What's wrong with Boden?

I love Boden, but either get labelled a hooray or a middle aged, middle class and boring. Is this a city dweller thing? I don't get it.

The expense of it I think, if I won the lottery I would buy most of my things from Boden

WigWamBam · 11/10/2005 14:26

For me, it's a "£30 for a child's skirt is taking the pee" thing. I love the clothes, but there's no way I'd pay the prices.

spykid · 11/10/2005 14:27

wait for the sales

WigWamBam · 11/10/2005 14:29

Even the sale prices are higher than I would be prepared to pay. Clothes are for kids to wear, not to be scared of letting the children play in them because they were so expensive.

otto · 11/10/2005 14:30

Boden clothes are nice, but expensive. Many people can't afford to, or just won't spend that kind of money on clothes that get worn for such a short length of time.

SleepySuzy · 11/10/2005 14:31

Just what is the point of spending so much on clothes?????

CarolinaFullMoon · 11/10/2005 14:31

what do your hecklers wear then suzanneb?

if you wore head-to-toe boden all the time, you would prob look like a v smug Surrey mummy and would have to get a 4x4 to match, but bits here and there (deffo from the sales) are nice.

suzanneb · 11/10/2005 14:49

I'm guessing, but mostly Gap, Monsoon and Jigsaw.

i've only just started buying from Boden but it's mainly stuff for the boys. I've bought it on the understanding that it's 'pass downable' and since I have 3 boys I hope it's going to be worth it.

Have to say the tops are nice and the fabric is lovely.

I've ordered myself a coat in the sale - £39 down from £130. Still waiting for it though!

expatinscotland · 11/10/2005 14:58

Nothing but those naff Cuban heeled wellies someone posted here . Gimme a good ol' pair of classic green Hunter's any day!

codface · 11/10/2005 14:59

its up yer arse middle clarse

OrribleOliveoil · 11/10/2005 15:01

I want to feel clothes before I buy, always disappointed at catalogues.

CarolinaFullMoon · 11/10/2005 15:03

suzanneb, the words "pot","black" and "kettle" spring to mind

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 11/10/2005 15:10

gobbledispook
was it this one? it arrived last week, it's very nice

suzanneb · 11/10/2005 15:24

Thanks CFM - I'm assuming that you mean them! What's their problem? They're nice clothes, bit pricey, but better than being dull.

OP posts:
handlemecarefully · 11/10/2005 15:25

It is very middle class and kind of inyerface card carrying badge of pride middle class - but have still bought it with reservations

suzanneb · 11/10/2005 15:27

What's wrong with being middle class? We built the Empire apparently...

You don't have to spend lots of money to get nice or interesting clothes.

handlemecarefully · 11/10/2005 15:29

Nothing at all - it's just a bit ostentatiously "I dress my daaahlings in Boden, don't you know" middle class rather than self effacingly middle class....

but as you can see I am an occasionally boden buying hypocrite

handlemecarefully · 11/10/2005 15:32

But I don't buy my own stuff from there - not that fuddy duddy!

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 11/10/2005 15:32

I have never bought for dd - too much of rip off for children's clothes
have bought a couple of things for me and dh though, because they do last

suzanneb · 11/10/2005 15:32

Sorry HMC - not trying to be a class warrior, just fed up. Feel like I'm a nicer version of the burberry chavs.

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 11/10/2005 15:33

squaring shoulders and stiffening upper lip
