Jack Wills Gilet...any good? Worth £98.00?

So, I have been wanting to invest in a good down-filled gilet for a while.

Don't like The North Face ones - everyone seems to have them round my way
Joules - nothing special as far as I can see
Crew Clothing..mmm, almost bought one today but wasn't totally convinced

Down to Jack Wills - The plain one with hood (notthe furry hood)

Anyone have one and happy with it?
Are they true to size? I'm usually a 8/10 (mostly 10).

Thinking about getting a navy one online.

Sounds ridiculous to me not to wear something because this crowd wear it or that crowd wear it. You're just as much a sheep as anyone else.
I know plenty of people with JW gilets. They aren't pink and blue striped with a huge JW on the back, so where's the problem? It's just a nice quality gilet.
This is an old thread so presumably OP has solved her gilet problem anyway.

Mrsrobertduvall · 31/12/2011 12:12

I have the Fat Face one, dd has the JW one.

ThePhantomPlopper · 31/12/2011 13:01

I've got the Fat Face one too, tis very lovely and only has a teeny logo on the side somewhere, so small I can't even remember where I saw it!

Dozeyland · 31/12/2011 20:49

Vote for fatface, i love it, thin kits duck feathers, and i paid 68.00.

I know this thread is from a while back but I just had to add my views . I am 34 I have a 14 yr old daughter who saved up for her jack wills gilet , I loved it , great quality , looks lovely and is very warm , I kept borrowing it!
I had a recent major op and as a surprise my kids and partner bought me a jack wills gilet when I was in hospital , it was my daughters idea .
Just because it's a brand that a lot of teens are wearing doesn't mean adults can't wear them , it's not like you're wearing something that is just for their age .... I could name many items that would horrify my daughter if I stepped out in them , but not a basic navy hooded jack wills gilet, she likes it that I wear things like that. Many Adults and teens alike down here wear jack wills gilets, the kids have no problem with it . They're such lovely gilets , so what's the problem with that ?!!

middle class chav uniform Grin

He he I am now a Chav!! Love it !

perceptionreality · 06/04/2012 16:12

I like them but agree they seem to be worn only by people of 18 or under so I didn't get one for fear of looking out of place.

helloitsme · 06/04/2012 16:17

i know nothing about jack wills, but i do know that this gilet is now on sale at £69 :)

It is daftly expensive, but JW stuff really lasts, and washed very well. DD has got some stuff from there (most of it from Bicester tbh) which is about 4 years old and it still looks new. So I don't really mind spending the money on it as I know it will last for ages.

I personally have a couple of pairs of jeans from there and they are also my favourites.

dexter73 · 06/04/2012 17:01

Oh dear!

Sparklingbunnyears · 06/04/2012 17:07

DS1 (12) says JW is chavtastic. Grin What I don't get is why the hoodies have JW in huge letters on the front. like a football manager. Would only really work if they were your initials. Confused

I love Fat Face.

Bellahella · 06/04/2012 18:25

Different areas of the country have different perceptions of JW. My daughter 14 only has her gilet from there, she won't wear anything which is blazened in logos. Some of her friends OD on it big time . My daughter prefers hollister especially sale stuff in there .
JW is hardly chavvy though , some people dont know how to use the word Chav ! I hardly look like a Chav in my gilet !

Sparklingbunnyears · 06/04/2012 18:36

I only have what DS says to go on, he just said the JW brand was chavtastic. I wouldn't know a JW gilet if I saw one (unless it had the big white JW on it). Grin

AmberNectarine · 06/04/2012 19:36

It's all a bit wank really isn't it? Especially the pants that teens ostentatiously show off over their jeans waistband. Most teenagers look like they've just stepped straight out of the JW/Hollister/Abercrombie catalogue, which I think is a shame as it suppresses individuality.

Sparklingbunnyears · 06/04/2012 19:39

I am so glad DS hasn't bought a pair of those droopy crotch, dirty nappy coloured trousers with cuffs round the ankles. They look awful but he must be the only boy round here without a pair. Grin

southeastastra · 06/04/2012 20:26

chav to me means wearing clothes blazoned with logos a la jack willis, nike and my own special favourite spotted in droves today: barbour Grin that's my idea of chav and i'm sticking with it

Sparklingbunnyears · 06/04/2012 21:23

It's kind of wearing labels for the sake of it to me. Why do we need to know who made the clothes unless you want to be a walking advert?

southeastastra · 06/04/2012 21:30

so we know it cost them ££££££ Grin

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 06/04/2012 21:35

I have a down filled Gilet from Lands End, its fab, keeps me nice and toasty on dog walks on days when a coat isnt needed or layered over a fleecy top.

No to JW.

Sparklingbunnyears · 06/04/2012 21:50

Oh yes, of course south. Grin

There was a dressdown day at the High school the other day. It was like a 'Who owns the most stupidly expensive hoodie' day. Grin Oh and trainers too obviously.

McFluffster · 06/04/2012 21:54

I haven't seen the gilet and I'm not really a fan so my opinion counts for nothing but JW is akin to Hollister etc here too. I'm 26 and too old to wear it, apparently. [Thanks for that emoticon] Strictly the preserve of the teenies.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 06/04/2012 22:48

I think this JW crud is the same as when we were teens. I remember spendng an obscene amount of money on Nike Air Jordans (how chav is that!)
