I think I am having a mid-life crisis. Can I get away with a Jack Wills sweatshirt at, ahem.... 37?

I do actually need a nice, cosy hooded sweatshirt. Don't want Superdry (we have a shop in our town and I am a snob Blush), don't really fancy Abercrombie as I have accumulated lots of it over the years.

What I really want is a Jack Wills hoodie. (as a birthday present)

Would I be a laughing stock at 37?

I would wouldn't I?

This is nice Expensive though.

pointydog · 13/03/2011 12:20

It's such a preppy status-loaded teenage brand that it could never be a good idea.

Evizza · 13/03/2011 12:24

No you are not too old. I am early 30's and love wearing my hoodie jumpers when not doing anything fancy and for wearing to and from the gym.

I hate it when people think just because you are the wrong side of 30 you should be dressing in clothes from shops like Bon Marche Hmm

Yes, you can look daft in certain clothes at a certain age, but you can also add 10 years to how you look by dressing too maturely when you still young.

5DollarShake · 13/03/2011 12:52

Evizza - it's not the hoodie that's the problem per se, it's the fact that the OP wants to get a JW one. :)

5DollarShake · 13/03/2011 12:54

P.S. I don't think anyone in S&B thinks everyone over 30 should be shopping in Bon Marche....?! Confused Grin

NorbertDentressangle · 13/03/2011 13:02

Evizza -just in case you think I was serious about the earlier BonMarche comment, I wasn't!

I'm the wrong side of 40, let alone 30, and you wouldn't catch me in the likes of BonMarche, M&Co, Country Casuals and all those other old lady shops

polyhymnia · 13/03/2011 13:03

agree with 5Dollar - don't think it's the fact it's a hoody that's the problem at all, or that anyone thinks that style's too young. It's the fact that it has Jack Wills emblazoned on it - a brand which even those in their 20s like my son regard with some derision. It's definitely for teens. Wearing it looks not just too young but certainly very uncool.

I'd go sport luxe, like some of the lovely examples posted here. They are not Bon Marché like!

Evizza · 13/03/2011 17:01

Didn't see the earlier comment about Bon Marche so it wasn't a dig lol !!

I didn't mean to come over all stroppy Blush might be some denial of my own age sneaking up on me there Grin

I think each to their own when it comes to clothes...If you like it, then wear it OP !!

I own a couple of Pauls Boutique hoodies and I love em Grin

I wouldn't at 23. It's for 13-16 year olds.

threadsoffeeling · 13/03/2011 18:15

I'm 38 and would think nothing of wearing one if i could afford one. but even if could, i might not, as i think they are overpriced.
but seriously? why wouldnt you wear one at 37, unless you wear planning on wearing it with granny clothes and looked 79

What about fat face or gap? I'm 27 and think Jack Wills is for kids Sad sorry!!

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 13/03/2011 18:40

I live in hoodies, love 'em, however my newest one is from Brora and the one before that was Hush. Jack wills is not an option. Fat face had a nice one in this season without being obviously fat face.

Pagwatch · 13/03/2011 18:40

No.
Jack wills is gor 14 year olds who are desperate to fit in.

MrsCampbellBlack · 13/03/2011 19:21

Whats wrong with Bon Marche - am assuming we're talking about the Paris dept store Wink

phooey · 13/03/2011 19:39

I really want a Superdry one [mutton]

If you're really keen on Jack Wills, go for Aubin and Wills definitely. They have hoodies and you won't look like mutton.

polyhymnia · 13/03/2011 23:03

Ah, the Left Bank department store would indeed be another story. I thought that was the only Bon Marché around until hearing the other mentioned on here a while back ...

verytellytubby · 14/03/2011 09:49

I wouldn't wear JW (also 37 and in complete denial).

Meglet · 14/03/2011 09:54

Ok, I think I like the Aubin & Wills stripy hoodies.

NinkyNonker · 14/03/2011 10:25

I have a hoody from here from years ago, still as good as new.

NinkyNonker · 14/03/2011 10:26

Sorry, quba sails in case link doesn't work...am on phone.

mippy · 14/03/2011 12:31

Are you buying it because you like it or nbecause it has JW on the front? Frankly, if I'm going to wear someone's name on my person it's because they have paid ME sums of money to do so, not the other way around.
