Crocs - comfortable and practical or footwear of satan?

Bit of a boring afternoon - so thought I would seek opinion. Personally, I hate them. Ok, there may be appropriate places where plastic, moulded, sterilisable footwear is essential. An operating theatre perhaps. But on the street. I. Think. Not.

I could go on, and no doubt I will be set to rights about being rot proof and good for people in and out of the water etc. But no, my head shall not be turned. Grin

they are my gardening shoe of choice

tulpe · 10/03/2011 17:28

absolutely the latter.

The are vile, vile, and, oh, erm, vile.

Fine for toddlers on the beach but totally hideous on adults.

NoWayNoHow · 10/03/2011 17:33

Footwear of Satan.

The ONLY time I would let DS wear some is he were going to a pebbly beach on a hot day - then he could protect his feet from the stones but it wouldn't matter if he ran in the surf.

Still wouldn't buy them for that though - they'd have to be hand-me-downs!

madammecholet · 10/03/2011 17:33

Voiceofnoreason YOU ARE SO RIGHT. I HATE THEM, infact I think I hate them more than uggs, especially when worn in bright colours by women trying to look 'funky'Shock

Gah!

AintMissBeehiving · 10/03/2011 17:33

Should be an arrestable offence wearing Crocs.

voiceofnoreason · 10/03/2011 17:33

Maiidamess - i will forgive you gardening Wink but in my book tulpe is on the nail. But even toddlers on the beach i would think twice or even 3 times about. Have patched up several pairs of delicate feet shredded by the rubbing on the underside of the toes.

Oh and what about all the blurry badges people stick on them - what the fuckity fuck is all that about?

Who cares? If someone wants to wear something practical and comfy then they should be able to without being judged. Equally if you don't want to wear them well that's your choice.

donnie · 10/03/2011 17:36

they are great for children and go with most things.

Fow grown women, however, they are indeed the work of the devil and should be thrown on a big fire right now.

PersonalClown · 10/03/2011 17:38

I wear the big clumpy ones to get in the loacl rivers with the dogs!Grin No stones in my feet.

But there are soo many different style to choose from. I like some of the sandal ones.

hmmSleep · 10/03/2011 17:43

I wear them in summer, stone me. Grin

GrimmaTheNome · 10/03/2011 17:53

They're good for kids in summer, or for shoving feet into quickly when a friend calls (DD squashes the back of proper shoes). Good to have kids footwear that is totally washable and can go in the machine without damaging either the shoe or the machine.

For adults - I do use cheap fake crocs when emptying the bin or picking up after the dog. They are actually rubbish for gardening - the holes in the top means you get soil/compost in. Then if you water something you find yourself paddling in mud. Solid-topped gardening clogs much better.

GrimmaTheNome · 10/03/2011 17:55

The other place they're useful is in place of slippers if you're doing a canal/Broads type boating holiday.

jellybeans · 10/03/2011 17:58

I wear them if caravanning or going to the beach. Kids wear them in summer.

vesela · 10/03/2011 20:22

I like them and wear them around town in summer with no qualms. I think they look good.

RightUpMyRue · 10/03/2011 20:25

Footwear of Satan and frumpy, middle aged women who have stopped caring enough to look in the mirror. And toddlers.

Not a fan.

vesela · 10/03/2011 20:49

They look a lot better than flipflops - and fit flops. And the Birkenstocks that have the horrible long bit down the middle. Those are ugly shoes. Crocs are good.

sazm · 11/03/2011 10:29

I love my crocs, the kids wore theirs ALL summer long and they were fab, cost £5 each (proper croc ones)in the sale, and have def had our moneys worth, they are still like new for next summer too!
i have some too,i bought them when i was preg and couldnt get my feet into anything,

i did buy fitflops last yr and wore them loads, but keep the crocs for the beach/camping,so easy,no socks or dirty shoes lying around, just rinse them under the tap and they are good as new :)

cheesesarnie · 11/03/2011 10:43

crocs in style and beauty?bleurgh bluergh comforts one thing, vile Lego feet is another.the dc wear them in the river or on the beach but even they prefer wetsuit shoes.

AnnieLobeseder · 11/03/2011 10:48

So are all crocs the work of satan or just the classic Croc.

Because I wear nothing but Crocs; I have a wide variety of styles; boots, sandals, ballet pumps etc. But I wouldn't wear the classic ones, they are indeed ugly.

pallymama · 11/03/2011 10:56

I have croc flip flops, they were the only things I could get my chubby stumps into when I was pregnant with DD. Since then I have only worn them to paint in, but they were so comfortable, I could be tempted to buy another pair for my deflated feet this summer!

That said, I don't like the clog type ones. I just find them a bit weird unless you're wearing scrubs too. Confused

hun666 · 11/03/2011 10:59

A long day working in the fire pits of hell does terrible things to my cloven hooves, so I like nothing better than to slip on a pair of crocs. Soooooooo comfy.

ullainga · 11/03/2011 11:03

Like Annie, I also have flipflops, wedges, boots, sandals etc. They're pretty and very comfortable. Those original clogs are indeed terribly ugly, but I have no idea why anybody would even buy then with all the other cute models available.

Pagwatch · 11/03/2011 11:06

Lol at 'they go with everything'

Yes. They look equally shit regardless of what you are wearing.

They are simply too high a price to pay for comfort.

sazm · 11/03/2011 11:24

i bought the flipflop style crocs, and they are the most uncomfortable things i've ever worn!
