Jack Wills Gilet...any good? Worth £98.00?

So, I have been wanting to invest in a good down-filled gilet for a while.

Don't like The North Face ones - everyone seems to have them round my way
Joules - nothing special as far as I can see
Crew Clothing..mmm, almost bought one today but wasn't totally convinced

Down to Jack Wills - The plain one with hood (notthe furry hood)

Anyone have one and happy with it?
Are they true to size? I'm usually a 8/10 (mostly 10).

Thinking about getting a navy one online.

What about Fat Face? I have one from there and it is so warm, I love it. Where I live, all the schoolkids wear Jack Wills, so it's not for me!

sleepymare · 20/03/2011 07:07

Depends, are you 16? Sorry, all the school kids round here wear them! Yeah agree with dottyaboutstripes, try Fatface. Also think the Next Directory have a couple in although not sure if they are down filled.

CouldNeverHave3 · 20/03/2011 07:50

Mmm, that's interesting. I teach and have only seen one pupil with one(but two members of staff!) - they all wear superdry & barbour at achool. But I have seen a few Uni students with them

Wouldn't wear with the hood, so like child-like?

Thanks

No one over 18 would wear Jack wills around here.
It is teen gear. No question

In fact ds is 17 and won't wear it as he hates the sheep like connotations.

CouldNeverHave3 · 20/03/2011 08:13

Goodness - thanks for the warning Grin.

It definatley isn't that common here with high school kids..yet!

There isn't a down filled gilet in the world that's worth a hundred quid. Except perhaps a special hi tech one designed for artic explorers.

Spen 50 quid on one from Milletts and give the other 50 to the charity of your choice.

INeedALieIn · 20/03/2011 08:18

jack Wills - DON'T DO IT

:)

CouldNeverHave3 · 20/03/2011 08:22

Don't worry - it's crossed off my list!! Grin

I'm going to check out Fat Face or might go back to Crew Clothing, although they are £95...Mmmm

Jack Wills seems to be for under 18s only - God knows where they get the money for them from

CouldNeverHave3 · 20/03/2011 09:25

Is it a rich kid brand?

We have a Jack Wills outlet near us (Bicester) so you can pick up the clothes a lot cheaper. They also have an online outlet. Their stuff looks very similar from one year to the next so it doesn't matter if it is last years..

basana · 20/03/2011 14:40

It's a bit silly not to wear something you really like because it is a particular brand. I can see don't buy a hoodie, track pants with JW emblazoned all over them - fair enough to leave them to the youngsters - but that one is just a gilet like any other (and decent quality), I know a few people with them and they look fine.

hocuspontas · 20/03/2011 15:09

MillsandDoom - dd2 and her friends club together and buy each other JW stuff for their birthdays. Instead of getting 10 gifts of chocolate and toiletries they get one or two decent items of clothing. I'm totally in favour.

LargeGlassOfRedPlease · 20/03/2011 15:44

Thanks basana - totaly agree with you now that I've pondered! I can see why the 'JW' in your face stuff I clearly for sch/Uni kids, but I'm actualy thinking the gilet with discrete pink logo is fine Smile

AnnVeronica · 20/03/2011 16:59

I have loads of JW in my wardrobe. I'm 32 :)

I don't buy it for the label, in fact I avoid anything with the logo emblazened across it.

I buy it because I find it good quality, it washes well and it works well with my particular body shape (long arms and long torso).

If you like the JW gilet, buy it. JW has good resale value on eBay, if you ever get bored of it.

Yvettelou · 08/11/2011 22:26

I have 3 fat face Gilets all down filled & they are excellent, really cosy & look great too. They cost about £65 I think.
And yeah Jack Wills is really for the kids, my 13 year old wears that, Abercrombie, hollister & superdry, so do all her mates!

Forrestgump · 09/11/2011 11:35

the georgina gilet from fat face is lovely. its just always out of stock!

shesparkles · 09/11/2011 11:38

Dunno if it's worth £98, but could be worth 30% less with this code I found for Jack Wills!
JWFF Grin

Forrestgump · 09/11/2011 13:12

code doesnt work shesparkles.

HipHopOpotomus · 09/11/2011 13:21

check out UNIQLO - they have some very nice ultra light ones in lots of colours

JayneeHelenn · 31/12/2011 01:25

I'm only 13 at the moment and everyone at my secondary school has these. however i've also seen a lot of older people wearing them. more mums and even grandparents.! apparently they're really good, nice and warm.! the ones with the fur trim on the hood are better, especially for winter. they're definenatly worth the money. www.jackwills.com/en-gb/product/birchfield-gilet-010937034/tc/034e067d1bef6578f2c79a1dce832523/sp/gilet .You can get them a lot cheaper especially on ebay though.! Hope this helps.!(:

CointreauHoHoHoVersial · 31/12/2011 01:33

I wouldn't pay £100 for a JW gilet - about half of that is paying for the brand.

I have been lusting after the Fatface Georgina gilet, but it is still on the pricy side at £68. But it is gorgeous - really heavy and cosy.

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 31/12/2011 10:05

My teens have just bought me the blue Fatface gilet for my birthday next week :D I wear them at work all the time so wanted a really warm one and it is really thick and snuggly. DD2 works there as a saturday job and the discount is fabulous Grin

fatface is defo JW for grownups:) (mind you DD2 is 17 and head to toe in FF, she loves the clothes she is selling!)
