ideas needed- help!

I am going to a do in a few weeks, we go once a year and it's our only proper night out, therefoe I feel able to justify a new outfit each time (LOL- when I was younger I only ever wore utfits once... now it's the same jeans most days!!).

Anyway, it's a deffo no jeans do, but other than that it's anything up to (and for some stranger souls including) ball gowns. It's an awards ceremony and general pi*s up for the carnival clubs of South Somerset.

OK: I like glam, hate meutrals like brown beige or grey coz they make me feel neutral and I'm not, I'm a drunk, loud so and so when given the chance. I'm tallish, curvy but not overweight... just lost 2 stones so want to show off a bit if poss.

Like red, turquiose.. plae skin, hair can change to suit clothes...

I'm 32...

Will be dancing LOTS (seem to remember doing the cancan last year waving my skirt madly with an eighteen year old hanging off of me... Dh was trying to escape being seduced by 18 yr old's Mum at the time...!!!!)

ideas anyone? I only get one chance to go shopping (in Cardiff), thre's no clothes shop here apart from a strange litle elderly ladies boutique.

something like this?

cupcakes · 17/10/2005 14:09

no, wrong image. Try the top right square.

PeachyClairPumpkinPie · 17/10/2005 14:23

Good start- but Dh thinks needs to be more formal. I like these shapes:

dress 1

dress 2

maybe I should go for full glam... like this too dress 3

I need HELP!

I like the ghost dress, infact if I was a size 12 I would bid on it. Not sure if it would be glam enough for a night do though.

cupcakes · 17/10/2005 14:26

Love dress 1 but not 2 or 3 - the fabric doesn't look very nice.

JonesTheScream · 17/10/2005 14:28

What about somewhere like Coast (shop in same arcade asOasis, H&M etc. Queens? - also concessions in Debenhams & Howells). Went shopping with friend to Cardiff last month and they had some lovely stuff there - am going to very posh Xmas do with DH this December, so will be paying them a visit myself.

Don't know whether they've got a website though - sometimes stuff on ebay.

CountessDracula · 17/10/2005 14:28

monsoon have some nice ones

PeachyClairPumpkinPie · 17/10/2005 14:29

it's more the shape... not sure what size I am where at the mo (between a 12 and 14) so looking for shape ideas on ebay really.

cupcakes · 17/10/2005 14:31

sorry - that link was supposed to go a rather nice Calvin Klein dress in the sale section. Will try again..

PeachyClairPumpkinPie · 17/10/2005 14:33

I only ever get one wear out of anything, I'd probably be willing to go to £150 unless majorly in LOVE with something.

Found coast website

Don't know if it's any good though (the site I mean)

twinsetandpearls · 17/10/2005 14:34

Coast do lovely evening wear and suit a curvacous figure.

cupcakes · 17/10/2005 14:35

In the sale section there are catagories dresses 1 and 2 - in both there are some nice dresses (Klein + Cacharel) in your size but in the £200-£250 range.

twinsetandpearls · 17/10/2005 14:38

Debenhams sell Coast - so you may be able to get it online.

twinsetandpearls · 17/10/2005 14:38

But if you have up to £150 I would suggest a look in Monsoon.

PeachyClairPumpkinPie · 17/10/2005 14:40

There's 3 stockists in Cardiff -
and none in Somerset where everyone else will be shopping-

Wonder when dh wants to pop over to Maplins next??????

cupcakes am loving the matthew williamson dress in the sale section.

Debenhams designer range may be worth a look, Matthew Williamson range is quite good.

PeachyClairPumpkinPie · 17/10/2005 14:41

Monsoon also good, there's one of those here too and I wear quite a bit of their stuff (or rather used to, pre-kids... there's a factory shop of theirs at Clarkes Village, and my brother-in-law's siter used to work there and get us discounts.

but If I find something nice in coast i could lean heavily on DH....

cupcakes am deleting that website from my history - it could bankrupt me!

laughinglil · 17/10/2005 14:49

try karen millen. I just bought a beautiful dress out of there! always do nice bits!

cupcakes · 17/10/2005 14:53

good idea, twinset! I saw a Marc Jacobs jumper I loved but (un)luckily it was sold out!

crunchie · 17/10/2005 14:54

Peachy, IMHO I wouldn't waste £150 on a dress for one night. Try TKMAXX they do some really cheap (under £40) evening dresses - some are really fab, some are foul However save the £100 and buy designer jeans that you will wear everyday
