Can any of you help me. A) where is my lost birkenstock and as b) i'm unlikely to find it should i replace like for like or go for a flitflop, or whatever they're called.

Please don't advise me to get a pretty shoe - i have rubbish feet that need support. No, i have beautiful feet but if the sole is too thin or the shoe too tight i get horrible pains in my feet so i need practical.

TIA

i love the fitflops - bought for the first time last year and lived in them. will get a 2nd pair this year i think!! my lovely, pretty monsoon/accessorize ones are a thing of the past (unless for sandy beach) as i need support for my ancient back too!

i've also picked up birkenstocks for the first time - not worn them out yet but certainly feel very very comfy when trying them on!!!

so all in all i have both - not sure how much help that is to you Smile

Duna · 23/03/2011 15:29

Ooh, what are fitflops? Have never been able to wear Birkenstocks as the foot shape never fits my feet Confused

AgentProvocateur · 23/03/2011 16:37

A) At the very back of your wardrobe, under your car seat or in the luggage that you took on holiday last summer.

B) Go for Birkies - they're so much nicer looking than FitFlops, and half the price too. I bought some black patent ones on Amazon yesterday for £20. You could buy a sober pair for work and a fun pair for the beach.

HTH

The season for the reemergence of flip flops is at least two months away, so stop worrying, your birkie will turn up before then...

OhCobblers · 23/03/2011 19:45

Duna these will be your friend ALL summer!! Grin.

i loved them but i know some have had problems with the toeposts being uncomfortable.

maryjane71 · 23/03/2011 21:17

I love my fitflops! They are the comfiest things ever, but I agree not the most attractive choice of footwear. I have them in black but saw some nicer brown suedey ones on holiday last year so might treat myself. I also recommend their boots for winter, only put mine away yesterday. Best of all they tone your legs and bum Grin

PeterAndreForPM · 23/03/2011 21:19

not until there is no R 's in the month is it flip flop season

don't be such a chav Smile

Beasknees · 23/03/2011 21:33

Ahh come on you spoilsports has it not been gorgeous for the last 3 days. At least i wasn't sporting a bikini in the park unlike some people.

Have checked all wardrobes and under chest of drawers where things lurk and found my son's first shoes, but no good for me. Don't think they're in the car seat and have used my luggage since the last time i was wearing them and discovered a book i'd been looking for but no shoe.

Thanks OhCobbers, I'm excited but I can't open the link! Confused

Beasknees, have you checked the back the understairs cupboard if you have one? Mine used to hold of sorts of untold wonders Grin

polyhymnia · 23/03/2011 23:31

Have the brown suede-y ones with studs - Rebel - got them in the end of season sale last year. Retailers like Cloggs and Running Bare - or the Fitflop site itself - have a better selection than JL.

DameDownUnder · 24/03/2011 04:05

Fit flops are ACE.

So comfy and altogether fabulous. Although even after wearing them all summer my arse is still rather less toned than the lady in the ads.

RoyalBlingThing · 24/03/2011 04:54

Duna : Birkies mould to your foot (it takes about 2 days of wearing then) so they start off uncomfortable and then magically feel lovely.

I live in a permenant flip flop season and only wear (daytime) fit flops (have pewter sequinned, silver sequinned and black) or birkies (silver/brown/black and green)

I can't wear completely flat flip flops they make my back ache

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 24/03/2011 04:58

Fit flops might be comfortable (which is a good enough reason to buy them) but they do not tone your thighs or butt.

RoyalBlingThing · 24/03/2011 05:01

I don't think they do either Libra.

Duna · 24/03/2011 11:36

Thanks RoyalBlingThing...I didn't know that, just assumed I had strange alien feet instead Grin I'll definately reconsider!

OhCobblers · 24/03/2011 14:14

Duna go onto www.johnlewis.co.uk and do a search for fitflops - a load should come up in a whole host of colours Smile

maryjane71 · 24/03/2011 20:49

I beg to differ re: toning legs and bum Smile

Though I do walk - briskly - 5 miles a day Grin and [smug bugger]

Duna · 24/03/2011 20:51

Thanks OhCobblers Smile

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 24/03/2011 21:45

Everything to do with the five miles, nothing to do with the shoes.

maryjane71 · 24/03/2011 22:08

Oh Libra I so agree Smile But having paid £45 for the fitflops and £200 for the boots I have to justify them somehow Grin
They are damn comfy though

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 25/03/2011 02:57

I think being damn comfy is a good enough reason.

Beasknees · 30/03/2011 17:52

Well as you would have it - i ordered a very lovely pair of silver birkies which duly arrived this morning. And hours later the rain came pouring down and my lost sandal reemerged. Sorry for causing a downturn in the weather but at least this summer i will be fine.

As a woman with far too many shoes and a wardrobe full of tatty old Monsoon flip flops I have now decided to do it differently. Now I have a good high quality (and blinking expensive) pair if fit flops for treking around during the day and then 3 or 4 pairs of sexy barefoot sandals for looking glam on the beach and around the pool. Not only that, but because you can wear them WITH your sandals I now only have to take one comfee pair of sandals and the barefoot sandals change to match my dress... I bought my first 3 pairs and now I even make my own. they're not as good as the ones I bought, but now I can do any colour I want Smile

cerealqueen · 06/04/2011 21:09

Fitflops are very comfy but don't buy a pair with a white or pale coloured footbed as you will be cleaning them constantly and they will never look that clean.
