Maxi dresses from the early 1990s, has anyone seen any?

Do you remember?

They had spaghetti straps and were straighter, ie there was no empire line or gathering around the bust.

Mine was black and I wore mine over a body.

It was a really easy look to wear, and I want another one.

Does anyone remember them and even more hopefully, has anyone seen any similar?

Hmm, I was around then but don't remember what you describe past the body .

DarrellRivers · 23/03/2011 21:12

Yes, I quite miss bodies.
All nicely tucked in Grin

My dress was from M+S I'm sure

JM, you are right, they flared out from the bottom area rather than clinging
They were easier to walk in than current

Oh God I do rememer.

DarrellRivers · 23/03/2011 21:27

Did you not like them SW?
I loved them
I wore them all summer when I started working
Only drawback was no pockets to put things in

And New Look sell bodies.

You know you're addicted to clothes shopping when you start doing it vicariously because shopping for maternity clothes is so DULL.

DarrellRivers · 23/03/2011 21:34

Lord
I can pretend I am early 20s again

This time last year I was 39 weeks
God I was desperate to get back shopping again and stop being the size of a house

I'd wear that one now DR, but anything that takes me back to the early 90s ineveitably involves brain bleach. I had massive boobs (had them reduced in 94), so prior to that I had to be really careful what I wore. I remember having knee length dresses similar, which I wore over a body, but in the daytime I think it was just jeans really. I seriously struggle to remember.

UrsulaBuffay · 23/03/2011 21:39

Body suits (to give them full title) were such a pita for going for a piss in.

DarrellRivers · 23/03/2011 21:46

Body suits plus trousers were v difficult
Less tricky with a dress

SW, I used to dread summer for the same reason. I found the dress plus the body covered my top half more than most outfits without boiling at the same time

Yeah I did embrace that look, but needed a 14/16 for the top when I was only really an 8/10, so the dresses were all baggy and made me look fat and stuff.

DarrellRivers · 23/03/2011 22:01

Same here
I was also short as well!
BFing three babies has evened me out
I always used to Hmm when I had friends wishing they had larger busts
So so difficult to dress

OP posts:
suwoo · 23/03/2011 22:06

I was a 28HH DR, so they weren't ever gonna get evened out Wink. Big boobs look shite in clothes. Especially 90's clothes. When you live in Wales.

DarrellRivers · 23/03/2011 22:12

You had a tiny frame with a definite unmatching in the cleavage department

Am glad you feel happier with your body now, it makes a difference
I am Sad in some ways that breast reduction has become a 'Low Priority procedure' ie not funded in a lot of PCTs

I still have one that I bought in Debenhams in 1994. Still fits, love it. Mine is dark blue (not navy) and I wear it with a t-shirt underneath. Get lots of compliments.

expatinscotland · 23/03/2011 22:16

The early 90s: when I wore a size 6, had perky tits and a stomach you could bounce a 10p piece off and it would hit the ceiling.

Sad

I'm short and had great legs then, so in the 90s I was showing them off at every opportunity.

Maxi dress + short = Sad

DarrellRivers · 23/03/2011 22:17

VLB Envy I wish I still had mine

I had a lovely longish denim dress that I used to wear with these gorgeous wedges.

And a tan.

And hair with no grey in it.

DarrellRivers · 23/03/2011 22:19

Expat, it was good for the hospital in the summer

These dresses didn't make you look short, not like the current range which most prints look like someone threw up over them
