worth it? does it live up to all the hype? it's not too heavy is it?

It's very heavy. Get the light version for everyday unless your skin is bad BUT I think it's amazing. It stays put, doesn't slide, doesn't flake, doesn't feel horrible and IMO is most definitely worth it if you need a foundation that stay put for ages at a time.

cyrilsneer · 11/03/2011 19:34

I find it a bit mask-like for me but it is the number one selling high-end foundation in the world apparently so clearly there are plenty of people who think it's fab.

I use EL Double Wear Light. It's more sheer but still has excellent staying power. I am between two shades so have to buy two and mix them.

southeastastra · 11/03/2011 19:48

thanks will have a look tomorrow, think i will try the light version don't need too much coverage

Very heavy, like pancake makeup almost. I like it sometimes - the shade range is better in the classic Double Wear range than in the Double Wear Light - but much prefer lighter stuff (Diorskin Forever and Nude) for everyday wear. But if you need coverage, DW is almost like a paint. I had a bad breakout today and DW worked like magic (better than most concealers). If you have dry and flaky skin, DW can accentuate the flakiness though. All extended wear foundations that I know will.

If you can find it somewhere, Revlon Colorstay can be a good budget alternative to DW.

IslaValargeone · 11/03/2011 19:53

I tried it once, but it showed up every flaw in my face, and highlighted pores that I was previously unaware of.

Gillybobs · 11/03/2011 19:55

I mix the original DW with a bit of illuminating fluid (the barbara Daly for tesco one is ideal) 2 parts foudnation to 1 part fluid to get a nice everyday consistency and use it on its own for nights out etc. Its the only foudnation ive ever tried that def stays on all day, no matter what. I couldnt live without it.

DonaAna · 11/03/2011 19:56

Oh, and ask for tiny sample pots of DW. My main issue with DW is that it's slightly too orange for my skin tone and the lightest DWL is a bit too dark for me. Try it out in daylight.

southeastastra · 11/03/2011 20:00

will definitely ask for trials! have some vouchers and wanted to invest in a great foundation as i don't use it that much - any other recommendations?

OP posts:
DonaAna · 11/03/2011 20:07

Ask for a sample of Diorskin too. Forever is like DW (but finer, smoother) and Nude more like DWL. Expensive, but a little goes a long way.

southeastastra · 11/03/2011 20:14

thanks dona, the diorskin nude looks good - another question (sorry) but do you think touche eclat is worth buying too?

thornykate · 11/03/2011 20:19

I like DW light, it can be a bit heavy depending where you are going so sometimes I mix with primer.

Used to wear DW when had v bad skin & agree the range of shades is much better.

thornykate · 11/03/2011 20:21

Yes I love touche its good for shadowy areas all over the face not just eyes but only in shade 2, the light is way to pale for me.

gregssausageroll · 11/03/2011 20:24

If you are pale skinned I doubt you will get a colour match.

southeastastra · 11/03/2011 20:25

thanks, am desperate to spend my vouchers and don't know where to start at make up counters, so much choice

OP posts:
bethelbeth · 11/03/2011 21:29

I'm very pale skinned and I wear DW in shell. Everyone comments that my skin is like porcelain so I have never changed foundation.

It's amazing. Treat yourself!

DonaAna · 12/03/2011 06:50

Before you buy Touche Eclat, check out this thread. It's not for everyone. I don't get an allergic reaction but I have panda eyes and it does nothing for me - I need a proper concealer.

MrsBloomingTroll · 12/03/2011 09:29

I use DW Light and it's fab. Love Estee Lauder foundations.

sahminspain · 12/03/2011 10:50

I have DW Light in shade 2 and I am really happy with it. It gives a perfect level of cover for me and makes me feel groomed when I wear it.

Rassy · 12/03/2011 11:53

I use the normal double wear and am happy with it - just use it sparingly and it still covers flaws. No need for concealer. One of my friends thought I looked so good with it on that she bought some too!

PinkPussyCat · 12/03/2011 11:56

I don't find it heavy at all - s'pose I'm just used to it. Love it as it's the only one that stays on my face all day.

I am also very pale skinned and I use the Ecru shade.

controlpantsandgladrags · 12/03/2011 11:58

I use double wear because I have awful skin and I think it's great......I'm definitely a convert! If you haven't got a face full of imperfections though you may well find it too heavy.

LittleMissStuffit · 12/03/2011 13:36

The original Double Wear is major heavy duty foundation. And I found, that it had a very chemically smell.

Double Wear Light is a nicer feel and still has some of that coverage.

southeastastra · 12/03/2011 16:37

went for the dw light - thanks for all your advice

OP posts:
withagoat · 12/03/2011 16:44

the eyeliner is ace

Tw1nkle · 12/03/2011 19:34

I've been using it for years - and wouldn't change!
I apply it with an EL brush designed for it, so it doesn't go on too thick - and lasts for AGES!!!
