Can I really not wear a fascinator?

My Dad is getting married at the end of May and I have my outfit sorted, except for something to wear on my head/in my hair. I am not sure that the dress I am wearing will look ok with a hat. My DD is bridesmaid and I might end up having to walk down the isle with her as she is only 3 and quite shy, so I want to look nice! Plus there will be many many photos, so I don't want to look back and think 'why did I wear that!' I have read on here that fascinators are a bit naff, but have no idea what to wear instead!

My dress is the Rosa dress from LK bennet, but as I bought it late last year I don't think I can link to it. It's black silk with high-ish neck line and has large roses across the hem of the skirt and chest in pink and grey. Sounds awful, but works well on my frame!

I have mid-length hair, between chin and shoulder length and would like something in either black or pink.

Any advice would be really appreciated! Smile

Halftermhero - what does Grazia say to do instead? Or just plain hair with nothing in it?

HalfTermHero · 10/03/2011 14:27

Grazia urges us all to become Facin-haters. Apparently they are a malignant evil, hell bent on destroying our aesthetic.

I would not have put it quite so strongly myself, lol.

You are advised to seek a damn good blow dry instead Grin.

PMSL at Facin-haters!

Lazyem · 10/03/2011 15:18

Do you think Grazia would make an exception for this beauty? Grin

Maiidamess · 10/03/2011 16:10

Was that girl wearing a fascinator nodders? I didnt notice

Aworryingtrend · 10/03/2011 16:11

I don't think anyone's looking at the fascinator in that link Noddy...

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 10/03/2011 16:16

I think there are too many themes in that outfit to make it work together...I would have gone black for the nipple tassles myself and maybe worked the yellow theme into the throw.

But fascinators - I am in the no camp but I have big lots of hair and have never worn a hat or piece - even for my own wedding (orchids aside).

noddyholder · 10/03/2011 16:17

this is why they are wrong! Also favoured by the loose women and most women at dodgy weddings in hello and ok

bertiefrombirmingham · 10/03/2011 16:23

Kate Middleton wore one to a do last week didn't she? I remember thinking at the time that MN would disapprove.

I quite like em myself but haven't had occasion to wear one for some time, my family and friends seem to be mainly opting for cohabitation

If it's OK for Kate then surely it's OK for the OP?

Maiidamess · 10/03/2011 16:24

God I loathe Cilla Black

bruffin · 10/03/2011 16:28

A friend of mine went to a wedding wearing one, only she thought it was called a tittillator. I nearly died laughing when she asked me if it was on properly. The same wedding where her great aunt thought we were at a naturalist wedding when it was humanist. Grin

Lazyem · 10/03/2011 17:31

Grin Asinine - my Friend's grandma thought that they were called titivators!! Grin

'Grazia urges us all to become Facin-haters. Apparently they are a malignant evil, hell bent on destroying our aesthetic.'

And if Grazia told you to wear cats strapped to your feet, would you do it Hmm

I can't see anything wrong with fascinators. As long as they are not too large.

Have a look in Monsoon/Accessorise for some headbands with the fancy embellishments on, you probably be able will be able to find something to match - dress is lovely btw!

Lazyem · 10/03/2011 19:51

Thanks KST! Monsoon/accessorize will definitely be my first point of call. Fingers crossed I can match up the pink in the dress, failing that will try for something in black. I'm glad people think the dress is ok, too. I was worried that it was too black, so I'm hoping to pick out one of the colours for the accessories.
