
not wear htese horrednous granny shoes

MikeRotch · 29/03/2011 15:08

the next "Heavleny " range has these bit blingy but hey

Have you ever tried to change shoes in the pissing rain?

Those next things are just as bad as some of the ones on here, my mother would think they are fab and she is 78. The right type of shoe does not exist.

Fimbo · 29/03/2011 15:11

I do like the wedge heels but they are not suitable for a 2 mile hike.

Fimbo · 29/03/2011 15:12

Oh Jeezus. My mother does actually have those footglove things.

If \link{http://www.eccobypost.co.uk/Ecco-Ladies-SS11/Ladies-Sandals-and-Performance/Ecco-True-Olive-Oil-Leather/p-1004-1006-2364/\these} were in more fashionable colours like green patent or bright red they might do. But current colours are dreadful.

Fimbo · 29/03/2011 15:15

Shoon is one weird shop. They have a few nice styles and the rest are just urgghh.

£195 for a shoe for the school run - nah.

Actually although I have gone off them a lot, probably Flys are the most practical.

I just bought these - www.clarks.co.uk/find/product-is-20343439 . They feel comfy and I think they are kind of funky (for Clarks!)

snowgal · 29/03/2011 17:13

I got a pair of these last year; super comfy and I think they're pretty merell sandals

Fimbo · 29/03/2011 17:20

Oooooohhhhhhh snowgal, loving those! Grin

Lastyearsmodel · 29/03/2011 17:42

If you're after sandals and comfort, these are very comfy and nicer on than in the pic.

I bought them after wearing a pair of Birks down to the cork doing a similar school run last year. A podiatrist/chiropodist told me the key to walking in sandals is a back strap, otherwise you're trying to keep them on by scrunching your toes or similar, and that way lies ingrown toenails and other foot woes.
