Ultrasun or other once a day sunscreens . . .

latherrinserepeat · 05/03/2011 10:12

Does anyone have any experience of these at all? I know tis a bit early to be thinking about sunscreen but have booked a hol and am fed up of feeling like a greasy kipper on hol constantly coating myself and two vee pale DD's in regular sunscreen.

Was toying with the idea of a once a day-er but it is a bit of a leap of faith for a pale and pasty lass like myself.

Any experience or recommendations? Is a beach resort based family holiday so lots of in and out of pools and maybe sea etc.

Thanks!

Ultra sun is quite good - there are too kinds tho a greaseless spray one and an old school lotion that is good but greasy and can stain clothes.

I think boots also do a one a day swin one for kids that is also not that greasy but for me I prefer the ultra sun spray.

I also apply a couple of times a day (eg after lunch or long swim) as am cautious. That said dh never does and has been fine with one application a day.

latherrinserepeat · 05/03/2011 10:34

Oooh thanks. And the non-greasy one (which I think I prefer the sound of) is that okay for the children too do you think?

I have used Ultrasun for years on myself and the DC's. My skin is so pale it is virtually pale blue and I have never burned when using it even on a watersports holiday in Greece last August. The once a day application is fine but if I have ( on the rare occasion) been particularly active and feel there is a risk of it having been rubbed off I reapply. The higher factors contain light reflecting particles and give a very slight glittery effect so you can tell you have covered that area. It is not greasy but you should apply it about 40 mins before sum exposure.

Thanks for the reassurance Smile I think I will give it a whirl. Any best places to buy? I know John Lewis sell it but not sure if they have the best price?

I have been using Boots own brand once a day on my DS for a couple of years. We were in the South of France last year, it was 32 degrees every day and he is very fair skinned. No burning at all (and he was in and out of the pool too). I did reapply after a morning in the pool but didn't bother with me. Neither of us changed colour :o

bishboschone · 05/03/2011 13:34

I use P20, I am blonde and fair and have struggled over the years not to burn using any othe suncream. I was told about this once as I always burnt on holiday and ended up peeling and sore with no colour . Since using it I have never once burnt and always come back from holidays with some colour. I am never going to be one to tan but at least I am not in pain from sunburn.

I use ULtrasun every day - sometimes just by itself and it is an excellent base for makeup but you can also wait a while and put your regular moisturiser on top. Check out QVC for bargains!

I rate Ultrasun v highly!!

doggydaft · 05/03/2011 15:42

Ultrasun is truly brilliant. There is a sport one that is a gel rather than a cream but it only comes in F20 whereas the creams go up to F50 Smile

rookiemater · 05/03/2011 15:48

I use P20 and it is brilliant, I only wish they did it in higher factors but I sometimes top up with regular sun screen on top if its really sunny.

The best thing about it is it isn't greasy and slimy and you don't feel like you are wearing sun screen which is great for DS as he hates putting on normal sun screen.

wellwisher · 13/03/2011 10:17

I use Ultrasun's face SPF30 lotion on face, chest and hands and wouldn't be without it. Don't find it greasy at all.

gregssausageroll · 13/03/2011 10:38

When I lived in Australia I had friends from the UK send over the factor 50 from Ultrasun as even Oz didn't have anything similar. I swear by the stuff even in the hottest summer in Perth.

Have a look on QVC as they quite often do better deals than ultrasun.

CointreauVersial · 13/03/2011 23:31

It's fab stuff, just put it on and forget about it. I've never burned with it. Great for DCs who are in and out of swimming pools too.

Studentnurse1 · 14/03/2011 00:14

Gregs, the maximum you will find in Oz is factor 30. anything above 30 is difficult to prove, and therefore not allowed. it stops people getting complacent and thinking they are being more safe than they actually are.

Another vote for Ultrasun ! Used during August in Greece last year. Have almost opaque skin and suffer terribly from prickley heat.

But it was the miracle cure. I didn't burn once, only had a little prickley heat (that was because I didn't apply properly).

shazmeds · 22/05/2018 21:03

Will I still get a tan with using facto 50 ultra sun

FishFingerInjury · 22/05/2018 22:48

I really like ultrasun family for all of us (4DC). I did also try the sports gel on holiday (another Greek one!) last year and it was good but so, so, so painful when H and I got it in our eyes while out sailing so I’m sticking with the family range from now on.

Superdrug sometimes have it on offer. Or amazon is where I usually go.

NotAPenguin · 22/05/2018 23:33

Another very pale ultrasun fan here. 15% off at lookfantastic at the moment.

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 23/05/2018 06:42

I usually wait until M&S have a 20% off beauty/everything and buy my ultrasun then. Or Superdrug sometimes has a 3 for 2 offer on suncare.

I love ultrasun: have never burnt with it on, despite being extremely pale, and it doesn’t turn my clothes yellow either.

Housewife2010 · 23/05/2018 07:02

Ultrasun SPF 30 Sensitive Anti- ageing for Face is excellent. I use it all year round. There is no scent or tacky feel and it is perfect.

Strongbeatsskinny · 23/05/2018 08:34

Use ultrasun all the time now and Ive never got sun burnt with it.

TantricTwist · 23/05/2018 10:09

On holiday I use ultrasun face and P20 for my body none of us ever burn using P20

MassDebate · 23/05/2018 11:48

I’ve found ultrasun (and P20) in TK Maxx occasionally. I rare them both but they both stain light coloured clothing terribly imo.

letiziana · 23/05/2018 11:58

Another vote for ultrasun, use it on children with sensitive skin too. Qvc often has special offers
