I think I am having a mid-life crisis. Can I get away with a Jack Wills sweatshirt at, ahem.... 37?

I do actually need a nice, cosy hooded sweatshirt. Don't want Superdry (we have a shop in our town and I am a snob Blush), don't really fancy Abercrombie as I have accumulated lots of it over the years.

What I really want is a Jack Wills hoodie. (as a birthday present)

Would I be a laughing stock at 37?

I would wouldn't I?

I am not going to comment as I am currently wearing Vans chequerboard trainers and a top from h & m.

At 34.

In all honesty I think you are too old. My SIL insists on wearing them and thinks she is stylish, but actually at 30 she just looks like an overgrown teenager.

Sorry :(

What are your other options? And is it just for wearing indoors - ie. no-one is going to see you?

sharbie · 12/03/2011 22:05

oh dear i wear my sons hoodies that he has grown out of.i have a skirt on today from h&M.i am 44.

TaudrieTattoo · 12/03/2011 22:06

My ds1 has been overheard calling JW "Twat Wills".

There are, ahem, connotations.

Get a nice Boden one instead. No connotations there, oh no.

Meglet · 12/03/2011 22:08

I think I'm too young for Boden. It looks too grown up for me Confused. I don't want to get old!

It would be for wearing out of the house, pottering about with the kids at the park, wandering to town etc.

I always wear H&M too.

Don't they tend to be worn by the under 20s? In fact make that under 16s?

At 37 shouldn't you be shopping in BonMarche? Wink

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 12/03/2011 22:12

Oh bloody hell don't say you are too old for Boden. I'm 33 and I wear Boden! Grin

uggmum · 12/03/2011 22:13

I have one and I wear it with pride. I am 39.
Its really warm and a nice fit

slinkyboo · 13/03/2011 07:23

Joules! Masses of gorgeous sweatshirts, many are more, um...stylish if that can be said about a sweatshirt!

seeker · 13/03/2011 07:31

Joules
Boden
FatFace
Uniclo (they have fab fab sweatshirts -try the men's ones as well as the women's)

Honestly not Jack Wills. You have to be 16 and happy to be ripped off for the sake of fitting in.

cyrilsneer · 13/03/2011 07:53

I would personally leave Jack Wills, Hollister, Abercrombie and Superdry to the kids, to be honest.

What about All Saints? They have some nice cover ups with a bit of an edge and it's a bit more cool and understated? Lovely soft fabrics too..

Or, if your looking for something more mainstream - Fat Face or White Stuff?

Yes, I agree with those who said Joules. It's not my thing, but it's like a grown-up Jack Wills.

Meglet · 13/03/2011 09:31

Ok, I will take a look at the Joules stuff.

No, don't go there.

Uniqlo a great suggestion.

MrsCampbellBlack · 13/03/2011 10:06

Hooded top fine for house or garden but not for walking round town!

Skimummy · 13/03/2011 10:37

Isn't Aubin and Wills the older version of Jack Wills? They have some sweatshirts...

FellatioNelson · 13/03/2011 10:53

But honestly, if there is nothing different or special about a Jack Wills hoodie other than that it has Jack Wills emblazoned across it, it's a bit of a knobbish thing to do past the age of 20. Even below the age of 20, come to that.

TrillianAstra · 13/03/2011 10:55

I don't think it matters what brand your hoodie is, you are wearing a hoodie, it's not exactly stylish is it? The point of hoodies is to be cosy.

planestrainsautomobiles · 13/03/2011 11:33

How about Sweaty Betty - they have quite a few sweatshirts with nice detailing

without a hood

with a hood and nice detail on back

dexter73 · 13/03/2011 12:11

I certainly wouldn't wear one (I'm 38) as my dd(14) and all her mates wear them so I would look like I was trying to be a teenager! Crew have some, so do Fat Face. Or get a plain one.

BelligerentGhoul · 13/03/2011 12:13

Noooo - JW is shite, even for teenagers!

How about a grey hooded cashmere jumper? Or I agree that Whistles could be worth a look.

Gottakeepchanging · 13/03/2011 12:14

Joules is like Jack wills for old people.

Jack wills have another brand auben and wills. It's a bit grungy though. Odd colours and shapeless garments. I guess it is aimed at 20 year olds.

Jack will does wash and wear well- probably as ot already looks worn out when you buy it. Compared to other teen brands it actually works out good value per wear of bought in sale.
