Converse with skirts / dresses

MillsAndDoom · 11/03/2011 17:40

Now we've moved house I'm walking a lot more so need to wear flats more.

I'm more of a skirt / dress wearer than jeans, so need lovers of Converse to tell me what kind of skirts I can wear with my (low) converse.

I'm thinking shirt dresses / denim skirts might be ok?

Or am I making a terrible sartorial error? And am I too old at 41 to wear Converse? Or is that more in keeping with the muttony not mumsy Mumsnet rule? Grin

I love my converse but only wear them with trousers. With a skirt is a bit too teenage for my liking.

OrangeBernard · 11/03/2011 18:23

You have to have truly fabulous legs to wear converse with a skirt as they cut you on a unflattering part of your ankle

bethelbeth · 11/03/2011 21:38

Totally agree- I'm 25 and don't generally give a toss what I look like but I would not wear cons with a skirt/dress.

Maybe the platform ones from last summer. Not flats.

MillsAndDoom · 11/03/2011 22:38

Thanks - as I thought but secretly hoped someone would come along and say it was fine so I can justify a purchase to DH.

bethelbeth - can't walk the two mile round trip in platforms without breaking my ankle

I think I may have worn converse the low ones with a denim skirt before.

cheesesarnie · 11/03/2011 23:30

i wear my converse(shoes not baseball boot type) with flowery dresses/skirts finishing above the knee.

iWILLdothis · 12/03/2011 09:00

i wear this type of shoe with skirts.....very comfy

RAlover · 12/03/2011 09:02

Do it, its fine!!
I wear converse all the time, trousers / jeans in winter....dresses / skirts in summer.
Everyone seems to do it round my way.
Oh....and I am as young as you Wink

FattyArbuckel · 12/03/2011 09:31

OK IF you are tall young skinny with great legs and skirts are above the knee

MillsAndDoom · 12/03/2011 09:39

Oooh its swaying in the other direction now - thanks Grin

Sadly Fatty I am tall, but neither young nor skinny. I do have great calves though

I wear converse shoes with long and short skirts, as well as shorts.

BikeRunSki · 12/03/2011 09:45

well I do, and I am 40.

celticlassie · 12/03/2011 14:18

I've done it - only with low ones with a denim skirt and only really to festivals / gigs and the like. But I quite like it as a 'look'. I wish I had the guts to wear hi tops with leggings as my friend does and looks great. (But she's about 12ft tall and weighs 3 stone...)

GhostInTheBackOfYourHead · 12/03/2011 14:22

I'm short and fat and nearly 40 and I am never out of my converse (shoes). Skirts, dresses, jeans, anything. Who cares if some body fascist thinks to themselves that my legs aren't right for the shoes? Fuck 'em, I say. My feet, my shoes Grin

Anyway, wearing trainers in summer is just stinky

iWILLdothis · 13/03/2011 18:51

Momentarily thinking I was on facebook there, I was looking for the "Like" button on ghostinthebackofyourhead's and bluddymofo's posts!! Grin

MillsAndDoom · 14/03/2011 18:02

ooh yes a "like" button on MN would be great as well as a "dislike" button

I like the look of converse, especially with short skirts or dresses.

However I have flat feet, and need more arch support than converse allow. Is there anything I can wear, other than birkies or dowdy ecco? Sad

Himalaya · 14/03/2011 18:28

I like Converse with opaque tights and a short flowery skirt.

You don't have have great legs to wear them, but they are not flattering on the ankles if that matters to you.

Not so keen on Converse and mid length skirt mumsy look.

talkingnonsense · 14/03/2011 18:32

I like plimsoll/ low converse type shoes with long skirts hippy style, but I am v old!
