Too old for denim mini?

bamboostalks · 02/03/2011 10:54

Am 37, legs ok, size 12. Really feel like getting out of jeans but don't know whether am too old. Am quite busty so that is a concern. Was thinking with tights and boots or leggings. Bit clueless really! Any thoughts?

I'm 38 and I have one. I wear opaque (is that the right word?) tights and flat boots, or flat ballerina pump type shoes. I keep the top simple.

Didn't occur to me that there might be an age limit Blush Am I reaching the point where I need to start shopping in the older ladies section at M&S Shock

MoonGirl1981 · 02/03/2011 10:59

No age limit on style!

I have one which I wear with leggings.

I think I look kewl!

bamboostalks · 02/03/2011 11:00

Well sadly I did have a look at M and S and they do not even have a short denim skirt so I did wonder if I was too old! Do you think you have to be skinny? Hate to look like mutton.

Definitely not! Wear with pride!

MoonGirl1981 · 02/03/2011 11:09

I have no idea what Kew is. I see you guys mention it and nod along as though I understand......!

PlasticLentilWeaver · 02/03/2011 11:11

Don't know, but I am an 8, and quite busty as I am BF. (another reason for keeping tops simple)

Mine is a White Stuff one. Is that another MN no-no?

bamboostalks · 02/03/2011 11:12

It is a sort of mumsy, quite expensive shop. Pretty patterns though.

What do you call a mini?

Something 2-3 inches above your knee, or something that resembles a belt?

bamboostalks · 02/03/2011 11:13

That is the one I tried on today PLW! It said something on the online reviews about riding up at the front. Is that true?

OP posts:
bamboostalks · 02/03/2011 11:14

Well the White Stuff one was quite short on me. Not belt but definitely mini.

OP posts:
bamboostalks · 02/03/2011 11:17

It was £35 which I thought was quite pricey.

PlasticLentilWeaver · 02/03/2011 11:17

Just looked. They don't have mine any more. It was last Autumn. It is only a little above the knee, but I am only 5'2", so probably ends up longer on me than it might on someone of more average stature.

I haven't noticed it riding up though.

MooMooFarm · 02/03/2011 11:18

IMO it's fine with leggings or very thick tights. But not with bare legs and slingbacks Grin

PlasticLentilWeaver · 02/03/2011 11:21

The £35 one would be shorter than mine, yes. Looking at their website, the £45 would probably be a similar length, possibly a bit longer. Can't remember what it cost, don't think it was more than about £30,, so it might have been in a sale.

olive07 · 02/03/2011 11:21

just got a lovely denim mini from gap, dark denim from 1969 range, I'm 40 and its fine - opaques, flat boots a nice change from jeans...

bamboostalks · 02/03/2011 11:27

That denim one from GAP looks very short. Maybe model just has long legs.

OP posts:
PaperView · 02/03/2011 11:30

denim mini + tights = no
denim mini + leggings (so i can't see your arse) = yes

flipflopper · 02/03/2011 11:32

ive got one from fat face, similar to this one the material is really nice and soft

PlasticLentilWeaver · 02/03/2011 11:32

PaperView I don't think my arse is that saggy, but may be wrong!

bamboostalks · 02/03/2011 11:36

www.gap.eu/browse/product.do?pid=8081980070008&cid=60582

Is this your one?

Does it look too short?

OP posts:
bamboostalks · 02/03/2011 11:36

Sorry olive that is.

OP posts:
bamboostalks · 02/03/2011 11:37

I do like that ff one too, looks slightly longer as well. I am 5'7.

OP posts:
PaperView · 02/03/2011 11:43

It doesn't matter if you have a saggy arse or not....i don't want to see it! And nor do the kids at school (in case school run mini skirt mum is hereWink)

PlasticLentilWeaver · 02/03/2011 12:04

My point was that I don't think it would hang out the bottom of my skirt to be seen when I'm wearing tights, given that mine isn't much above knee length, meaning my arse would have to be down round my knees to be visible. In which case, I don't think leggings would be much of a redemption!

However, if you have seen someone on the school run whose arse either hangs that low, or her skirt is that short, your view is completely justified.
