Long cashmere sock dilemma, please advise

I have been debating with myself about whether or not to get these (in charcoal). Brora sale ends tomorrow so it's 'last chance saloon' tonight.

I liked them when full price. Now that they are half price, I think I probably should get them. However, I am still tring to be more sensible than I used to be hence the deliberation.

What do you think? Would they work under biker boots with a mini, or are there better bargains still to be had?

£39 for socks!! either your mad or way too rich.

MrsSeanBean · 13/02/2011 19:22

OK I respect the fact that not everyone may want / be able to pay that. But please let me know if you like them (regardless of cost). I always try to be impartial when giving an opinion regardless of the cost. I wouldn't go on a thread and say 'Only £xxx - you must be mad or way too poor).

And I'm not having a go at you by the way nightshade, but whenever I post a thread, I always seem to get an ear bashing about the price of stuff!

£39 for socks?! I'd expect them to do the washing up for that price.
You wouldn't be able to see them under biker boots, would you?

MrsSeanBean · 13/02/2011 19:25

Well as styled on the site, they peep out over the top of (mid length) boots, which is the length I have.

I think the navy ones are quite ugly - but the black ones just look like black long socks and as such are quite alright.
If you like them, get them.

bigTillyMint · 13/02/2011 19:27

They look really lovely, but I don't think I could bring myself to spend £39 on a pair of socks! Also, being cashmere, souldn't they wear throuh quicker?

abdnhiker · 13/02/2011 19:27

They're lovely! And I've picked up some Brora sale stuff over the years which has lasted really well - although I'd be concerned about cashmere socks - I wear my bedsocks out each year but they don't have any nylon in them.

traceybath · 13/02/2011 19:27

Would you wear them over tights as per the picture?

I always imagine you as a Toast/Margaret Howell/Brora type woman so can see that look working well on you.

MrsSeanBean · 13/02/2011 19:28

I can't see any navy ones. I was looking at the charcoal colour.

I think they are mixed with nylon for lonegvity. The tights are anyway, and have impressive lasting power, as well as being super-soft.

I love Margaret Howell tracey, you must be v perceptive :)

OP posts:
MrsSeanBean · 13/02/2011 19:30

Yes over tights...

traceybath · 13/02/2011 19:31

Do it - I think it'll look good on you Smile

And Brora is excellent quality. I was in the Bath store yesterday stroking all the new spring stuff - such pretty colours.

MrsSeanBean · 13/02/2011 19:35

Tracey thank goodness, a fellow Brora aficionado! I haven't dared look at the spring stuff yet. Lots of bargains in the sale this year though, better than normal..?

OP posts:
MrsSeanBean · 13/02/2011 19:36

abdnhiker these are 75% cashmere & 25% nylon
:)

nightshade · 13/02/2011 19:36

ok, they are very nice but not £39 nice.

DirtyMartini · 13/02/2011 19:42

I looked at those.

Do it! My calves are not svelte enough at present. I want to live vicariously through you. Go go go.

traceybath · 13/02/2011 19:43

Yes - I think once they do the second round of reductions it gets interesting.

I am coveting the cropped cardigan for spring in petal and some lovely rose patterned knickers for you know - wandering round the house at weekends Wink

MrsSeanBean · 13/02/2011 19:48

I just (tried to) buy but Brora website went very wierd and not sure if it's worked or not... Oh dear, maybe an omen. I'd better check email to see if I have received an order confirmation.

Dirtymartini my calves are not exactly stick like... but here goes anyway ;)

It worked Phew... they are on their way. :)

OP posts:
traceybath · 13/02/2011 19:50

Yeay - now let us know if they look good Smile

MrsSeanBean · 13/02/2011 19:52

Will do! Might even post a profile pic. I've realised that my pics are very out of date.

All my interesting posts seem to be leg related!!

OP posts:
Bunbaker · 13/02/2011 19:56

They are handwash only. That's a no in my book, apart from the fact at £39 I could buy several pairs elsewhere.

MrsSeanBean · 13/02/2011 20:01

I know Bunbaker - but I always bung handwash items in the machine on handwash cycle.

PlumSykes · 13/02/2011 20:02

Ooh, lovely. Will keep you so toasty, and really good reduction.

dexter73 · 13/02/2011 20:51

I bought some last year and I wore through the heels within a matter of weeks. Won't be buying those again!
